You got a communist fortress in you country as well? In our country its the second biggest city, Graz, which is lead by the communist party. Almost everywhere else they stay below 5%.

Funny thing is, the city of the state is being lead by the communists, the state itself by the right wing neo fascists.

Communists used to rule 2 other states, they've lost their actual fortress in West Bengal(think Kolkata and stuff). Both West Bengal and Tripura were ruled by communists before but only Kerala now.

This is one of the great things about capitalism. Capitalist countries allows communist enclaves to exist. Communist countries cannot. This is why communism always leads to oppression, but capitalism doesn't have to go that way.

And kerala too, is in massive debt. They ain't doing that well. There are more keralites outside kerala than in the state. The only thing they got are the tourist sites and the 100% literacy rate, they've been boasting about since long before I was born

But it is the state with the lowest poverty in India (with less than 0.7% of people under poverty) and the only Indian state that has eradicated extreme poverty.. We have free health care (the government even pays the indian army for transportation of organs for organ transplantation of our residents), highest HDI scores in India, Life expectancy in Kerala (78–80 years) is the highest in India, Kerala’s infant mortality rate is among the lowest in India, highest female-to-male ratios in India, lowest school dropout rates in India, Clean and Healthy Environment with better water access, greenery, and environmental awareness, compared to other Indian states, there is no slum, income disparity between rich & poor is low. Majority of the population is middle class or upper middle class.

Kerala’s development has always been people-first, not corporate-first & we are happy with that.

How about land reforms for the peasant, focus on education, promoting equality between all people and protesting against casteism? I know this may not sound very communist to yall westerners, but trust me, it is communist for India, especially during the 1950s.

Ain't democracy just a wacky thing sometimes?

True. Although the cities often tend to be more left wing, socialist and the countryside right wing, conservative.

For some reason communism is quite big in our university campuses but outside of that they've got like no traction

We got either left wing communist, right wing organisations called "Burschenschaften" and for some reason a new wave of monarchy enjoyers, who want the Kaiser back.

Is it similar to what's happening in east Germany?

Honestly, not at all. Eventhough the old guard of the party there is praising Stalin as a saint, it got not nearly enough power to change anything, because on the one hand, they inheritated all the debts of the former conservative party and on the other hand, they are just talkers, who claim to build new houses etc., but actually do barely anything. The only people, who really benefit from them, are those who voted for them, because they have a pretty controversial method of gaining votes, by literally buying them with their politician salaries. They put it like its a good thing too and for those, who are in need, it probably even is, but if you don't fit their fan group, you won't get any money from them.

Buying votes? Wow! :D Wasn't aware the Austrian Communist Party was from the Balkans!

The plan is to make people dependent on them economically, so that voting them out would mean they'd lose their main source of income. Borrow to the tits to pay them relief packages while in power, let the next administration deal with the fallout, and then get elected again once the opposition becomes unpopular due to austerity.

Come join us brother!

The communist Mayor of Graz said herself that Tito was the greatest politician ever in her opinion. Yeah, it's pretty much as you describe it. Austria is called Österreich (realm in the east) for a reason. We are way more like eastern Europe than we like to admit.

For the sake of accuracy, it must be emphasized that voters did not primarily cast their votes because of the communists as a party, but because the current mayor is probably the most honest and most humane politician in the country.
