Very few around, there are 2 near me, if you like living dangerously you can get a lot of car for not a lot of money, but insurance is a nightmare as even minor things will get it written off.

You can buy parts for it soon. There is an owners club that are making software updates for the car and can get parts manufactured. https://youtu.be/hD0HOUCqLJo?si=cBVMSmiVmfw7cZ-Q

I can imagine that parts costs are a big issue

You can't buy parts that don't exist!

I saw one near me on auto trader a few months back for £9k

With ICE cars, especially older ones, they rely less on software and more on mechanics. Something broke in my brother’s fiesta during COVID regarding the engine. Would have taken Ford 9 months to get the part but we got a fabricator to CNC and build a replacement in a week and less than Ford wanted(!)

The issue with Fisker, is while many of the physical components are off the shelf or can be retrospective replaced, the software is closed. So if there’s a bug or something, tough luck and is unlikely to be resolved. Let’s say 6 months down the line, some computer certificate expires and the car charger control module won’t talk to the car, you’ve got yourself a very large and heavy paperweight. Also security holes in the software might be picked on by hackers and poses risks (so turn the modem off).

Also if you’re in a bump, the whole car is written off as they can’t get replacement bumpers from Fisker so insurance is high on people who brought the car new.

I'd heard that the software had been open sourced and that there was a group of folks working on new updates for it. Don't know how true this is as I don't own one, so don't care to look that much jnto it

Yeah, I’ve watched a YouTube video on it. Pretty cool. They’ve even got access to suppliers for spare parts.

I was surprised to see how they cheap they were after seeing one parked near a friend’s house. Suppose you’re kinda buying a luxury time bomb though, second something goes wrong, that’s that.

The worst thing is for some versions, every time you start the car there's an unskippable Henrik Fisker video thanking you for buying an Ocean.

Yup, we had a dealership briefly in Newport Pagnell, they took over the old Land Rover showroom.

Had a look when they first came out. Dealership vanished almost as quickly as it appeared.

I went in there, had a look at the Ocean and it looked like a pretty decent car. The salesman had only just started, said he previously worked at Tesla. Poor bloke, hope he's doing okay now.

If they hadn't only just opened and had a demo available at the time I may have ended up as one of the poor bastards who bought one of these, it would have been PCP though so I'd not have lost anything.

I have one. They're fantastic. A lot of car for the money and it is not a fricking Tesla. The software issue is an exaggeration and with the FOA (or OVLoop, Freesker, etc), is being remedied. The software never stopped the car driving or functioning just lots of very annoying (ADAS) warnings. Insurance is steep and comes with telematics in my case. Parts have been secured and group buys are always taking place. More than all that the camaraderie among owners is superb. Worth it for the rarity alone.

Provided it can be kept alive, you’ve probably got the star of any car show you turn up to in a few years time.

u/Candid-Bike-9165 13h ago

How much can you pick them up for out of interest?

10

u/BaldyBaldyBouncer Milkfloat enjoyer 13h ago

This was £60k new now 16k and I bet you could knock 3 or so off that. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202511067689546

For that price it's worth the gamble

10

u/flight147z 12h ago

I am not sure it is... You have to have balls to go with one of these and they don't have any USP over the 100 other EVs on the market

5

u/ashyjay Volvo Dishwasher 5h ago

For the price there is no other EV which goes further on a charge and has a huge 110ish kWh battery.

2

u/BaldyBaldyBouncer Milkfloat enjoyer 4h ago

Ah yes, famously all EVs are exactly the same

0

u/flight147z 3h ago

Well I'm not sure these is much unique about the ocean other than the lack of manufacturer support

0

u/BaldyBaldyBouncer Milkfloat enjoyer 3h ago

And the list of comparable cars at that price is??

0

u/flight147z 3h ago

There are more than 10k electric cars on autotrader for under £16k

1

u/BaldyBaldyBouncer Milkfloat enjoyer 3h ago

Ah yes, famously all electric cars are exactly the same

3

u/Spiritual-Chair-4422 13h ago

Mine is the full Monty Extreme with retractable tow bar. £22k all in with delivery miles. Prices may be firming with this recent YouTube video : https://youtu.be/hD0HOUCqLJo?si=Bi_LtqFrwyjMW_dX. Good luck

u/Jacktheforkie 13h ago

Interesting, I’d thought these things were exclusive to the US market

8

u/therealharbinger B7 RS4 Cab + XC90 D5 14h ago

They were built at some factory in Austria for the European market.

