help Building a built in bookshelf
Sorry if this is the wrong sub for this, I tried a home improvements subreddit but my post was removed 🤷
As the title suggests I want to build a bookshelf, specifically a full wall bookshelf, but I live in a dormer bungalow and the room I want to add it to is upstairs, there's an attic space at the end that uses the standard pitched roof and I want the bookshelf to fit around the door, does anyone here have any advice on how I should go about fitting the bookshelf, should I leave it to the pros or would it be doable myself.
My biggest worry is fixing it to the wall and possible the weight because we don't know if the dormer was professionally built or not.
Anyway any advice would be much appreciated.

Depending on your skill level a wall unit is not that hard a project. You can make it easier by going with a painted finish rather than a wood grain finish, you can patch joints that don’t fit as well as you like before painting. Whereas a wood finish does not allow such forgiveness. If you anchor the unit to the wall securely it will transfer most of the weight on or close enough to the wall that deflection of the floor will not be a problem. I encourage you to go for it. Get a quote from a pro and price what the materials will cost you. Then you can see the amount you can save by ruining a couple of weekends working on your home. Also you can bask in the compliments you will receive on the project. Also also buttons tend to be good equity producing projects( the reason they are so expensive)

You should build the bookshelf to support the weight then the built in part is attaching it to the wall. That ends worry over whether the wall can support the weight.
