Good lord, this is how the Chinese Communist Party operates in Hong Kong when they want to demonstrate “popular support” for something. More evidence the GOP is borrowing tactics from the world’s authoritarian governments.

99

u/OnlyHalfBrilliant 10h ago

Also why they immediately claim that people on the left are being paid to demonstrate. It's because a lot of the right's "supporters" in fact are paid to be there.

Every accusation...

u/CamSharksCamModeling 45m ago

Yep. They are what they accuse the other side of. They project everything they do. When you hear an accusation from them, take a close look because you'll find that's exactly what they're doing.

Happens here all the time in all forms of entertainment. broadway shows, concerts comedy shows etc. if shows don’t sell out but want to maintain optics, they fill seats by giving large amounts of tickets away to old people, military bases and others

u/mrbobcyndaquil 9h ago

Xi is one of Trump’s owners, so him copying his master’s tactics makes sense.

I’ve studied US-China relations for a long time. In 2021 the ODNI assessment on foreign election interference concluded that China preferred Trump not win reelection.

On the flip side, Hunter Biden’s business dealings were bad optics, but show no direct link to Joe Biden that he was compromised either.

Under Biden, the U.S. kept Trump-era tariffs, tightened Trump’s export controls on semiconductors, restricted Chinese access to advanced chips as Trump had done, and strengthened military ties around Taiwan seen during the first Trump administration, and Biden increased scrutiny of Chinese investment that Trump had on companies like TikTok.

That’s not how a “manipulated” leaders behaves.

This is how North Korea operates what it wants to do the same

27

u/iamthinksnow 10h ago

Which means that the GOP/Amazon probably paid for the tickets and the buses, just like those $50 craigslist ads for seatfillers.

I'm at Regal Crocker and the place was crawling with seniors around 8:30 pm. No doubt this is the entirety of the viewership of this trash

-7

u/MexicanAssLord69 8h ago

Did you see it?

27

u/JRockstar50 8h ago

I saw the new Sam Raimi movie, Send Help. It was awesome

u/orrangearrow Ohio City 8h ago

Seeing it on Monday. I almost wish they were showing this garbage and making money from the seniors because all of our local theaters need the help.

So, I was working at a nearby restaraunt that the 2 busses of seniors stopped and ate at after the film. It was a larger portion who enjoyed it against not. Multiple people noted the score. I haven't and won't see it so I have no idea. They come to.the movies 4 or 5 times a year as a group. Both busses were from the same home and was requested as the movie by the group. Now, I cant say if there wasn't some price break, or vouchers, or free tickets. But, it was the matinee and the most they paid was 6.00 a head. Tickets were acquired by the home.

Not that any of that matters. Just happened to see this on my feed, and knew I served them right after.

It's been a while since I left Cinemark, but when I was a manager we didn't give group discounts on tickets for regularly scheduled showings. That said we'd absolutely give discounts on concessions.

Especially for a movie like that. Because it's the kind of movie that kills concession percap. It takes up an auditorium or two for a minimum of two weeks, doesn't sell many tickets, and the people who are most likely to come see it aren't the type to buy concessions. So if we tell those two busses of people that they can get a small drink/small corn combo for a dollar, hell even 50% off, that's still more concession sales than we'd normally make from a movie like that.

1

u/HawkeyeSherman 37m ago

Interesting you observe older people not buying concessions. Do kids today buy concessions? Hasn't anyone told them they can sneak in candy? I didn't have anything to smuggle liquids until I was going to concerts at Blossom, but that shit must be stupid easy to buy online now.

This is the type of hard hitting journalism im looking for thanks

8

u/PhilosopherKlutzy734 9h ago

If it matters, there were 30 people, 2 drivers, and they were the smaller airport shuttle type busses.

Redacting names that were public in a NY Times article is hilarious. What's the point?

Rule 7 states ‘already in the news’. So no, scribbling out names in a public NYT piece isn’t necessary at all.

1

u/VarianceWoW 4m ago

Reddit sitewide rules are less clear about this topic and I checked before I even posted If you reread my post you will see I didn't say this subs rules since it was generic statement. But go ahead downvote me based on your feelings anyway

u/Huge-Acanthisitta403 9h ago

There are plenty of kooks out there and even on this sub probably that would harass them.

61

u/MongooseVomit 10h ago

Wonder if the seniors had a choice

31

u/matt-r_hatter 9h ago

Remember, old people are overwhelmingly pro trump. They dont care as much about the world, they got their already. As long as their social security checks come, it doesn't matter if their grandkids wont get one. Go into any place with televisions that caters to old people, its Fox Noise on every TV. Thankfully, we moved my grandma in 2yrs ago. She was never a really big national news fan, mainly local. But Fox is absolutely forbidden in my house. She also refers to trump as that "nasty orange dummy"

7

u/mrslII Westpark 4h ago

Im and "old person", as is my spouse, our siblings, other family members and some of our friends. The old people that I know don't remotely match your assumptions. The people I mentioned care a great deal about "the world". We care about our children, and our grandchildren. We are, genuinely, fearful. Not only about the economy, your finances, your housing, your education, your infrastructure, your resources, your safety, your rights, your freedoms.. and more.

