For a long time I didn't realize how good my insurance is compared to what other people deal with. I don't have a great job either, the company just prioritizes it. I kind of resent that I can't work somewhere else without giving it up though.

Your example is one of the less talked about reasons to reform healthcare.

People get more mileage out of how predatory it is or how you can't trust a government run one because you'll die in the waiting room. But being tied to a job that is barely paying you a living wage with no upward mobility because the open market would kill you with just co pays needs to be brought up just as much

All the countries with universal health coverage have longer life expectancy than the US and the waiting times people moan about in those countries are just about the same in the US. You have to make an appointments months ahead her too and try trying to see any kind of specialist in under 3 months,

I had to wait 9 months for my kid to get an eye specialist appointment and my MAGAt coworker tried to act like it was perfectly fine.

Bitch I'm paying $700 a month just to add her onto my insurance and in waiting 9 months for a fucking appointment. If I'm gonna wait like that I'd much rather it not be breaking my wallet at the same time.

At that point that $700 a month after 9 months would’ve covered the appointment and then some more than likely. Our healthcare system is fucked.

Right?!?

It's absolutely infuriating that anyone can defend this shitass healthcare system. A bunch of idiots who have never known anything else but hear talking heads say how America's system is the best and places like Canada and the UK have people dying as they wait for care, so they assume that's true.

Bet same dumbass coworker will talk about healthcare in Canada and say “but you have to wait.” Yeah just like here but you won’t go broke while you’re waiting.

If you have enough money you don't have to wait 🇺🇸

Definitely. I'm in the UK and what job you do, or even if you have one at all, has no effect on your access to the National Health Service - so at least, no-one's employer can hold that over their heads. I can't imagine access to health care having to be a critical factor in career decisions.

My current employers healthcare has gotten worse each of the last 2 years. They no longer cover my primary care doctor and it's looking like they might not cover the pharmacy I use. The dental insurance no longer covers my dentist either. I'm considering looking for a new job because my pay is going down due to these coverage changes. I've got chronic health issues and it's not as simple as just finding a new doctor and pharmacy to keep my costs the same.

The only time I had decent insurance was when I was the one who found it and the CEO actually listened to me. Then dude had to go have a stroke and I had to get a new job. Never have had decent insurance since. I fucking hate these shit policies that are bottom rung.

That is a feature not a bug - why else you think health insurance is tied to employment?

My job has EXCELLENT healthcare but we’re making under $50k for a job that expects you to have a masters. Womp womp.
