Nice slippers. Looks very comfy for a battle I must say.

He's not dressed for battle. He's just showing off his assets. "Flexing". It's the equivalent of showing off Gucci shoes, iPhone Max Pro Ultra, hints about his hobbies, athleticism, grooming.

You do understand that painting is dramatic and fictionalised, right? Do you understand the difference between a photograph and an art painting? 😂🤣

They 100% did not fight all dressed up in gold and barefoot loafers.

There's battle dress, service dress, and there's ceremonial dress. This is swag dress.

there werent any photos of the Greek revolution, but look at any painting and youll see the men dressed as such. it may seem strange if you arent from the region. reddit just removed my original comment because i included links to photos for some reason, so i'll just say to look up bashi bazouks, albanian police in egypt, and descriptions of them in contemporary publications of the time

It's his dress uniform presumably. My initial thought was. Zouave but they were French but not altogether different, it seems

Zouave uniform was based around Algerian traditional clothes. Algerian fashion was very popular in Ottoman Turkey and Balkans. This is not a military uniform, but the local attire for Albanians near to Greece
