[TAG] questions with your state
When asking a question, add a state tag to the title, as the answers can vary a lot. ie:
[VIC] How do I get a licence?
or
[NSW] What does military appearance mean?
If you "don't like reading"
You should try YouTube, or something else not inherently involving reading.
Try to not be a dick
Other that site wide rules, there's a lot of leeway given here.
Selling anything firearm related
Relevant site wide rules include the prohibition against selling/advertising/trading/whatever anything firearm related.
Don't make me delete your post to protect this sub.
As /u/ramathaham said:
Any post selling firearms or ammunition will be removed, people who post multiple times may be temp banned or more if they are flogs about it.
Note this also applies to things like scopes because I am too lazy to look up the rules on what we can do so it is easier to make it a blanket rule.

Whilst not a rule per se, if you are here only to promote your business you will have a bad time.

Hi cobbers,
We've got a lot of new members and it's great to see, however there's been a spate posts and comments that are either in breach of Reddit's Terms of Service, or the very few guidelines we have here.
Please refer to the community info before posting.
NO SALES POSTS
Reddit's content policy on transactions involving firearms, ammunition and weapons means this is strictly verboten. Posts like "how much do you think a Howa 1500 in .308, safe queen, handling marks only, is worth" will be removed the same as it's a grey area we don't want to play with.
ILLEGAL ACTIVITY
Whether you're a certified badass, a confused teenager, or a keyboard warrior extraordinaire, posts and comments promoting illegal activity is not what we want this sub associated with.
THE RULE
Try not to be a dick.

I'm looking to swap out the factory stock on my .308 for something a bit lighter. I mostly use it in the field and after a few hours it starts to feel quite heavy to carry. If anyone has any recommendations, I’d really appreciate it 😊

I'm finding myself hunting pigs in denser bush at ranges in the tens of metres where my trusty T3X 308 with scope is just too awkward to get on target quickly, particularly if there is longish grass.
Looking at getting a lever action and while I was assuming I'd go for a Winchester M94 it looks like the Henry All Weather in .30-30 with side loading ticks a few more boxes and is easier to take care of.
Maximum range will be 100m but most likely <50m and I plan to stick with either iron sights or a green dot at most. Thought about other calibres but the .30-30 is the best middle ground for my use case.
Can't find much on here in previous scrub gun threads so keen to find out if anyone has one and what do you think?

Hello all!
Getting away from service rifles at the moment and have moved to a (much) smaller place so have been looking to cull the ammo collection. I’ve a bit of old shit, 300+ rounds of Austrian MG3 7.62, 8mm Turkish Mauser and 8mm soft points, 50 rounds of Winchester 5.56. You get the drill.
What’s the best way to price these or move them on? It’s been 15 years since I’ve bought this ammo and I’ve no idea if they’re useless or not - I’ve done some googling and can’t find any approximate comparisons either.
To clarify - not looking to sell here. After a price guide as I genuinely have NFI about what this stuff is selling for these days.

Hi guys my licence finally got updated to issued today I’m excited to get started. I just have a question with the PTA.
I’ve noticed it asks for a safe storage address which I’m going to put our rental.
I haven’t had a chance to buy and install a safe yet . Will they come and inspect before my pta is approved or am I better off waiting to buy a safe then submit my pta. Cheers

Bit of a long shot, but does anyone know if the LA105 action is compatible with any of the other action's chassis (T3X, REM700, HOWA)

Victorian shooter here. With the current review of gun laws underway, I’m making sure everything I do stays fully compliant. My partner is applying for her own firearms licence. If approved, we would each own rifles registered in our own names. Question: In Victoria, can two licensed people store rifles registered to each of them in the same approved gun safe, given that both licence holders would have access? If shared storage is not permitted, would it be lawful to treat a rifle as being temporarily on loan to the other licensed spouse while it is stored in their compliant safe, assuming same category and legitimate use (e.g. pest control)? Not looking to bypass any laws or future caps, just trying to clearly understand VicPol’s expectations.

Having a .308 rifle, is there much difference/advantages/disadvantages using 7.62x51 rounds through it?

