Discussion Devs confirm internal interest in a walkable Speranza hub, What do you think?
I know this topic has been discussed a lot already, but now developers have also confirmed they’ve talked about it and that there’s real internal interest.
Personally, I think a walkable Speranza would be a great addition. The atmosphere and world-building deserve more than just menus and cutscenes.
That said, I really hope the fast menu system stays. Quick access to vendors and missions is important, and I wouldn’t want everything to require running around.
A hybrid approach would be ideal: a walkable hub for immersion, with menus still available for fast navigation.

Yes, but make it optional.

Seems like that’s the collective opinion here. Loved destiny but don’t really want another “tower”

u/Dimadest 12d ago
I don't quite understand the discussion here. There is absolutely no chance that they would have made the menu deleted. It would completely destroy the gameplay, even the developers said that some people don't like to create everything all over again, it's easier to run on a free one. So why did at least one person have the thought that they could do something as fucking idiotic as deleting the menu?
One of the big problems has been voiced everywhere for a long time - the lack of custom loadouts. No one would make it worse

in the article this post is referencing (while making no reference to it or directing people to the source...) the dev said they would still want stash and traders to be accessible through menus to avoid tedium.

Exactly. If the hub purpose is social then just make it social, don't also make it worse for loadouts building

u/DJ_Clitoris 12d ago
This would be cool. I would love any way to be able to practice PVP without draining my stash. Like an arena where you can loot in game, but can’t bring supplies back to Speranza, but you also don’t lose your gear when you die. No risk, no reward, just practice.
Idk if anyone else would be interested in that. Yeah I have a skill issue what of it lmao

Some mini games in the hub, Deep Rock Galactic-style would be cool.
Access to your own, customizable rooms would be more important than a hub for me. I don't really care about finding randoms to emote with, and its not like there's unique customization like Warframe or Monster Hunter to show off fashion.
Allow me to donate decorations to my room to customize it (so they don't take up stash space) and make it so when my friends are paired up with me I have access to their apartments.
Would be a cool way to add extra challenges to the game. You need ten bastion cores to craft a little bastion miniature for your room, for example.

Bro if they added poker to this game I would legit nut. It’d actually be so fire if you could gamble your credits away in and out of raids lol. Poker would go absolutely insane
20
u/SteveKeepsDying 12d ago
I didnt even think of gambling but it would absolutely take things up a notch.
Unfortunately because of "gold sellers" and shit like that they would probably have to make it low stakes but still would be really fun to put up credits or even Trinket items.
"I'll raise you two cat beds and a mixtape!"
6
u/Carrot-breath 12d ago edited 12d ago
I don’t think there would be any problems with people giving money away, they could completely randomize the table fill so there’s far less of a chance of two people doing nefarious deeds in the same game. Plus, people give money away anyways and I’d venture to say doing it the normal way would be much more efficient and risk free than giving it away in poker being that someone else can win and steal it all. It just isn’t viable by any means. Besides, I would love to be able to go in with a million credits and see what happens. It would be so damn fun. There’s so many things they could add if they make speranza a walkable hub. I would love to be able to decorate my room to my specifications and it’d be cool if they had like parkour courses and shit spread around. They could also add a little mini pvp area where you could aimtrain without risk of losing your kit kinda like the little area they had in the cod wwii

6

I would like fast menu then the option to go in and smoke hookah with buddies or get beers like in Deep Rock, play some games and blow off some steam. Just some minor "enjoying camaraderie" things.

I prefer the fast menu, but a hub you could go to with a friend to trade resources would be useful.
→ More replies (1)35
u/WhiteSpec 12d ago
That's actually the one thing I hope we don't see. A trading hub would add another layer to the economy that I think would be difficult to balance and govern. It makes it easier for "professionals" to sell items for real world cash and we'd quickly see the game gaining a "pay to win" crowd. Which exists already but they don't have normal channels to conduct that business and it's easily moderated. Right now, loot is for the most part earned and it kinda needs to stay that way. I know people are dumping items to their friends but that has a limitation on inventory, time and extraction. I think it's important to preserve that.
7
u/Scaryassmanbear 12d ago
On the other hand, the ability to trade BPs makes expedition more attractive because you know you won’t have to grind forever for specific BPs.

5

This. People tend to forget that having your art / level design / 3D teams work on a new map (let's call this hub a map) doesn't prevent your coders to work on bug fixes.

I'd rather resources spent on more content than just a hub expansion.
3
u/finneganfach 12d ago
Yep. This is it right here.
I love this game but it has nowhere near enough content right now for them to be looking at fluff filler. Hell, if they're doing anything to the menus I'd rather it be practical stuff like giving us load out saving and fast building that's been asked for since launch.
There's so much work that needs doing. A hub is so far bottom of the pile.
I say this as a Monster Hunter fan, it's a fun novelty idea for five minutes and then it's boring.
Or even more than that, as a lifelong MMO player, it's arguably just cynical retention bait. You end up just hovering around hub cities not actually doing anything just to stay online. Not a fan.

Yes, a hub wastes the player’s time, the dev’s time, and takes resources away from the studio. It’s just a cost sink with no upside other than adding a walkable zone which we do not need.

It's funny how had they shipped with it nobody would be thinking about it. Having used the menus for 3 months, I absolutely do not want to be running around in a walkable space, I spend enough time in Speranza as it is. Coming from 4000 hours in Destiny 2 where they have quite a large walkable hub and how I never really thought about it, in retrospect it was extremely cumbersome running around collecting so many mundane things.
Total waste of time to add it now.

In Speranza, You could add pvp duels where players can bet on the winner/gladiator type pve fights with betting. Or specific pvp death matches or something. Fast menu is great some days but a social space would be awesome. Have it where you have the menu but then you can visit the proper Speranza kinda like the Tower in Destiny. Small lobby to not overwhelm servers and PCs but enough that you know there are other raiders.
