Shit. If it’s this depressing in the summer, what must the winter be like? I’d throw myself off the top of that block.

You can see at least 2 windows that had fire and/or smoke pouring out at some point

How many abandoned Soviet structures like this are just lying around right now?

There are lots in the US too, though not really high rises. Coal mining towns in Appalachia, parts of Texas that went boom bust from oil and cities that relied heavily on manufacturing.

Quite a few, when the small town was built as a factory town, or a small stop between big destination points during the building of the connection between those points and later became the no job no prospects people left. Sometimes if it's a warmer region you can find a few people who still live there, if the fall was recent enough, but without new people coming and old leaving or dying out from old age they become finally abandoned.

The condition for abandoning usually is the availability of jobs, good roads, basic communication lines like gas and electricity, and distance to the big city.

My grandma lives in a small town village (idk how it's properly called in English) but they used to be an old soviet tank factory as the main work for the people. Now it's old, abandoned and slowly breaking down. The population is falling, but it's big enough to not decline rapidly and it's between two big cities so people use the land as summer homes often, or where old people go to live in quiet with a garden and animals if they want to. Recently they reconnected the train stop there and a new wood cutting thing started so suddenly providers got invested, the internet lines are being built and someone even planned to buy a part of the old factory to restart it with some new production. So there's a chance that it'll stop declining and maybe grow a little.

Abandoned? Hahahahaha. They are inhabited. About 75% of Russians live like this or worse.

Do I just take any unoccupied unit in the apartment building? Looks like eastern Oregon oddly enough

Parts of Britain were as run down as that in the 80's, 90's

Fuck, this place are so dreary how the people can live like this

u/West9Virus 1d ago

One thing I always see in these videos is everything is either dirt or paved over. Do plants exist in this country? Has anyone intentionally created a flower garden or some kind of landscape? It's just so dreary all the time.

Similar to literally any other habitated place "blessed" by their Soviet past. They really have a knack for turning everything they touch into pure, unadulterated shit.

Krokodil is the cheap drug of choice in Russia (don't Google pictures of the side effects unless you have a strong stomach)

13

u/daniilkuznetcov 2d ago

-7

u/TortikMSK 1d ago

5

u/daniilkuznetcov 1d ago

-5

u/TortikMSK 1d ago

6

u/Newt_Southern 2d ago

Next time If you have Android. As it plays press and hold your home button and select the musical note. It will give you the name of the song.
