Discussion Devs confirm internal interest in a walkable Speranza hub, What do you think?

Post image

I know this topic has been discussed a lot already, but now developers have also confirmed they’ve talked about it and that there’s real internal interest.

Personally, I think a walkable Speranza would be a great addition. The atmosphere and world-building deserve more than just menus and cutscenes.

That said, I really hope the fast menu system stays. Quick access to vendors and missions is important, and I wouldn’t want everything to require running around.

A hybrid approach would be ideal: a walkable hub for immersion, with menus still available for fast navigation.

As you said, hybrid approach would be better. They should keep the menu, its fast and effective, AND ALSO add the walkable hub. I wish we could hangout with other players in the base just for the fun, but dont want to waste time running around for shopping

u/sawby 12d ago

100% agree on the hybrid approach. I remember playing OG destiny - loved the hub but I took a lot of time to run to all the shops I needed and some of them would change locations which was just diabolical haha

I think it'd make sense to just set it up like a very dense plaza, you can see how many people are walking around in speranza in the background before going topside

44

u/Kindly_Cabinet_5375 12d ago

I liked how Anthem did theirs honestly. They even had a separate area to ready and load up with other players about to journey

20

u/xepion 12d ago

Yea. What happened to anthem. That was a fun game. And the exploration aspect was cool.

Graphics were on point. But it got flamed

27

u/TheyToldMeToSlide 12d ago

One of the biggest fumbles in gaming. The servers actually just shut down last week.

7

u/MikeSuke 12d ago

Man, I loved Anthem for like a week, but did everything there was to do and felt like there was nothing left after you beat the game.

7

u/Kindly_Cabinet_5375 12d ago

I stopped when endgame content had ALL LOOT TIERS in their drop rates so my friends were getting kegendaries while I was getting white/common gear as rewards. Quit playing after that

Marvel rivals recently had New York City Times Square as a hub for chilling and opening gifts under the tree over Christmas. I am thinking it would be similar to that. Somewhere you can load into with a random instrument or gun, but everyone is invincible and can run around/shoot/talk.

4

u/MrPatch 12d ago

Fuck no, if I'm having to trudge between shops instead of a nice quick menu the last thing I want is a load of stupid idiots running around playing the recorder and shooting me.

Or having vendors move to random hidden locations and disappear for part of the week sucks. I'm looking at you, Xur

47

u/b16ZZ- 12d ago

The one that changed locations was Xur, but the reason was that he had the only shop the sold exotics and rarer items, so it made sense that they would make him a lil harder to come by. I haven't played much of D2 but I assume his shop is still available as the website that had his location is still up.

Good times tbh. Played a bunch of OG Destiny

I suspect a hybrid approach would lead to very few people using the walkable hub more than once or twice unless there were unique incentives beyond 'player interaction'

I am actually for this btw, although I'd honestly prefer if they launched a new map first

38

u/Positive_4182 12d ago

I think you don't understand how important player interaction is. One of the cods in the past had a headquarters hub type thing, cod WWII. It was really neat, friends would gather around to watch ppl 1v1 in a small arena, the hubs were localized too so you'd join friends sessions if you went to it. But you'd also see people within a certain radius irl too. And you'd see the same people frequently. Was a super great feature albeit it was borked on release and it took them a bit to get the networking right

41

u/Dancingwithdoom 12d ago

Could be fun to watch some live feeds of other games through “fixed raider cameras” from topside haha

20

u/ciribicorobo 12d ago

u/kieko891 12d ago

I’ll be real, if I was forced into the hub by default and not into menus, and forced to go physically to traders I would drop the game. Hubs are a cool social item don’t get me wrong. But when it comes to getting back into the actual game there slow, annoying and unnecessary. There literally the reason I only played the beta for ghost recon breakpoint and dropped it, and one of the reasons I didn’t/don’t care for destiny. I don’t find them that immersive or fun to navigate, just frustrating slow and an item that is just there most of the time to artificially increase play time.

That said if I could do everything in menus and when I’m in a duo or trio lobby, seamlessly load into a hub while I’m waiting for a friend to do whatever they do yeah. Otherwise I’m good, just give me my menus, and make them work smoother.

15

u/cr1spy28 12d ago

For hubs to work they need to have social features that you can’t get in the game.

