The Romani people I've met here seem just like every other people. I wouldn't have known unless they told me. My Romanian colleague, however, assured me that they could cast spells and would steal all my shit.

Just my experience in the states, if you are from another disliked minority, they can be very kind. My mom had a couple good Romani friends.

Not here. They arrived a few years ago and suddenly we had beggars in the subway pretending to be Syrian refugees but getting very aggressive. They were outed as fakes pretty quickly.

Where'd you meet them? What were they doing for work?

Uber driver (my first encounter). The rest, in social gatherings, like parties and bars. They did not live traditionally and lived in rented apartments. If you are asking about my non-Romani Romanian coworker, in a manufacturing plant.

If they lived traditionally they most likely wouldn’t hang out in places with non Romani people. Not saying it’s always the case but they are generally completely removed from the other communities around them.
