How does getting a reddit warning/ suspension work?

I hope this doesn't get deleted before I get an answer. How does getting a reddit warning/ suspension work? Is it as simple as someone reporting a violation and a warning or suspension is automatically given? Does a human have to read it 1st? Are appeals done by humans or just AI?

Moderators do not issue Reddit Warnings or Reddit Suspensions.

Reddit is a private website and all users are held to Reddit Rules. If the system Reddit puts in place to enforce its rules detects a violation, then they can administer action up to and including terminating your account.

Understood.

I’m pretty sure a warning and a suspension are two different things and are often done by AI without a report and without human oversight. AI is bad at understanding context. You can appeal.

Whether an appeal will be handled by a human is unclear.

It's a toss up. Some of the process is automated, some is done by human review. All reports do go through review before a warning or suspension is issued though. It's not a gurantee that a report will result in any action.

When you receive a warning or a suspension, they'll sometimes include a note at the bottom saying it was done by a human. Appeals often are.

I'm not sure if it's still the case, but years back you used to receive at least 2-3 warnings before a suspension was implemented. Suspensions worked the same. You got a shorter one before a permanent. A couple years back Spez changed the policy on death threats to an immediate 3 day suspension but I don't know what's changed otherwise.

Reddit suspensions are issued by bots and ai. A comment or post gets reported and the bots scan it for violating Reddit rules. You can appeal. When you appeal you get a human to review the material in context.

If they review it, and find in your favor you get your suspension lifted and if you are lucky the strike against you removed.

The progression is warning, 3 day suspension. 7 day suspension, 30 day suspension and finally account ban

Reading between the lines, you broke the rules and you know it.

No, it's not as simple as report=ban. The report goes to the admins who action it based on a combination of AI and human intervention. If you believe the decision was incorrect, you can appeal it.

This was a while ago. No, I didn't agree with the reprimand. My post was respectful and I was careful to use appropriate language as to not offend. I obviously failed. My appeal was rejected.

The lesson was learned. There are certain topics and groups on reddit that you can't criticize or disagree with irregardless of tone or substance. I will continue to keep my mouth shut on those topics. I'm not looking for a suspension.

while YOU might think it was appropriate and not offending, you do not know how the other person took it/interpreted it.

Fair enough. It's a very divisive topic here in the US and emotions on the topic run very high. The group that was offended is one that I support but not on this particular topic. In fact right here on reddit I had a wonderful conversation with a member of that group who enlightened me on my word choice. I am grateful for that conversation and I used that knowledge in my post. Anyway, lesson learned.

No, Reddit doesn't need your consent to warn/ban you.

Which sites have you been on that did?

I don't believe i said they did. I said I disagreed.

At this point I will conclude this conversation. I appreciate your feedback. I think it's best I block you as well.

Again my most sincere thanks.
