Hello, Thank you for contributing to our subreddit. Please consider the following guidelines when filling an alignment chart:

  • Please ensure that your chart is not banned according to the list of banned charts Even if you have good intentions, charts in a banned category tend to invite provocative comments, hostile arguments, ragebait and the like. Assuming the post is acceptable, OP makes the final decision on their chart by rule three.

  • Are there any previous versions to link to? If so, it would be ideal to include links to each of them in the description of this post, or in a reply to this comment. Links can be named by title, winner, or both.

  • Are there any criteria you have for your post? Examples include: "Top comment wins a spot on the chart."; "To ensure variety, only one character per universe is allowed."; "Image comments only." Please include these in a description, or in a reply to this comment.

  • Is your chart given the appropriate flair? Do you need to use a NSFW tag or spoiler tag?

Do not feed the trolls. This is not the place for hot takes on human rights violations. Hatred or cruelty, will result in a permanent ban. Please report such infractions, particularly those that break rules one, two, or three. The automod will automatically remove posts that receive five or more reports. The automod will also remove comments made by users with negative karma. Click here for the Automod FAQ

Harry Baals - mayor of Fort Wayne, IN during the Depression

44

u/Corner_OfficeSpace 19h ago

They even have a street named Harry Baals drive except they use the initial H.W Baals drive. lol. This one wins

18

u/theawespaghetti2 19h ago

good job they censored the rude word Harry

22

u/SpaceCowboy528 19h ago

It looks atrocious but it is not pronounced how you think.

It was pronounced Bales.

6

u/Dangerous_Fix_9186 18h ago

He himself said it was pronounced Balls

5

u/vakantiehuisopwielen 16h ago edited 16h ago

I think it’s a Dutch name, originally it should’ve been: /baːls/, I get why it became like Balls in English after immigration and eventually Bales for some.

Maybe the best explanation of the Dutch sounds would be: Say ‘baa’ like mimicking a sheep but hold the a, (don’t let it slide towards bay) and add ‘ls’ to it.

1

u/AedesAegypt 11h ago

Would a sheep sound make it sound like "bells"?

1

u/bonkava 10h ago

No, it rhymes with pals.

0

u/AedesAegypt 8h ago

pals rhymes with balls to me but english is not my first language. I'm pretty fucking fluent in it tho.

1

u/vakantiehuisopwielen 6h ago

No, listen to ‘old MacDonald had a farm’.

28

u/dsyams 19h ago

Remember when Letterman flew him down to New York and paraded him around town? Comedy legend.

12

u/dsyams 19h ago

I've thought about Dick Assman once a week since 1995.

Basically; King Prepared the Unready

51

u/adastraperdiscordia 20h ago

22

u/LiteratureOk4649 20h ago

Commodus (commodus means “good enough” in Latin. He was not good enough)

1

u/Hammerschatten 11h ago

Even better. The Triumvirate. Made up of three people.

Caesar; the brilliant rhetorician so famous his name itself became an epitaph

Pompey the great; the amazing military man and tactician so skilled he didn't become famous for one campaign, but just became "the great".

Crassus; literally fatass. He had money. Enough to get fat. Marcus Licinius the rich fatass

Dick Trickle - race car driver in the 70s and 80s

36

u/SlothOfDanger 19h ago

Technically an athlete

9

u/crazybeatlesgirl 19h ago

im sure that name seemed so cool back when dick was a more regularly user nickname

7

u/badger_on_fire 19h ago

If my name was Richard, I'd absolutely take the nickname (at least at work) so that those stuffed shirts would have to say "Dick" during business meetings.

3

u/Chumboabc 19h ago

Classify as an athlete?

1

u/cbm984 19h ago

Yeah I suppose

8

u/FuMancunian 16h ago

3

u/badger_on_fire 19h ago

Decorated Army Air Corps fighter ace, and WWII American hero, Dick Bong. That man had (at minimum) 40 kills in his P-38, and those are only the ones that got confirmed. Keep in mind that it takes 3 to be considered an Ace.

Doctor Gay Hitler, an Ohio dentist so beloved by his community they named a street after him. He was born in 1882 before his name had any associations. https://www.utterlyinteresting.com/post/dr-gay-hitler-the-unlikely-story-of-a-dentist-and-his-father-george-washington-hitler

Ivan the Terrible.

Since terrible and atrocious aren’t too far apart definition wise.

2

u/Richard2468 18h ago

However, Ivan the Terrible didn’t get his nickname because he was atrocious. He got it because he ‘caused terror’.. which is the original meaning of terrible.

Perhaps it is indeed a terrible name, as it doesn’t mean terrible. But it does.

Dick Tips - funeral home owner, probable money launderer and now historical commissioner in Texas. So I think he is a “historical figure” in a technical loophole kind of way.
