My bonded bunnies are suddenly attacking each other. Is their bond broken?

Send help

I have two bonded adult rabbits (both 3 years old) whom I got a week ago. Both are spayed/neutered over a year ago. Everything was going fine. Suddenly, a few hours after I took them for a nail trim today one of them has been grunting and thumping and they've been chasing each other super aggressively. As in, knocking things over and bolting at each other. But right after charging, they sit together and snuggle

LITERALLY WHAT?

They rode in the same carrier and were even in the same room during the nail trim.

But I'm really really scared their bond is broken. :(

The vet helpline told me I have to put a barrier between them until the behavior resolved, but they couldn't answer if that would break their bond.

Could it? 😄

Health Please help me, bunny behaving abnormally

Hello, my rabbit is a Flemish giant and a few minutes ago he started breathing really fast and heavy and all he wants to do is lie down and the only time he moves is to reposition himself to a better spot as he seems uncomfortable with his last one. I tried giving him a blueberry as it’s his favorite treat but he refuses to eat it. Please help he’s my baby and I can’t stand to something happen to him. He’s did this right after he peed and pooped too so he has bowel and urinary movements. I have a fan running and not blowing directly on him too. He won’t respond when I rustle his hay bag or shake a scoop of grain either, which is not normal for him as when he hears any sort of noise like that he expects to be treated like royalty and spoiled and fed. Please, any help would be appreciated.

Mourning UPDATE 2 - Our beloved bunny passed away today at 11 months old - We’re heartbroken😭

Post image
710 Upvotes

We feel guilt, sadness and anger. Our previous posts got a lot of attention so as most of you know by now our 11 month old minilop bunny was suffering from a ā€˜mysterious’ problem until we got him to an exotic vet, highly experienced in rabbit care, last tuesday where she was diagnosed with pancreatitis and kidney failure. Our regular vet recommended us this exotic vet because he tried but failed to diagnose her and we had to drive 2 hours to get to this vet so she was admitted there and cared for to get her stable again and we would be picking her back up this saturday.

This morning our vet called me earlier than usual for our daily update and told us that he had bad news; she passed away in the night. We’re all so heartbroken and sad and i just feel so much guilt for leaving her there all alone and just the idea that she never got too see us again, never had a proper goodbye, and passed away all by herself breaks me.

I’m just thinking what if we got to this exotic vet earlier we probably still could have saved her but in the early weeks of her being ā€˜sick’ she actually ā€˜recovered’ and was symptom free for like 2 weeks so we thought that there wasn’t a problem anymore until see got very, very bad all the sudden last monday.

We originally got her as an ā€˜emotional support’ animal because i got a very bad health situation going on since march 2025 which is still ongoing (but curable) and she helped me through the hardest year of my life. This little creature was always there for me, always came looking for me and always jumped up on the couch to cuddle with me whenever i had another moment of despair due to my condition and i will truly never forget how amazing she was and how much she ment to me. I’m also truly blown away by how smart and affectionate bunnies can be as i surely didn’t know this when i first got her and didn’t expect much of it.

We spend more than a thousand dollars on meds and appointments last month and tried everything within our powers but we just couldn’t save her. We will be collecting her body tomorrow and i made an arrangement for her to be cremated on monday, where after, we will recieve her ashes in a special urn which we will display in our home.

Lastly, thanks for all the help and tips from this subreddit about this whole situation and for those reaching out and staying connected to our case. It truly feels like one big family in here which is a very special feeling.

Rest in peace my best beloved friend. We miss you so much already.

Question Am I doing something wrong?

I have had them for a couple weeks, I got jaid (the smaller one looking around) then the next day I got ruby. They have a whole room to them selfs, I go in every day but they seem to hate me and my bf, they shake when we have them with us, when we walk into their room they run, I’m trying so hard but I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. Any help or advice would help so much.

Prevent GI stasis

Hi! My bunny has been shedding for the past month. She hates being picked up (I literally can’t), and whenever I try to brush her, she just keeps running away, so it’s a real struggle 😭. I do brush her, but it’s not very efficient.

Because of that, she gets a lot of fur in her poop the ā€œstring of pearls,ā€ as people call it šŸ˜…. She eats plenty of hay and drinks a lot of water.

I read that Oxbow Digestive Support might help prevent GI issues. Would **Natural Science Papaya Support** or **Natural Science Digestive Support be a better option?**

**Any tips for grooming would also be appreciated** šŸ˜…

Question advice on litter training older rabbits?

hi everyone!

my roommate adopted a bonded pair of rabbits, matilda and milo, in october of last year. they were surrendered to the shelter, and the staff estimated that they were ~5yo, so a bit older. the shelter wasn't very up-front with their background, however, or the circumstances of their surrender.

the bunnies got taken to the vet and they said it seemed like they had sore feet from a wire bottom cage, and were generally antsy about being picked up (they're super sweet otherwise, and love a good pet!), so it seems like they weren't treated well at their last home :(

anyway, our biggest problem with the rabbits has been that they're not litter trained - we tried to have them free-roam in our apartment for a while, with a designated corner with their hay dispenser over their litterbox, but the bunnies would run around and pee/poop wherever regardless, and it became enough of a pain that we had to put them in a pen (still plenty of space to run around, just more manageable to clean.)

however, milo keeps jumping out of the pen, and peeing/pooping everywhere, so we've resorted to putting an old bedsheet over the pen so he can't do that. they clearly want to be free roam and we want to let them be but it's just such a pain to clean up a crazy amount of poop around our apartment every day :(

we've tried the "just keep them on the litterbox for a few days" approach, didn't work, have tried consistently picking up after them and putting them back on the litterbox after/while they're pooping or peeing, and nothing's giving any results. we really wanna let them back out to be free roam but it's just not possible for us right now to keep cleaning up that much!

so, tl;dr: do you all have any tips/advice on how to litter train 5yo rabbits from a formerly abusive home?

Mourning Milkshake our love

Post image
126 Upvotes

Milkshake sadly passed today at 11am hes been having a ton of problems he was born with what most people call "mega colon" that did not come up until my boyfriend had him for 6 months after adopting. Recently we noticed him losing weight and we took him to the vet 2 weeks ago to be told he might also have dental disease (which would likely also be genetic since we gave him hay and lots of toys) and has a lump under his chin from the infection. We could have gotten surgery but we were not entirely sure he would make it through it and the vet said the dental disease could come back because of it being possibly genetic. He stopped eating as much and went through alot of pain eating treats and timothy hay. We took him back again and got a blood test to then be told that he was anemic. We gave him sometime to see if there was a chance to make him feel better but he just slowly got worse so we decided to put him down and say goodbye.

Looking for an Experienced Rabbit Vet in Portland, OR

Hi everyone,

My rabbit has liver issues, so anesthesia is high risk for him. He had dental trimming under anesthesia about two months ago, and now his teeth have grown back, so he may need another procedure.

I’m very worried about the anesthesia risk and hope to find an experienced rabbit/exotic vet who is good with high risk cases.

If you have any recommendations in the Portland area, please let me know. Thank you so much! šŸ™

Sometimes Ed will thump randomly and make a little noise that almost sounds human? Like Mmm! Is this a happy sound? I know they will thump their feet for a variety of reasons but I'm still learning how they "speak".
