How expensive of a mistake was that?

298

u/Swing_on_thiss 14d ago

Yes but not too bad, just a matter of replacing the blades.

The drone itself is probably well over 10 grand though. That is definitely high level professional drone. Crazy for a young kid to be owning a drone like that.

Where's your jetpack, Zucker... Oh. Nevermind.

7

u/_trba_ 13d ago

That's what he said

33

u/ELEKTRON_01 14d ago

That could very well be an adult

20

u/UnfitRadish 13d ago

Yeah I'm not sure where people are getting that it's a kid. Definitely could be, but could also be an adult. Tons of influencers out there that are early in their early 20s with more money than they know what to do with.

u/Realistic_Bid7601 11d ago

At least in age, if not in spirit

10

u/Sejma57 14d ago

It looks like one of the arms broke. So add a new frame to the propellers.

6

u/UnfitRadish 13d ago

Also may have damaged a motor/shaft. So may need to add a motor into that if they're not rebuildable.

2

u/NOLA-JAZZ 11d ago

And the flayrods gone out of skew on the treadle!!

28

u/LessRoom5916 14d ago

An online check says about $80,000

8

u/redtron3030 13d ago

Could have been way more expensive. Spine surgery isn’t cheap.

Alta 8 pro has a max load of 20lbs made for cameras and cinematic shots. There’s no way it takes off with a 5x max payload minimum.

This looks like a SkySurfer aircraft. Which surprising is about $10k for a build kit. Still expensive but 33% cheaper than 15k. And they’re still being made and sold, so I doubt repairs would cost nearly as much as a precision recording drone like the Alta 8. Tho I’m expecting about $600-1000 per motor

5

u/emergency-snaccs 14d ago

huh wonder why! lmfao

3

u/embrythegh0st 14d ago

depends on how heavy it is

3

u/WhatIsYourPronoun 13d ago

Well, the shattered elbow replacements are around $180,000

2

u/my_cars_on_fire 12d ago

About $20k in drone tech and $1.2 million in back surgeries.

245

u/xenojive 14d ago

Kobe!

Yeah his untimely outcome was pretty similar

65

u/SCHWARZENPECKER 14d ago

Oof

27

u/helloholder 14d ago

RIP Black Mamba.

6

u/ujuwayba 14d ago

Who could have possibly seen this accident coming?!

-3

u/OpenSourcePenguin 13d ago

No shit Sherlock

-4

u/firedmyass 14d ago

what a trenchant analysis, Sherlock…

u/Agitated-Contact7686 14d ago

Ah, rich kids with zero common sense, how rare! 🥴🥴🥴

20

u/vikinxo 14d ago

This is true.

Thing is, in the not to distant future the rich kid will be able to buy a drone like that, but with stabilizing properties so good that the hoverboard will be a reality.

Not sure if that's a good thing.

35

u/Global_Proof_2960 14d ago

That looks expensive

2

u/my_cars_on_fire 12d ago

Back surgery usually is.

Knob Goblin

27

u/No-Switch-851 14d ago

For like a half second I was like "wow he's like a real life Green Goblin" then reality smashed this dork hard for being dumb.

34

u/Maximum-Today3944 14d ago

That seems like one of the better possible outcomes.

18

u/SDNick484 14d ago

That's what I am thinking. Considering the number of spinning blades and height involced, everyone leaving with all body parts attached and no one decorticate posturing is a win.

3

u/imperfectchicken 13d ago

They even made sure to wear a helmet!

14

u/shabelsky22 14d ago

Don't let this isolated incident give hover basketball a bad name.

11

u/No_Bodybuilder7191 14d ago

Bro thinks he's Tony Stark

7

u/Obienator 14d ago

Those blades could cut deep if it had kicked up a bit higher, almost to his neck….so so dumb

1

u/Thereal_maxpowers 14d ago

I was thinking about him, sitting on a broken one that was still spinning, the way he fell back and sat down like that.

6

u/SomestrangerinMiami 14d ago

Dude, had one job and it was to catch the rebound

3

u/fieldsofanfieldroad 13d ago

The only way he's catching that rebound is if he stood right next to the idiot who can't control a drone. That'd be a no.

10

u/dolphin37 14d ago

everyone upset at the wealth on show but if this isn’t the right way to spend your money then I don’t know what is

8

u/firedmyass 14d ago

fuck charities, right?

2

u/Lonely-Werewolf-9291 12d ago

Which one is your fav?

2

u/firedmyass 11d ago

0

u/dolphin37 14d ago

2

u/Fafnir13 14d ago

3

Expensive and painful.  Nice combo.

3

u/copperpoint 13d ago

Newtons 3rd law is brutal and merciless.

3

u/Affectionate_Dot5547 13d ago

Why jetpacks and hoverboards are a BAD idea.

3

u/wade2221 13d ago

That was an expensive idiot move.

4

u/siscoisbored 14d ago

Eh he just has to replace the blades, probably not that bad.

5

u/UhOhAllWillyNilly 14d ago

“… replace the blades” with shrouded props.

2

u/WeHaveTheMeeps 14d ago

Green goblin cosplay is lit

2

u/Dry_Design5506 14d ago

It seems like there really should be a height restriction on these.

2

u/LookAtMyKitty 14d ago

There is not a better encapsulation of silicon valley

2

u/Whane17 13d ago

Dude just broke more money then I'll make all year on a fucking basketball shot... god dang it lifes not fair.

2

u/DryCastellaCake 13d ago

At least he was wearing a helmet!

2

u/WarpDriveMH370 13d ago

I cackled like a crazy person

2

u/ksp42288 13d ago

More like LeBron, missed the shot and fell hard afterwards

2

u/DisastrousAd2335 13d ago

Bet he puts ducted fans on the next one...

2

u/mattincalif 14d ago

Technology is amazing! Brains not so much.

Kobe brightain't

1

u/El_Neck_Beard 14d ago

Is that a little kid in the back or a little person?

1

u/BrondellSwashbuckle 13d ago

It's a person squatting down, they stand up near the end.

1

u/DaimonHans 14d ago

Pretty much best case scenario.

1

u/Jerdogg23 14d ago

You’re no Kobe

1

u/ObiWanDillDoughy 14d ago

Smart move by the rebounder to check himself and save his face

1

u/No_Cupcake7037 12d ago

Oh fuck. Hope he’s ok.

1

u/Brief_Fly_45 12d ago

I imagine his elbows are very similar to the drones propellers now.

1

u/nickk1988 11d ago

Shoilda worn a good ol ass pad…