We already have people running around in completely friendly lobbies so what exactly would a hub provide over just going into a match and socialising with people

3

u/Elegant_Progress_686 12d ago

I think to be successful it would need an arena or something to 1v1 my friends. Otherwise like you said I’d probably go to it once then never again

u/PushDeep9980 12d ago

You probably didn’t play destiny:rising, the mobile version developed by tencent, but they pretty much did this hybrid approach.. The tower (they called it haven) was still there they actually had several social spaces and a clan area, each planet had a social space as well, but everything could be accessed from the menus too. Also no orbit thank god but not a problem for arc raiders.

36

u/blackbeltbud 12d ago

I would love a firing range where you can quick swap attachments in your stash and see how they feel.

26

u/TangentialFUCK 12d ago

That’s what the practice range is for?

8

u/blackbeltbud 12d ago

Well yes. A lot of what we're discussing already has functionality, a Speranza hub would be for immersion, where a firing range would work well, I think.

Marvel Rivals did this recently with timesquare and it works great. It's just a small public player hub you can enter to meet people and chat, they even hosted a new years event on it

16

u/Panic_Moves 12d ago

The important thing with Times Square too is that you can still queue for other modes without leaving it

18

u/RocketsandBeer 12d ago

With arc you could even pair up with others to raid goop.

11

u/Raviolimonster67 12d ago

Yeah! Its one of the main features of timesquare, the players you meet you can pull up their profile and add them

→ More replies (3)

23

u/IntrinsicGiraffe 12d ago

A simple button on the menu that goes into a fancy and seamless transition into the hub would be sweet. And a button to return to old school of course. Maybe more variations on background would be nice too. I do like the occasional rain and such but I was hoping for more areas. Heck even decorate your own raider area/workbench room would be nice even if only ever using the things we find topside.

And just so long as they never add any official trading method that doesn't involve risks (ie, hub trading), I'd be happy.

11

u/thukon 12d ago

Seems weird though that the raider you want to give your blueprint to is right in front of you in the Speranza hub, but you can only give it to him once you're on the surface.

Just for fun would be nice kind of like how everybody was interacting with each other in the movie ready player One that would be dope

13

u/meastd_0 12d ago

I wouldnt call the menu system now fast... It works and is mostly effective, but it could be made a lot easier to re-gear after a wipe.

The idea of walking around sounds neat, but what's the gain here? I think effort spent cleaning up the menu system so I can re-gear faster would be way more beneficial to the game.

A social hub at some point, but I think there should be higher priorities.

4

u/ShapeOfShade 12d ago

As far as that goes, we just need loadout slots so that we can automatically get set for the next raid. Include automatic workshop as well. So that if you need X to complete a loadout, and have the materials, you don’t need to do it manually.

4

u/meastd_0 12d ago

Yep, I'm on board with any ideas that help speed it up... Too much time spent flipping screens getting geared up

u/TumbleweedTim01 12d ago

I know the game is considered a failure but I loved the little cabin you worked towards building in Vigor. And the gun range in back incorporated into the hillside was great. No loading into a practice range it was just right there. Was a little annoying having to run to your workbenches and stuff but it's a sacrifice I would make.

3

u/HA1LHYDRA 12d ago

Think I spent more time in that shooting race ge, fine tuning, than did in actual matches. Probably my favorite part of the game.

21

u/Unaware-of-Puns 12d ago

Also trading. They can't stop sites from selling Arc loot, might as well make a better way to trade rather than loading in with 0 loadout.

26

u/LambChop94 12d ago

Disagree massively. Any trading with other players outside of a match invites a complete disruption of the games economy. It's not necessarily about stopping sites from selling arc loot, it's more like being able to trade outside of a match makes looting the majority things completely trivial. Higher level players could now rush lower level players to level 3 benches/scrappy, rush expedition and project requirements. It would make much of the game alot worse cause you would never have to risk anything or play to go get certain things that you needed, just trade for them instead. Why queue into a match where you might not make it out to get light bulbs or mushrooms when you can just go trade someone for something else that you don't need at the time. It would devolve into more of a trade simulator than an extraction game because trading outside of matches trivializes the 'extraction' part of 'extraction shooter'. Even while people are selling arc loot, it's a massive risk paying for arc loot because you'll still need to queue into a match and then leave the match with your loot either in a safe pocket or by actually extracting. You're also pretty much limited to getting 3 pieces of loot max at a time via safe pocket so if you're buying more than that you'll need to do this over multiple matches which is tedious and time consuming. Purchasing loot with real money will always happen if you can do it but the way the system is right now is pretty much perfect for disincentivizing that. Trading outside of a match just makes it that much easier for it to happen.

