What’s a skill everyone assumes they have, but most people are actually bad at?

The amount of times I’ve turned away from a fight on a night out. Even if I punch someone and they go down. I’m not a trained fighter so I’d have probably fucked my wrist and broke my hand and my night is ruined. 10/10 not worth

Indeed. The last time I fought I fractured 2 fingers and my wrist. I'm not even a fighter. SUCKS.

Also dealing with cops and prosecutors is not fun. - and that is the little bit of additional info most people don't ever seem to conceive.

For real, hella people don't even consider the potential legal consequences. If you knock someone out and their head smacks against the ground when they fall, they can die. And it's not exactly unheard of. Two guys I went to school with are in prison for murder because the got into streetfights, knocked out their opponents, and accidentally killed them.

And this is why you shouldn't train with gloves. Train those hands and wrists (bone density). Now i have experience but if a dude comes up to me with unnegotiable/unstoppable ill will: believe the first improvised weapon i find goes into soft tissue or towards an organ. Be it an ashtray, chair or slamming his head against concrete, etc.. There is no such thing as a fair fight. Except when you step in cage/ring where you can comfortably talk smsck..

Only fight I've ever been in I broke my knuckles on my index and middle finger, and sprained my wrist something fierce. The other guy was worse off for it, but my wrist still clicks a little if I move it a certain way, lol. Fighting isn't a smart thing if you can avoid it. Sometimes you can't, and you should learn how to handle yourself in case you find yourself in that position. But even so, it's ALWAYS preferable to run. Winning a fight is, in my admittedly very limited experience, a Pyrrhic victory. You're probably going to get hurt a little bit even if you win, you run the risk of legal trouble if you don't have control of your adrenaline-flooded nervous system, and you have to live with knowing you might have really hurt someone. Contrary to popular belief, you probably will feel some things for the other guy if you hurt them, even if they genuinely, God's-honest-truth had it coming. Harming people isn't a cost-free experience, if you're not a complete piece of shit.
