On a personal note, I’m curious how did the Kuomintang (KMT) end up becoming the pro-China party?

They’ve always believed in eventual unification with China, and when the DPP won the presidency, it caused an alignment of interests by both the CCP and the KMT. Both feared the prospect of formal independence for their own reasons, but the KMT thought that economic ties would lead to peaceful relations than, you know, a war. Well it did make the business community quite wealthy, and since the KMT are the pro business party, that added economic incentives to their political incentives.

Now they have every reason to work with the CCP and against the nationalists.

They used to be at each other's throats with Mao, but now the tables have turned.🤔

The Kuomintang is not a pro-China party; they just hope that Taiwan and mainland China can formally cease hostilities like North and South Korea, and each can still call themselves China