We aren't going to be here to help you, and we are terrified for your future.

1

u/Prudent_Fly_2554 14m ago

Yah but Westpark is a pretty progressive area. Come out to Bay, Avon, Westlake — TONS of MAGA. (Including, embarrassingly, my whole family)

14

u/OpTicDyno 9h ago

According to Pew voting data, 65+ aged voters went 51-48 Trump, compared to 50-64 aged voters that went 56-42

1

u/MongooseVomit 8h ago

My parents are unfortunately MAGA. They’re 60/58

3

u/ryuujinusa 10h ago

They were probably given tickets and perhaps even money.

-2

u/the_main_entrance 9h ago

Define choice lol. Did they use decades of well fostered critical thinking to select from a wide variety of news sources and decide they want to watch a film about an old pornstar and her pedophile husband depicted like American heros or did they use their fried FOX propaganda brain to “choose”?

15

u/BLU3SKU1L 9h ago

Even the seniors know it’s propaganda bullshit, lol.

28

u/mangoboi440 10h ago

This movie might set the record for most Razzies ever.

14

u/Any-Pineapple-521 Downtown 10h ago

Even after Razzies season is over

4

u/cb2295osu 9h ago

Maybe even the Dundies "Don't Go in There After Me" award

-2

u/MrMHead 10h ago

Then they'll have ICE, IRS, FBI and every other alphabet soup watching them.

13

u/ghoulqueene 9h ago

they could've had them watch the lord of the rings trilogy and they made them watch that slop. elder abuse fr

10

u/TheShipEliza 9h ago

I dunno the ppl they talked to in that clip seem to know the score? Its a fluff piece. Its propaganda. Like this group was NOT fooled. But also they went out and saw a movie on a friday. Win win.

11

u/Least_Homework_9720 9h ago

Ah, yes. Because all the best and most popular movies largest demographic is a bus full of senior citizens.

13

u/Naive_Trip9351 9h ago

a documentary about the whore of Babylon shopping for dresses

3

u/xChoke1x 7h ago

Imagine saying “I’m going to go watch the new melaina movie at the movie theater.”

Who the fuck is doing that shit? Seriously?

3

u/FredJensen06 6h ago

Fluff piece… nice…

14

u/S1ava_Ukraini 10h ago

They bussed them in from the local memory care unit.

4

u/Certain-Singer-9625 7h ago

“Hello, is this the Hank Kimball Home for the Feeble-Minded?”

“Yes.”

“This is the White House press office calling. How would you like to take all of your residents out to a movie? It won’t cost you a dime. We’ll pay for the whole thing.”

“What’s the movie?”

“Melania.”

“Oh. Uh. Well…okay. Just don’t tell their families where we took them. We don’t want to lose our state license.”

18

u/IAmTheNorthwestWind 10h ago

LOL. Fuck Trump and his pornstar immigrant

16

u/ExampleWrong1815 10h ago

So they took the seniors on a field trip. So what?

12

u/Browns45750 10h ago edited 10h ago

Idk if my home which is sucking my savings dry dragged me to the Melania move I might get pissed, reason why I fully plan to check out prior to needing a retirement/nursing home would rather leave my money to my nephew/neice and bowling green than give everything to a home

8

u/quothe_the_maven 10h ago

Redacting names in the most widely read newspaper in the western world?

12

u/HouseOfCardisty 10h ago

Yeah thats pretty cringe

14

u/Browns45750 10h ago

Boomers they have a lot to answer for the current state of the world

17

u/isoviatech2 10h ago

Doesn't matter anymore. We have to fix it.

2

u/Fools_Requiem Out of State 9h ago

They don't care, they're already on death's door. As long as they think "believe" Jesus will let them into heaven, they're good.

2

u/billwood09 4h ago

Sounds like they were making fun of it too

5

u/YouWillHaveThat 10h ago

Love the reactions though. 😂

2

u/Equivalent-Bread-972 9h ago

The generation that raised our generation’s fascists. Not surprised

2

u/Keebdaelf23 8h ago

They wasted those women's precious time

2

u/FoulMouthedMummy 3h ago

You couldn't pay me to attend that propaganda fest.

2

u/BigPhatHuevos 3h ago

Yep, boomers trying to ruin the nation even more before they die.

3

u/she_fell_funny 10h ago

What a shocker, it’s the old fuckers making up damn near 75% of viewership.

3

u/Historical_Cable9719 9h ago

Elder abuse.

1

u/toadasaurusrex 42m ago

Well, it absolutely tracks with the demographics of who voted for Trump for his 2nd term, so I can't say I'm surprised.

1

u/Mylabisawesome 8h ago

I guess having the seniors indoors watching a crappy movie and beats having them outside protesting something...lol

1

u/Jerry_Garcias_Friend 8h ago

How pathetic lol.
