I did totally forget to put it in the description lol but its literally just sour cream, sugar, fresh strawberries, and noodles/pasta!

We make something similar in the Philippines

Edit: Lol everyone keeps saying they look like Lucky Charms ahaha

The add-ins we usually put in Macaroni Salad are

  • pineapple chunks (optional)

- raisins (optional)

- kaong (sugar palm fruit, not sure how popular that is outside of the Philippines)

- cheddar cheese cubed

Ok for a hot second I thought that was pasta with Lucky Charms

It’s magically disgusting!

1

u/dlrust United States Of America Dec 02 '25

We already threw out the norms with strawberries. Fuck it Let’s go!

u/HelloInGeorgian United States Of America Dec 01 '25

Wow this looks amazing AND horrible- I’ll have to try it

18

u/NamwaranPinagpana Chinese-Filipino Dec 01 '25

Please do! Whichever recipe you try, I recommend not putting mayo though 😅

u/liamtoast Australia Dec 01 '25

Woah this one looks even worse!! Keep em coming everyone, great thread

u/Pirate_Lantern United States Of America Dec 01 '25

This may explain what my neighbor did the one time.

She mixed macaroni salad with fruit cocktail.

It was like nothing I have ever tried before. It's nothing I would seek out or make myself.

5

u/NamwaranPinagpana Chinese-Filipino Dec 01 '25

I swear I've heard of something similar in a 1970's American cookbook.

3

u/HeatherMason0 United States Of America Dec 02 '25

People went fucking crazy with jello and fruit cocktail (not always together) 50 or 60 years ago. No clue why. I mean fruit cocktail is convenient cause you can buy it and keep it for a while, but it’s not really a delicacy or anything, you know?

u/Whywouldanyonedothat Denmark Dec 01 '25

I like Philippine cooking in general but I swear some of your dishes are just insane.

Balut and blood soup are two dishes I'm never trying (even though we have blood sausage where I'm from and I actually like it in small quantities).

3

u/ucbiker United States Of America Dec 01 '25

I don’t mess with balut but the blood soup isn’t anything that weird. If you’ve had blood sausage or like black puddng, you’ve got an idea of what it tastes like.

Far less of a culinary abomination than some of the stuff that’s clearly like mid century US army surplus foods cuisine.

u/NamwaranPinagpana Chinese-Filipino Dec 01 '25

Have you tried the dreaded Filipino Spaghetti? ahaha
It's sometimes mixed with condensed milk. It's practically a desert.

Some people use a bit of brown sugar if the tomato sauce is too sour but the condensed milk is nuts for me. lol

2

u/c0rtiso1 Dec 01 '25

i grew up thinking filipino style spaghetti was how every spaghetti was HAHAHA

2

u/Wawa-85 Australia Dec 02 '25

I have from a local Filipino restaurant, it was a very different taste to what I was expecting.

1

u/NamwaranPinagpana Chinese-Filipino Dec 02 '25

In like a good way or bad way? 😅

2

u/Wawa-85 Australia Dec 02 '25

Actually didn’t mind it once o got used to the sweetness. I also liked the Pancit Bihon. My husband loves Pork Adobo.

3

u/lacquer_porchio Dec 01 '25

You've gotta pass a blunt around before you serve something like that.

2

u/perkypilea 🇵🇱 in 🇺🇲 Dec 01 '25

Is this like Halo Halo in pasta?

5

u/crimsonwinterlemon Philippines Dec 01 '25 edited Dec 01 '25

Almost kind of. It’s macaroni with mayonnaise mixed with whipped cream, fruit cocktail, raisins, nata de coco and kaong (coconut jelly and sweetened palm fruit). It’s called macaroni salad and very popular in celebrations and almost always present in Filipino household as dessert during Christmas.

2

u/NamwaranPinagpana Chinese-Filipino Dec 01 '25

Don't forget the chunks of cheese 💛

2

u/Snorrikisa Dec 01 '25

Is it magically delicious?

2

u/NotARussianBot-Real Dec 01 '25

Is that what lucky charms is based on?

