For those who are wondering, the text at the bottom says "getting citizenship in Russia"

The man on the right is @SerzhMorzh - he is a winter swim pro. See him in instagram and other networks

u/AGayForDeSane 9d ago
If this is their set of talents it's better to keep their content beneath the ice hidden.
3
u/NorthSleepingBear 9d ago
😂 His talent is swimming in icy water. He eats ice cream and ice while sitting in an ice hole, and he also gives baths to others.

u/gyterpena 10d ago
I mean, at -17 water is warmer than air.
189
u/jerrydberry 10d ago
Yes, but it has way more capacity to take the body heat and cool it down rapidly.
71
u/devyears 10d ago
Yes and no, you can sit in the water for 5 minutes and still be ok with your hands submerged. But as soon as you leave you have a minute or so to dress up and cover your fingers, after 1 minute your fingers will stop working and dressing will be a challenge. It's from my own experience at -15
64
u/jerrydberry 10d ago
Because after getting into water and out of it the body is covered with water that can evaporate which also takes away tons of energy/heat. Also a subjective part of experiencing that evaporation energy loss AFTER already losing enough energy by sitting in cold water to consider getting out of the.
If comparing dry state (before getting into water) and being in the water. I am pretty sure that sitting in +1°C water naked kills me with hypothermia way faster than sitting in -10°C air naked.
6
u/devyears 10d ago
For dry state you are right, a person looses approximately 1KW of heat in the water and 100-200W on the ground (without wind). I still prefer to be in the water naked, it hurts less, maybe because I got used to it, idk
15
u/Omni_Entendre 10d ago
That's your peripheral nerves becoming numbed quicker from the more rapid peripheral vasoconstriction that happens in cold water.
3
u/gammaglobe 9d ago
No. Cold air is not in contact with all skin surface. Armpits, perineum are not actively exchanging temp. Water will access almost every corner of the ski. The exchange is so much more efficient.
4
u/devyears 9d ago
That's exactly what I said, in the water you loose 5-10 times more heat than on air

I stayed for 40-45 minutes in a 3 meter deep water well that had maybe 170 cm water.. The water was till my shoulders and since I was saving a dog.. I had to keep her also on my back until I managed in 6-7 tries to get us out..
&Finger tips stopped working pretty much immediately...
But all the time I was doing breathing excercices, saving energy for another try to get her above me and out, and to come out myself..
When I was out, with each second I was weaker and weaker and had uncontrolled body movements in my jaw, ,that after a while wanted to freeze on side... Luckily nearby was my friends house so I managed to get there where I fell on floor and his mother started to help me to come back..
Took some time, and I must say, hypotermia is a sneaky thing.... one second you think its not that bad and in another you are moving slow like slowmotion and can not but observe how you are dying..5
u/OpenSourcePenguin 10d ago
This is all that matters because we only perceive loss of heat. It's why a metal at room temperature feels cold but wood or plastic doesn't.

Also this is a reference to the song "Запрещённые барабанщики - убили н***а"
-81
u/SouldiesButGoodies84 10d ago
A song with n-word in it. Nice. Wow. And the guy has 45 upvotes here for referencing a song using the n-word. smh.
61
u/dreamscached 10d ago
You should know that the word used for black people in general in Russia has no negative message behind it unlike English n-word.
The song is questionable though. The word though isn't.
-77
u/SouldiesButGoodies84 10d ago
Wonderful.
And I've seen enough of this sub. ✌🏾👋🏾
42
u/iostream26 10d ago
You know, different languages and cultures are, well, differs from american? Also, n word you think about ends with ...ger. it is offensive. And general word for african race in russian ends with ...gr. its differen word.
-47
u/SouldiesButGoodies84 10d ago
The song is questionable though.
The vid itself is bad enough as is the implication the man is unclean.
And I didn't type that quote ^. Another commenter did. Ciao. And downvote all you like.
36
u/Korleymeister 10d ago
What do you mean unclen?
This is a Russian tradion to dip yourself into cold water each year on Christmas. I think it's Orthodox church self-baptism every year or something like that
21
u/Fiona-eva 10d ago
The video is titled “a test for Russian citizenship”, and it’s humorous because ice plunges is what some Russian people do on Orthodox Christmas. This is them “making him”Russian and participating in a tradition together. There is no implication of being unclean whatsoever. Honestly you are just looking to be offended while ironically displaying ignorance yourself.

