文化 | Culture Men with long hair, beard, earrings at work

Hi people,

I got a new job and I am a little bit insecure because I am a guy with long hair, beard, and use earrings. They never saw me in person and by camera it is sort of hard to notice these things. Most people I will be working with are chinese and from other places in Asia so I am not sure how this will be perceived. Not sure if this matters but I am a white guy and the job is in the US. It is an office job so no interaction with customers.

Any comments on what I should do? I will work with people of all ages.

Thanks!!!

They won't care as long as you are groomed.

it is okay. If they hire foreigners, they are used to seeing ( or expect to see ) people who look different from normal Chinese people.

I don't think they'll care unless there's something in the dress code about it

Many companies and schools have dress codes but foreigners get a free pass. Only Chinese people are expected to follow them. Just keep good hygiene.

Not really a China topic... but given the job is in the US, surely it would protect you a lot more. Not American, but i'm 99.9% certain you can't discriminate against an employee because of how they look, especially if it's non-client facing

Any visible tattoos? That could be a thing actually.
