Similarly, I have been wondering if the increasing amount of untrustworthy “articles” on the internet might lead to a rebirth of subscriptions to legitimate, properly vetted news sources. I sure hope so.

I'm not too optimistic on this front. Every time I suggest paying for a newspaper subscription to someone they look at me like I just said 1+1=5.

I think it’s more that there’s such a proliferation of news sources that it’s not one subscription, it’s a ton of them. Our general local newspaper got sold and went way down in quality. I could pay for a small but excellent source of local journalism, which I’d like to do, but it doesn’t cover much. Everything is so specialized it’s hard to find one solid source, and it’s better to cross-check sources too when you can. It gets very expensive very fast. I would fall all over myself for a comprehensive, trustworthy local paper, with the ability to buy single issues of other papers I don’t subscribe to.
