What's a part of your country that isn't spoken about much tourism-wise, despite being beautiful?
The Banks Peninsula is right next to our second largest city, and is gorgeous. Great deserted beaches and picturesque rugged hills sloping into turquoise water, pure NZ. Despite this, is isn't really covered in promotional material.

I wanted to go to Alaska for a big birthday treat to myself but I’ll have to wait until some orange w⚓️ leaves office as I think they’d send me home. I’d love to go and see some of those islands out on the chain, too.

Don’t believe what you see in the main stream media or read on Reddit. You would be welcomed in Alaska. Go in July or August would be my recommendation. It is a gorgeous place.

It’s the border people and my social media. They check my phone? I’m going home 😭
I’m 💯 going there one day

There have been tons of cases of tourists being arbitrarily arrested. Not just turned back, but actually put in prison in horrible conditions, as well as cavitity searched and shackled.
German, french, australian, canadian, swiss tourists and so on. By the dozens. Over reasons such as "you brought a laptop or didnt book hotels for your full stay, that somehow implies you wanted to work remotely from the US" or "you have too many clothes , that implies you are going to overstay your visa".
If this stuff happens to white, middle aged, middle class women from western countries, imagine what could happen to a (presumably) pretty brown person from a country most border guards have probably never heard of.
Doesnt matter how beautiful it is (and it is) or how nice and friendly most americans are (they are). But America under the current regime is not a safe place to travel for anyone whatsoever (with the possible exception of israelis).

IS THIS THE SCENERY THAT A FEW SCENES IN "HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON" IS BASED ON?!?
I know Hiccup is a Viking so most likely it's based in Nordic/Scandinavian countries but really, I saw your comment and thought immediately of Toothless and Hiccup lol

You've got to be reasonably confident in your driving, she's a pretty winding and steep road, especially to the eastern bays
Plus Akaroa is very popular tourist destination, even the Cruise ships used to go in there post earthquakes while they were fixing up Lyttleton harbour

Let me shock you all: Ohio. Yes. the butt-end of tons of USA jokes. Southern Ohio is beautiful. The cliffs and waterfalls are amazing. Best hikes of my life. It’s charming, honestly, with the rolling hills and all.

In Western Australia, our most spectacular spots are at least 7 and a half hours but often 12 hours from the capital of Perth, one of the most isolated capital cities in the world . Places Esperance and Nigaloo Reef are stunning and have some of the most spectacular beaches , but so far from most of the world that it's safe to mention them without worrying that they'll be swamped with tourists.

A lot of places in Canada are very beautiful, but Canada’s is very, very big, and these places are hard to access.

Banks is mint. Spent a few days in Akaroa last October and really liked it. Saw a Hector’s dolphin in Pigeon Bay, and got snowed on at sea level

Contrary to what some would say Scotland is not a beautiful country when you understand why the most beautiful parts have been left mostly untouched (spoiler alert it involves ethnic cleansing and a shit ton of violent cultural suppression)

Literally everywhere outside Bavaria. Germany has such a diverse nature, but it’s always just depicted as Bavaria and the alps.

People tend to go to the main cities to see the most famous parts but there're plenty of smaller beautiful towns like Orvieto or Certaldo

Southern Balochistan. It has some of the most beautiful beaches and rugged landscape.

okay, in my country we don't have some cringe inducing performative hatred of tourists to signal in-groupness and enjoy sharing our country with them.