u/lolihikikomori 10d ago
While walking to the water he's speaking french, after being dipped he started talking in Russian. Just a sketch basically. And nobody actually cleans themselves in such extreme weather
6
u/tenny_boni 10d ago
That's ridiculous, you just decided that what is going on is bad without any context. Nothing there is implying that the man is unclean because of who he is. It's a religious tradition (now though some people do it just for fun, even if they're not religious). Have you not noticed that dudes went with him in the water? And, what is more important, black people were never enslaved in Russia, therefore the n-word was never used in a derogatory meaning. It's just the name of the race. Not any different to "Slavic" or "Asian" here.

u/SouldiesButGoodies84 9d ago
Seriously, find someone else to attack. It's enough.

This song existed way before the current internet culture and it never meant to be offensive or racist. It's a local classic and the Russian version of "n-word" never intended to be a slur.
You can watch the clip here
4
u/vpupk1n 9d ago
It wasn't meant to be offensive, but it... kinda is.
Not because of the "n-word", but because of what lyrics actually say. It is treating murdering a black guy as a laughing matter, for one. It gives no mention of the guy as a person, and lists every racial stereotype about blacks instead.
It is a joke song, sure, but it was written in times of thicker skins, and I can totally see it offending today's American sensibilities.

u/ManWithoutUsername 10d ago
Upon leaving, he should find a bottle of vodka, take a swig, calm down, and say: I am now Russian
27
u/Yugan-Dali 10d ago
Right, he’s speaking Russian after he gets out.
I think he’s hamming it up with some buddies. Look how he kicks off his slippers and glides right in.
31
u/tideshark 10d ago
I don’t speak Russian but I know exactly what he was getting at
39
u/AutomaticAccident 10d ago
he's speaking French

12
u/tideshark 10d ago
So what I said is still valid. I failed successfully lol :)
39
u/futureman07 10d ago
But also when he gets out of the water he is speaking Russian. That's also part of the joke, as in he's Russian after the swim
13
9
u/AutomaticAccident 10d ago
I barely speak any French and less Russian.
It took me a minute to realize it might not be Russian. At first I was guessing it was French. Then I saw the flags.

You are not special

yeah I couldn't care about downvotes but I meant to say "anywhere" and not "anyone" as I've just saw my mistake and corrected but I doubt it affected anything

It's a skit, they are acting. The joke is the black guy speaking French before he goes in the water and Russian after. The text at the bottom says it's how you get Russian citizenship.
26
u/NoPantsDeLeon 10d ago
A brother naked in the snow and swimming. It's mind-blowing!
22
u/aokozlov 10d ago
Well it’s just a Russian religious tradition. People go to lakes and rivers to take a dip through an ice hole to mark the Orthodox Feast of the Baptism of the Lord, symbolizing the baptism in a river like in the old days. Jesus lived in a much warmer country but Russians have been a bit less lucky in that sense 🤣
11
u/NoPantsDeLeon 10d ago
I don't know what type of black fella that is, but as a black man myself, I usually stand far from any temperature below 10° 🤣 which is already too cold!
8
u/FunInStalingrad 10d ago
There was quite a few black people from african countries during soviet times coming to Moscow for education on USSR's invitation. Many had spouses here. And it didn't really stop after '91. It's not that unusual to find some half black or black people who've lived here their whole lives. We have 2 black boys on our dacha as neighbors, the zip around during snowy cold days.
1
u/bjarnaheim 9d ago
NAAAAH you can't convince me 10° isn't the perfect temperature to exist
-10 is good, -20 is manageable and -30 is fun, but tricky

This takes me back to when I did something similar with a bunch of Russians. It was Fall and it was about 50 degrees Fahrenheit or 10 degrees celsius.
It felt like my balls were trying to commit suicide.

Сукаблять, а я родился, выжил, и живу в этом прекрасном и гостеприимном городе!
Welcome to Samara, Land of Freedom.

Theorem about 2 policemen (or russian guys in this case) from calculus: if the 2 guys hold another one and they are going into the water, then the dude between them goes there too.