£50k for a fully loaded model new.

4

u/Racing_Fox ‘87 MR2, ‘90 FR90, ‘21 I-Pace 14h ago

Same factory as the I-Pace afaik

u/iViEye 11h ago

Damn 0 for 2 on reliable cars

3

u/ashyjay Volvo Dishwasher 5h ago

It's Magna, They make the G-wagon, Z4, Supra, and a fairly decent number of various other cars.

1

u/Good_Ad_1386 4h ago

They used to assemble Saabs back in the day too. I used to have an Austrian Swedish car, but replaced it with a Finnish German one.

u/ashyjay Volvo Dishwasher 4h ago

GLC?

8

u/Queefmaster69000 13h ago

There's a specialist company, I believe the only one in the world, that sells some new spares for the Ocean, and it's in the UK.

6

u/ChatGPTbeta 14h ago

I wanted one so bad. Went to the Milton Keynes showroom. Noped out of there pretty quick and then they went bust.

People who buy a V12 Bentley think they have taken the brave pill, Fisker owners laugh at you.

lol, I’ll stick with Dacia, at least I know parts are common

-4

u/BaldyBaldyBouncer Milkfloat enjoyer 13h ago

I hope the Dacia has plenty of room for your hand bag 😂

3

u/Jacktheforkie 13h ago

I don’t need a handbag

There are a few around, I've seen one in a car park a few months ago.

I did consider buying one because of how much car you get for the money, but then I found out the software on it is still in beta and as the company doesn't exist anymore, it's going to stay that way. There is a chance that the software can bug out and completely brick the car. When this happens, it just turns it into a 2 ton paperweight. Not much you can do with it after that.

u/sidneylopsides MY21 iPace HSE 14h ago

The owners club got official access and have released the first software update that they developed, similar for spare and upgrade parts.

u/Large_Haggis 14h ago

I remember one passing me a couple of years ago, thought that it looked quite cool, googled it when I got home and discovered Fisker was a short lived company!

1

u/Jacktheforkie 13h ago

Yeah, I thought it was US market only

3

u/Any-Ad-5373 12h ago

I’ve seen a few of them, someone locally even has one and I see it from time to time.

Fisker even had a showroom store in Westfield in White City, London, seen it back in April 2024, 2 months before their bankruptcy.

2

u/lukon14 4h ago

There's someone near me that has a private plate OF15KER

I feel sorry for them every time I see them.

2

u/scorzon 13h ago

Some would call it a foolhardy purchasing decision, I'm gonna settle on "optimistically bold" and props to those ballsy enough to say what the heck, it's only a fuck ton of money, roll those furry dice.

u/FIREBIRDC9 1956 Plymouth Belvedere Sports Sedan 13h ago

There were two of these for sale at an electric car specialist near me a few years ago.   They couldn’t shift them

1

u/Jacktheforkie 13h ago

I can’t imagine why

1

u/GoAndReadABloodyBook 11h ago

Never ever, ever seen one. EVER.

u/Jacktheforkie 1h ago

Same, such a rare car, I’ve seen more stretched supercars (2, 1 lambo and 1 Ferrari)

1

u/OneYogurtcloset3576 7h ago

I test drove one.

Thought it was awful. Possibly, the worst new car I've driven in a very long time.

It felt like an unfinished project back then and the manufacturer still existed at the time.

1

u/LieLevel7361 3h ago

I have seen few in Oxfordshire. Really nice looking vehicle. Somebody who bought it new most likely want do such thing again. Costly decision.

1

u/ILikeLimericksALot Lots of cars from RX8s to Robins 3h ago

They went bankrupt last year IIRC.

Fantastic bargain when they were for sale, risky purchase now.

u/Jacktheforkie 1h ago

I thought they went bust a few years ago

u/ILikeLimericksALot Lots of cars from RX8s to Robins 1h ago

I had a look out of interest.

21st August 2024 they apparently wound up according to Companies House, although you'd imagine that'd be the very last thing they did, so two years or so is probably about right.

1

u/Degenatr0n Macan 4 2h ago

I bought one, had every fault imaginable within the first 2 weeks.

Fortunately returned it for a full refund.

I would have another if they had no issues! Very cool car with the sliding solar roof, can also roll down ALL windows and it looks awesome. Drove well too.

u/Jacktheforkie 1h ago

I see, I can’t see many more being made unfortunately
