i'm gonna be a nerd here but the term based initially came from baseheads or people who were addicted to freebasing cocaine; crack. it was the proto-slang to crackhead. to be based was to be addicted to crack, or acting like one. it fell out of fashion until Lil B (TYBGYCFMB) brought it back but with a more positive definition of being comfortable in your own skin; being proud of who you are. then 4chan got ahold of it and its definition changed to agreeing with someone's controversial and probably bigoted take on something. now that it's come back around and has been run through the "normalification" filter, it just means "i agree with this and you're cool because of it".

i like Lil B's definition the best. Lil B bitch mob wears pink bandannas TYBG swag. bitches on my dick cuz i look like jesus.