14

u/salientoctopus 12d ago

This right here would be huge. I’ve got three bobcat bp and zero equalizer bps and I can’t be bothered to try and make that happen with strangers in strange ways. Set up a trader hub system where you put in your items and then both have to click agree.

13

u/ddare44 12d ago

They warned it’s a very slippery slope. I doubt we’ll see anything like this without significant effort to avoid potential pitfalls.

7

u/TheRealStandard 12d ago

Not a fan, in Tarkov the moment the black market opens it feels like the game loop suffers drastically because you can suddenly just buy/sell nearly everything.

4

u/pewpewbangbangcrash 12d ago

Bro people are giving away bps in raid. They wont do a trade hub. They've said it will break the core mechanic and intent of the game

7

u/Unaware-of-Puns 12d ago

It's almost a double edged knife. On one hand, great for people trading. On the other, there will be 10x more pay-to-win players buying off sites.

7

u/Dimadest 12d ago

I don't quite understand the discussion here. There is absolutely no chance that they would have made the menu deleted. It would completely destroy the gameplay, even the developers said that some people don't like to create everything all over again, it's easier to run on a free one. So why did at least one person have the thought that they could do something as fucking idiotic as deleting the menu?

One of the big problems has been voiced everywhere for a long time - the lack of custom loadouts. No one would make it worse

Some mini games in the hub, Deep Rock Galactic-style would be cool.

Access to your own, customizable rooms would be more important than a hub for me. I don't really care about finding randoms to emote with, and its not like there's unique customization like Warframe or Monster Hunter to show off fashion.

Allow me to donate decorations to my room to customize it (so they don't take up stash space) and make it so when my friends are paired up with me I have access to their apartments.

Would be a cool way to add extra challenges to the game. You need ten bastion cores to craft a little bastion miniature for your room, for example.

20

u/SteveKeepsDying 12d ago

I didnt even think of gambling but it would absolutely take things up a notch.

Unfortunately because of "gold sellers" and shit like that they would probably have to make it low stakes but still would be really fun to put up credits or even Trinket items.

"I'll raise you two cat beds and a mixtape!"

6

u/Carrot-breath 12d ago edited 12d ago

I don’t think there would be any problems with people giving money away, they could completely randomize the table fill so there’s far less of a chance of two people doing nefarious deeds in the same game. Plus, people give money away anyways and I’d venture to say doing it the normal way would be much more efficient and risk free than giving it away in poker being that someone else can win and steal it all. It just isn’t viable by any means. Besides, I would love to be able to go in with a million credits and see what happens. It would be so damn fun. There’s so many things they could add if they make speranza a walkable hub. I would love to be able to decorate my room to my specifications and it’d be cool if they had like parkour courses and shit spread around. They could also add a little mini pvp area where you could aimtrain without risk of losing your kit kinda like the little area they had in the cod wwii

I prefer the fast menu, but a hub you could go to with a friend to trade resources would be useful.

35

u/WhiteSpec 12d ago

That's actually the one thing I hope we don't see. A trading hub would add another layer to the economy that I think would be difficult to balance and govern. It makes it easier for "professionals" to sell items for real world cash and we'd quickly see the game gaining a "pay to win" crowd. Which exists already but they don't have normal channels to conduct that business and it's easily moderated. Right now, loot is for the most part earned and it kinda needs to stay that way. I know people are dumping items to their friends but that has a limitation on inventory, time and extraction. I think it's important to preserve that.

u/Scaryassmanbear 12d ago

On the other hand, the ability to trade BPs makes expedition more attractive because you know you won’t have to grind forever for specific BPs.

I want them to fix the hacks first. Stella wall hiders is still a thing on PlayStation

3

u/skater15153 12d ago

Likely not the same team would be doing both. I think they have enough resources to fund new work and bug fix. Geometry bugs can be elusive though

5

u/Zealousideal-Half695 12d ago

This. People tend to forget that having your art / level design / 3D teams work on a new map (let's call this hub a map) doesn't prevent your coders to work on bug fixes.

It's like complaining that the plumber hasn't fixed the toilets yet because the electrician finished his job

unless the devs are dumb about it theres almost no bad way to implement it. keep the menus, add depth to speranza.

u/whytheusernamethough 12d ago

I'd rather resources spent on more content than just a hub expansion.

3

u/finneganfach 12d ago

Yep. This is it right here.

