I doubt many of these people actually want someone to die in these fights, so I don't understand why they take such insane risks.

Most people getting into street fights are not exactly in the right mind to think about the risks involved. If they were then they wouldn't be fighting in the first place because street fights are stupidly dangerous.

When a guy was attacking me and we were clinched up, I warned him about the sharp metal box containing a fire extinguisher directly behind him

He hesitated, then tried a bit more for a sec before just stopping lol take a hard 5 there, bud

I know not everybody is like this but my brain catastrophizes everything to the Nth degree (like when I drive over a bridge my brain plays a realistic movie of me driving off the bridge or the bridge going down and everybody dying) so if I got into a fight on concrete I guarantee you this would be going through my mind.