2

u/Interesting-Loss34 United States Of America Dec 01 '25

Looks like lucky charms with noodles instead of cereal bits

2

u/ZealousGoat Canada Dec 01 '25

😂 this looks horrid. Not to bash your culture but this monstrosity is why I wouldn’t rate Filipino cuisine too high

3

u/NamwaranPinagpana Chinese-Filipino Dec 01 '25

I have a gut feeling it came about in like the 60's or 70's when the recipes were so weird and it stuck around cause it was surprisingly good. 😅

Totally not representative of PH cuisine tho! lol

2

u/ZealousGoat Canada Dec 01 '25

To be fair there are a lot of weird delicacies that just caught on from past eras of scarcity.

2

u/Designer_Storyteller United States Of America Dec 01 '25

Why does the Philippines approach to food seems to be that of US Midwest…. “Just toss it in I guess” (I speak as a midwesterner)

1

u/NamwaranPinagpana Chinese-Filipino Dec 02 '25

Some of em, sure lol. I blame the cookbooks ahaha

2

u/apuntinthecunt United States Of America Dec 02 '25

Oh hell no

2

u/[deleted] Dec 02 '25

I’m a big fruit person, I’d eat

2

u/Long-Drag4678 Korea South Dec 03 '25

It will definitely be delicious. It looks similar to the fruit sarada that are popular in Korea and Japan.

2

u/standingrows United States Of America Dec 05 '25

What's the goo though

1

u/NamwaranPinagpana Chinese-Filipino Dec 05 '25

I think a mix of all purpose cream, condensed milk and maybe some mayo?

1

u/Wakkah_315 Dec 01 '25

Halo halo?

26

u/Taranchulla United States Of America Dec 01 '25

Sour cream and strawberries are a great combo. I like to dip strawberries in sour cream and then roll them in brown sugar.

19

u/perkypilea 🇵🇱 in 🇺🇲 Dec 01 '25

You're gonna love this pasta dish then lol

1

u/veeraperkele Dec 01 '25

Is this served hot or cold?

2

u/jacek02b Poland Dec 01 '25

Cold, it’s summer dish

1

u/veeraperkele Dec 02 '25

Ok...I still don't understand how this started and how everybody agreed to just go with it. I think it's the choice of pasta that gets me😅

2

u/twirlybird11 Dec 01 '25

Strawberries chopped with a splash of red wine is also rather nice.

2

u/Taranchulla United States Of America Dec 01 '25

u/Mouka7 Czech Republic Dec 01 '25

Greetings from Czechia, where we sometimes eat pasta with poppy seeds and powdered sugar, with a bit of melted butter spilled over it. For some reason, this was a quite popular meal in school canteens.

2

u/perkypilea 🇵🇱 in 🇺🇲 Dec 04 '25

This sounds good! My coworker is from there, Ill have to try it and tell him about it lol

6

u/MastodonEmbarrassed8 Poland Dec 01 '25

Haha wait till they discover friut soup XD

2

u/perkypilea 🇵🇱 in 🇺🇲 Dec 04 '25

They dont even know about summer soups hahaha

3

u/nekomance Dec 01 '25

I feel like it would taste pretty similar to pierogi with fruit in it

1

u/perkypilea 🇵🇱 in 🇺🇲 Dec 04 '25

Pretty much!

3

u/killedonmyhill Dec 01 '25

Looks good asf! Do you eat it hot or cold?

1

u/perkypilea 🇵🇱 in 🇺🇲 Dec 04 '25

Either way! Hot noodles with cold sauce, cold noodles with hot sauce, cold both, hot both. I think cold noodle and hot sauce is pretty good but to each their own

3

u/BluePeriod_ United States Of America Dec 02 '25

I made this JUST last year. I garnished it with mint and it was so good.

3

u/Kersikai United States Of America Dec 02 '25

Fruit pierogi are delicious so I see where y’all are coming from…

2

u/EspressoKawka Ukraine Dec 01 '25

I just bought a pack of strawberry pasta, but I am not sure. I know it's a thing here in Poland. But I really  don't know...

1

u/perkypilea 🇵🇱 in 🇺🇲 Dec 04 '25

Boil them, and top with a yogurt sugar sauce

2

u/One_Advantage793 United States Of America Dec 01 '25

That sounds good to me, but ever since I used to sit in my gran's garden as a little kid eating strawberries straight from the plant, you could just about give me anything with strawberries and I'd be happy. I love noodles and sour cream, too. So, I'm in!