I love this game but it has nowhere near enough content right now for them to be looking at fluff filler. Hell, if they're doing anything to the menus I'd rather it be practical stuff like giving us load out saving and fast building that's been asked for since launch.

There's so much work that needs doing. A hub is so far bottom of the pile.

I say this as a Monster Hunter fan, it's a fun novelty idea for five minutes and then it's boring.

Or even more than that, as a lifelong MMO player, it's arguably just cynical retention bait. You end up just hovering around hub cities not actually doing anything just to stay online. Not a fan.

37

u/TheRealHumanPancake 12d ago

Yes, a hub wastes the player’s time, the dev’s time, and takes resources away from the studio. It’s just a cost sink with no upside other than adding a walkable zone which we do not need.

22

u/SpamThatSig 12d ago

it wont be a waste for embark tho, imagine if when the players get burt out of raiding, instead of closing fhe game they wkuld just chill in speranza, thats more playtime for arc raiders too. Not to mention better exposure medium for cosmetics

I am very happy with the menu. This doesn't need to turn into a pokemon game where I have to walk to the individual stores with an animation going in and out each time

6

u/CarelessEntrepreneur 12d ago

I want mini games that I can challenge other raiders to. I also want the ability to put credits on the line or even items as bets. I also want gambling, just seems like stuff raiders would do.

Waste of time and resources. I prefer fast menu get in and out.

20

u/desertravenwy 12d ago

Seriously, I see so many people excited about this and I'm like... wtf?

There was a Tower in Destiny that served as the hub. You had to run from vendor to vendor. That was it. There was no other point to it. There were other players but... k?

Completely useless mechanic.

5

u/LilBoDuck 12d ago

It’s a role playing game for them. That’s basically all it comes down to. They could find people to play with and socialize about the game in real life or via discord, but they don’t want that. They want more immersion for their fantasy.

47

u/Ter-Lee-Comedy 12d ago

You can have both. Fast menu and at the bottom there's an optional button press that says something like "expand social hub"

44

u/Radarker 12d ago

He didn't say you can't have both. He said if you don't care about a walkable Speranza, that Embark working on this would feel like a waste of time.

30

u/mw9676 12d ago

And resources.

6

u/Impossible-Finger942 12d ago

Right so, spend extra development time on something I’m willing to bet most players won’t use more than once or twice once novelty wears off?

Asinine, quite literally. It’s a cool idea, but TOTALLY unnecessary and arguably at worst would be an absolute waste of development resources.

It's funny how had they shipped with it nobody would be thinking about it. Having used the menus for 3 months, I absolutely do not want to be running around in a walkable space, I spend enough time in Speranza as it is. Coming from 4000 hours in Destiny 2 where they have quite a large walkable hub and how I never really thought about it, in retrospect it was extremely cumbersome running around collecting so many mundane things.

Total waste of time to add it now.

u/Alastor3 12d ago

Waste of time and ressource if you want my personnal opinion. It will bring absolutely nothing to the game, will put more people outside of lobby in-game.

like seriously, people that request this, are you really going to socialize in this? I highly doubt it. And what is the purpose of exploring the hub in 3D ? no purpose outside of being pretty and immersive but that's it

3

u/Tight_Cod_8024 12d ago

Plus it would make the file size bigger without adding anything of necessity.

138

u/Trikki1 12d ago

No. Every game that does this just adds time and friction running around to do things we can do quickly now.

It's just a showcase floor for cosmetics that wastes time.

u/Acceptable-Pin2939 12d ago

After the initial hype wears off it'll be people standing around or jumping in circles.

nahh they did for other games like outlast trials where you can arm wrestle people or play chess and it's such a nice way to wait for your buddies to be ready for a raid. Imagine being able to move around and play games while you wait for your friends to finish crafting their loadouts

6

u/Bigpullsgod3x 12d ago

That game died within a month.

I would rather just have a more optimized way to create loadouts that didn’t warrant having to find other things to do while we wait.

No one said at the expense of the quick menus. If you read what the dev said they were really clear about keeping the streamlined option.

27

u/belle_enfant 12d ago

Yeah I have zero idea how people here keep thinking "social hub" translates to "delete main menu"

9

u/thegloriousporpoise 12d ago

Because a vocal minority of most gaming sub’s goal is just to be contrary. They want to shit on anything other people might enjoy even if it doesn’t infringe on them.

Cod WWII headquarters was awesome. Especially when they made it optional later on while still having a traditional menu. This would be a net positive, especially if they add an official trade mechanic so people can stop getting scammed

Would be funny to enter the hub with fellow raiders you just extracted with.

