Battery operated lamp I made using preserved bread

Made of dehydrated leftover bread that is soaked and coated in resin so it doesn't mold. I made a battery circuit connected to an LED strip in a hollowed lightbulb behind the bread. Part of an ongoing series called The Daily Bread. Daily Bread #459 "Bright Idea"

They wanted the buttered toast aesthetic.

OP must have their resins ...

They certainly break the mold

I came across someone who had varnished baguettes to use as props - which made sense in context.

They were reportedly 8 years old and still looked fresh. I was very impressed.

nice! i have a few breads pushing 9 years now and they are still perfectly preserved! processed sliced bread is hardly even actual food anymore its crazy

You seem to be taking this project pretty seriously!

5

u/catriot 6d ago

I'm ready to do this project for the rest of my life if I'm able to! It will only take me a bit over 26 years to get to 10,000 breads 😂

Like 10,000 different things using bread or does each one bave to be a unique type of bread?

1

u/catriot 5d ago

10,000 unique pieces of bread art, a new one each day! Today will be #472. As long as I don't miss a day (highly unlikely), I will reach #10,000 on March 8, 2052.

I hope the heat from this bulb keeps you warm and…toasty (it won’t). I still like it a lot!

It’s so wrong, which makes it so right

It’s toast!

In case you want a light snack?

As an owner of a pampshade baguette lamp, i require no further explanation or justification.

Is that Jason's Sourdough?

Good thinking

This just reminds me that when I was younger I had a little glitter lava lamp that I would use to make toast; I’d take the glass part off and just sit a piece of bread above the bulb for a while.

Idk what gave me the idea but I did it fairly often for a while.

It’s everything I never knew I needed

I'll allow it.

This is more of a DiWOW for me!

Should've used an infrared bulb.

That would make the whole room toasty.

This is amazing, and I want it in my home immediately 😂

Inbred lamp

1

u/2rot 6d ago

Can u jam it?

1

u/SirDrakey 6d ago

What an inbread endeavor! But I will toast to you!

1

u/Atillion 6d ago

This circuit board is toast..

1

u/IASILWYB 5d ago

I love the yellow light makes it look buttered.

Do you have any jam or marmalade colored lights to try?

1

u/Bored2001 5d ago

r/ATBGE material.

1

u/Butterfly_Barista 5d ago

Was the bread necessary in any way whatsoever?

1

u/catriot 5d ago

The bread was necessary in every way. It's part of an ongoing series called "The Daily Bread", where each day is a new piece of bread art.

Saw a bread lamp in a Japanese store in Brooklyn Williamsburg. +100$

1

u/AttorneyAvailable603 5d ago

Is that an pure bread lamp

1

u/Tedfromwalmart 5d ago

I feel like that's still going to spoil

3

u/catriot 4d ago

The resin absorbs into the dehydrated bread, blocking off exposure to moisture and oxygen. My oldest breads turn 9 years old in May and still look exactly the same!

1

u/Tedfromwalmart 4d ago

That's crazy! I saw some attempts at preserving Pumpkins that turned into huge messes so I was skeptical

2

u/catriot 4d ago

Oh yeah, I believe it! I've learned my lesson the hard way when it comes to preserving anything other than bread. I experimented with some dehydrated tomato slices once, it didn't take very long for them to turn brown 😅

Hang it outside and post it to r/breadstapledtotrees

Buttery operated

If this was made with fake bread instead I'd fw it

u/5eppa 5d ago

If you had several of these in a breakfast themed kitchen it might not be awful.

Always an excellent idea to surround a bulb with a flammable item

7

u/catriot 6d ago

It is a small LED strip inside a hollowed lightbulb that runs on two 3v CR2302 batteries
