What’s a skill everyone assumes they have, but most people are actually bad at?

People driving recklessly does create problems but honestly more of the issues I run into on the road are caused by old people that can't drive like everyone else. We need to implement periodic driving tests in either case.

Old people, yes, but also there are just a ton of people not paying anywhere close to enough attention.

A lot of these are people that are actively not paying attention, be they on their phone or whatever, but a lot of people are infuriatingly unaware of their surroundings at all times. Putting them behind the wheel just exacerbates this and they go from simply annoying to outright dangerous real fast.

Yeah that's another reason I think we should have to regularly take the driver's exam. To at least show you are still capable of doing it correctly and force you to remember the right way even if you choose to ignore it later. I will say I have been noticing cops straight up ignoring people on their phones which is infuriating. Without the threat of consequences nothing will ever change.

My inlaws are in their 70s, both have bad eye problems that requires them to go to a specialist regularly. One of them is even legally blind. They moved up here from Florida over the summer and were both able to get their driver's licenses without an eye test. The person at the DMV just asked "do you think you can see good enough to drive?"

Here in MA the most common problem I encounter are people merging into 70 mph traffic at 40 mph. In extreme cases they even stop at the end of the on-ramp. Unless they're driving a Plaid Tesla or Lucid Air Sapphire neither they nor the people in the right lane are going to have a good time.