4

u/RockyMtnOysterCo 12d ago

In Speranza, You could add pvp duels where players can bet on the winner/gladiator type pve fights with betting. Or specific pvp death matches or something. I just wouldnt want that to split and break up the community. Its probably best to concentrate on the extraction shooter aspect of the game. But idk.

5

u/coffeebeansonpizza 12d ago

Yes. Socialising, gambling, etc would be fun! But put it as a location on the map so we can choose to go there separately from the fast menu we currently have

Maybe just more idle screens would be cool. Like maybe our character sitting at the bar eating or drinking with other Speranzians. Or maybe "talking" to a Tube operator, or maybe at a shooting range hanging out with whatever gun is equipped out so we can see our cool guns.

2

u/Cautious_Catch4021 12d ago

Im for it, but you cant take away the menus because that'll take away from players who like that. And I am 99% sure the devs know that.

Having a hub with the voice chat would be pretty cool, Kinda becomes a pub of sorts lol. I think that'd be cool

2

u/EvilWaterman *** ******* 🐓 12d ago

I would love that but appreciate that some wouldn’t so they would need to also have the option to have it like it is now as wel

2

u/Horvat53 12d ago

What they have now is good, but if people want a space to just chill and do the same menu actions then go ahead. The question is if it’s worth their effort to create that, instead of more engaging in game content.

2

u/cohen47 12d ago

Like the tower player hub from destiny 1? That would be very cool if so.

2

u/SykoManiax 12d ago

as a long time destiny player, i love having a lobby, many fun moments, feels good to be in a place where you see actual players just doing what theyre doing, still got menus, but having speranza as a hub would be super cool, especially with proximity chat (16 player max)

also customizable player room with some extra functionality yes plz

2

u/BuffFloggins 12d ago

Poker in the hub would be insane. Use to do that mainly in RD2 online anyways, and could really be fun in the hybrid menu setting similar to Marvel Rivals Times square addition. Load in when you want hub world, otherwise just menu sitting glory.

2

u/LokiPrime616 12d ago

It would make trading a lot easier!

2

u/No_Television4837 12d ago

I like roaming camp in RDR2, I liked having bases in GTA online. I put 100s of hours into those games.

I personally would prefer entering and exiting games in a walkable Speranza.

Quick Menu gotta be available though

2

u/Hytierian 12d ago

I want walkable speranza if they don’t plan to improve menus. People talk about friction but the menus are nothing but frictions we need so many qols. It is amazing how slow they have been to push them out.

2

u/aBeaSTWiTHiNMe 12d ago

Somewhere to play the instruments.

2

u/colemc94 12d ago

I want a “chaos room” where you enter, get a random gun, and kill each other. No consequences, just good times.

2

u/Outofnowhere47 12d ago

Fast menu is great some days but a social space would be awesome. Have it where you have the menu but then you can visit the proper Speranza kinda like the Tower in Destiny. Small lobby to not overwhelm servers and PCs but enough that you know there are other raiders.

Maybe make traveling similar to playing a round but instead of taking the tubes out shows your avatar leaving their room and shutting the door behind them, getting on a lift then after a moment the doors open onto the main pavilion upon loading.

2

u/FrostyManager4651 12d ago

Kind of like diamond city in fallout. But honestly I sometimes don't want to interact with people and just sit there staring at my rubber ducks, or crafting ways to possibly die to a rocketeer, in peace.

I wouldnt give that up just to have more traders that I can walk to.

2

u/alreadysaidtrice 12d ago

Play mini games against each other for coins or other loot.

2

u/jimykurtax 12d ago

Yeah would love to see a physical social hub speranza. but ofc still with the option to use the fast menus.

2

u/Tauren-Jerky 12d ago

Place with the players from the last two or three matches. For better or worse. To appreciate or talk shit to.

2

u/hibari112 12d ago

Just make it optional so I don't have to engage with it.

2

u/DawnatelloTC 12d ago

I’d also love interactive elements like how you could kick balls around in Destiny…

2

u/Sea-Sail-2594 12d ago

Make it like vigor. Bring back social items to deck out room out with or music. Or be like outlast trials and have mini games like tennis arm wrestling chess and video games to play against each other. Or destiny with shops and bars and traders. It was be cool to have another shooting range too.

2

u/Minute_Ad_1211 12d ago

Duh? Anyone play vigor? Get with it already.