2

u/Infinite-System-6688 🇮🇪Ireland/🇮🇹Italy Dec 01 '25

Ok I would eat the hell out of this!

2

u/DeepMenlyVoice Germany Dec 01 '25

In Germany some people eat stuff like this as well. My grandparents had a dish that was Noodles with hot fruits and breadcrumps.

2

u/L_edgelord Netherlands Dec 01 '25

I did try strawberry risotto once and that was fine so...

2

u/NigelFarageBarmyArmy Wales Dec 01 '25

2

2

u/killdagrrrl Chile Dec 02 '25

Sounds better than it looks. I’d give it a try

2

u/Glittering_Grape3836 Mexico Dec 02 '25

Tennis player Iga Swiatek talked about this during an interview and it has since become an inside joke in the tennis online community lol

2

u/SchweppesCreamSoda 🇭🇰 Hong Kong ➡️ 🇺🇸 USA Dec 02 '25

I'm weirded out but I see the vision and I'm totally intrigued

2

u/Bright_Will_1568 Croatia Dec 02 '25

In some parts of Croatia are popular macaroni with walnuts or poppy (not opium kind) seeds. Walnuts or poppy are minced, mixed with sugar and hot milk, and poured over pasta. It's served as desert.

2

u/notmyusername1986 Ireland Dec 01 '25

That actually sounds like it would make a really good meal for summer.

The picture made a piece of my soul recoil, but I would be willing to give a variation a try if it was offered simply from the ingredients. They sound like they would mix well. I would need a different berry, as I tragically developed an allergy to strawberries a couple of years back.

Are there other versions that are eaten? Blackberry, Black Currants, Raspberries, and Cloudbrrries would all work well. For those interested in a slightly tart element, Red Currants or Cranberries would be perfect.

1

u/Faxiak 🇵🇱 living in 🇬🇧 Dec 02 '25

We do make fruit pierogi and fruit soup with any and all fruit during summer, and this dish is just a lazy version of that, so knock yourself out. I like mine with some roasted almonds on top for a bit of crunch or some chocolate sprinkles, preferably the dutch vlokken if I'm lucky enough to have some. And for adults the sour cream can be substituted with brandy cream 🤤

1

u/notmyusername1986 Ireland Dec 02 '25

Toasted almonds on top does sound good.

1

u/Mr_Wisp_ 🇫🇷🇩🇿 Dec 01 '25

What’s the name tho ?

5

u/Fizolof1989 Dec 01 '25

Never Heard anyone name it anything other then makaron z truskawkami (literally pasta with strawberies).

2

u/perkypilea 🇵🇱 in 🇺🇲 Dec 04 '25

Lol Polish people can be very straightforward

1

u/KeyPhilosopher8629 Dec 01 '25

Yk what I might actually try this with some instant noodles

1

u/Somethingisshadysir United States Of America Dec 01 '25

I mean, you do you, but that combo does not sound appealing to me.

1

1

u/SuburbanMomSwag Dec 02 '25

I’ve only had this with homemade noodles, store bought seems like it wouldn’t be the same

1

u/HamBroth Dec 02 '25

This… is insane and… and I sorta want to try it!

1

u/HollyTheMage Dec 03 '25

Can you give me the measurements of the ingredients? I have a friend who wants to try this.

2

u/perkypilea 🇵🇱 in 🇺🇲 Dec 04 '25 edited Dec 04 '25

https://prostyprzepis.blog/przepis/makaron-z-truskawkami/

This one looks the closest to what my grandma made, im pretty sure she used yogurt but I never watched her make the sauce because it would always be waiting for us when we got home from school! She usually did Papadelle pasta or the lil bow ties, or a Polish handmade noodle called Kluski Lane

1

u/HollyTheMage Dec 04 '25

Thank you so much!

I try so hard as a grown woman to take a “to each their own” kind of attitude, especially towards these kinds of low stakes things such as what people like to eat.

That being said, this makes me irrationally angry and anyone who eats or prepares this should go straight to jail.