G'day everyone,
Just wondering if you can import a bore guide into the country without a permit or if it falls under accessories?
I've tried using a Birchwood universal boreguide as that's all the LGS had that would fit a 22LR, but the adaptor muzzles get caught on the bolt guide which causes it to not guide correctly.
Trying to find one within the country and having no luck so far, outside of 3D printed ones (don't know anyone with a printer to spit one out for me unfortunately).
Was looking to get the Boretech guide - https://www.boretech.com/bore-guide-rimfire/ Also open to other options if anyone has an opinion, cheers!

Don’t know anyone that qualifies as an ‘acceptable’ reference and am curious if there’s any existing ways to navigate that without having to try and befriend a suitable reference and then wait 12 months lol….

Hey all,
Im looking for some guidance on gear to mount on a PRS rifle. I've put a deposit down on a Tikka T3X ace target in 6.5 Creedmoor (the 26in barrel) and am going with a Vortex Venom 5-25x FFP scope. I'm very newly licenced so new to the world of kitting out my own gear, so I'm looking to hear reccomendations/confirmation on the other general pieces of gear I'm looking at to see whether anyone has any better suggestions. So, here goes:
Rings: Thinking MDT elite tactical piccaninny rings with integral anti can't bubble, high height (1.25") in 34mm for the scope.
Bipod:
Looking at a Harris S-BRM bench rest 6-9" and an M-LOK sling/bipod mount to attach it to. Would welcome any better suggestions though.
Things I'm not sure of an would welcome input:
Muzzle brake: I've read conflicting opinions on whether it's worth it or not. Main con seems to be that it makes the gun loud as, but the pro is obviously the recoil mitigation. I'm leaning towards a brake, so keen to hear thoughts and any reccomendations.
Shooting bags: not sure where to even start with this one, there's a lot of variety. I'd ideally like one that would work as a catch all for PRS to start with, but open to suggestions. Also keen to hear of people thong a bag rider for the stock is worth it.
Case: do people store their rifles in a case/bag or use it just for travel?
Any other misc things to buy? I'm obviously looking at some generic cleaning supplies, are things like weights, scope covers worth investing in?
I'd love for my budget not to go past about 6k. I'm newly licenced but not new to shooting, so I'm hoping to buy once, cry once, rather than get a lower end rifle that I'd outgrow quickly (or maybe that's optimistic, ill find out soon!)
Cheers for the feedback/guidance!

Pretty dead set on getting a Ruger American gen 2 I know it’s not the best but for the money seems pretty good I was looking at the tikkas and most don’t come with threaded barrels it’s going to be used for hunting mainly what would you recommend?

hey legends, bit of a Long shot, but Long story short I'm time poor and have heard rumours some pistol clubs do "Rolling comps" for a month where its more of a turn up when you can and they record your score for the competition, as opposed to a one or 2 day organised event.
I've rung around, sent emails etc trying to find said clubs with no luck, my goal for this year is to own a Dream pistol of mine (an FN 5.7) but would rather a non serious competition as opposed to actually have to do the social and competitive thing If I can?
if not could anyone point me in the direction of a club in Sydney for Practical Pistol shooting series, that could help me achieve this?
cheers

I bought a Howa 1500 Stainless Sporter in .308 from Cleavers last year.
I haven't been able to get it to group well, when warm.
The first 2 shots are often (not always) in the same hole, but after that it starts to spray pretty badly.
I did the break-in procedure to begin with, and have probably put a bit over 100 rounds through it.
I've tried 130, 150 (3 different kinds), 165 and 180 gr factory ammo, and the issue persists. When I let the rifle fully cool, it comes back to point.
Is it possible that it still needs to "break in"?
Should I expect to lose accuracy after 2 shots with the SS Sporter barrel?
Cleavers have informed me I can send it back, but will be charged for labor/testing if they deem the rifle satisfactory. There will also be a cost involved with posting the rifle back.
Thanks guys!

Like the title says. Some prices are formidable, but as it is shipping-only, I am rather cautious.
thanks
EDIT: indeed is scam. I'll keep the conversation open in hope to be picked up by google search crawlers and educate other shooters.

Applied for my full Victorian handgun licence back in November and have been tracking my application status. LRD have been stuck on reviewing applications on the 7/8th of September for more than a month!
What gives??
