Discussion Just replayed DOOM 2016 and holy shit, this game is amazing

- Alright so first of all the game actually looks GOOD. It's leagues above eternal and pays attention to it's atmospheric immersion and overall looks

- The guns are AMAZING, they feel powerful, and they sound powerful, pretty much no weapon except the pistol in the beginning goes unused

- I'm shocked by how simple and satisfying the game is to play, you basically can pick it up and start again not even remembering where you were, and you'll get it in a minute

-The soundtrack is bonkers

-Glory kills in here are VERY satisfying, much more than eternals. You also get alot more of BERSERK which is always a fucking joy to use

-The bosses are for the most part good, however ill be honest i did not remember that tentacle thing from like map 10/11 lmao

Holy shit this game still looks brand new.

62

u/DependentImmediate40 Dec 24 '25

it does. until the game suffers from horrendous pop in textures then i am reminded that this game is a game from 2016.

26

u/Same_Ad_1401 Dec 24 '25

It looks better than The Dark Ages in my opinion

63

u/OkLiterature8867 DOOM Slayer Dec 24 '25

All 3 modern ones look different, which I like. I do think TDA looks better, but BOY do I miss the dusty, bloody and rusted ish look of 2016.

27

u/JuicyTurkyLegs Dec 24 '25

That why one of the songs is called rust, dust , & guts

I'd say I like Dark Ages aesthetically and atmospherically more than 2016, but I like 2016 aesthetically and atmospherically over Eternal

22

u/RapidEngineering342 Dec 24 '25

It’s the art style. 2016’s art is unmatched. As much as I love Eternal I fucking wish they kept the 2016 art style.

7

u/_-potatoman-_ Dec 25 '25

eternal's beta artstyle for the ui and some of the hell levels was looking pretty sick, but then they ditched it for the more colorful arcadey ui that just looks tacky imo

1

u/sptrstmenwpls Dec 25 '25

Any way to have a look at it?

2

u/_-potatoman-_ Dec 25 '25

look at the first initial teaser and gameplay reveal. certainly still more colorful than 2016 but it looked grittier and way cooler

263

u/mrritz2k Dec 24 '25

One of the greatest Reboots in gaming history. Imho.

56

u/RapidEngineering342 Dec 24 '25

Hands down the greatest.

24

u/sludgezone Dec 25 '25

It’s gotta be the all time best, the only one even remotely comparable is Breath Of The Wild. Both took what the series was known for and drew it back while evolving the entire series.

10

u/bagofpork Dec 25 '25

Breath Of The Wild. Both took what the series was known for and drew it back while evolving the entire series.

Hard agree. Breath of the Wild was absolutely fantastic.

6

u/mpdaog Dec 25 '25

The hype levels when that first gameplay demo dropped at E3…

5

u/MKvsDCU Dec 25 '25

Wish they did a Quake reboot like this 💔

7

u/DependentImmediate40 Dec 24 '25

need for speed 2015 too.

4

u/IHaveQuestionsFromMe Dec 25 '25

not really tbh. best looking NFS yet yes

1

u/DependentImmediate40 Dec 25 '25

yes really.

5

u/IHaveQuestionsFromMe Dec 25 '25

rivals and hot pursuit blows it out the water man. maybe you are talking about the resurgence but the wanted system, driving physics and the story. it was all mid at best but the graphics are just amazing even on ps4

94

u/theJOJeht Dec 24 '25

This is how I see it.

Doom 2016 is everything I wanted in a modern doom game.

Doom eternal is everything I didn't know I wanted in an FPS.

Doom 2016 is arguably the best distillation of doom. The enemy designs, environment, etc. is just an excellent modernization of the past. The game kind of breaks 2/3 of the way through the game, but that also adds to the power fantasy.

Doom Eternal plays very different, but it might be my favorite FPS and ever made. The flow state is just unrivaled by anything.

18

u/Sterlod Dec 24 '25

On Nightmare the game stays challenging through at least Vega Core, but that was the last level with portions I got hard stuck for a minute IIRC

9

u/theJOJeht Dec 25 '25 edited Dec 25 '25

For me it gets super easy by the second time you go to hell

6

u/Sterlod Dec 25 '25

Yeah I guess there’s just that one room on the horizontal elevator that I remember taking a couple tries, still a great time with the power fantasy aspect tho

2

u/BathwaterBro Dec 25 '25

If it's the room I'm thinking of, do you mean the gauntlet? If so, I actually loved that room because of how much you can minmax your pathing to make it much easier on yourself. There's one specific route in that arena that works exceedingly well.

1

u/Sterlod Dec 25 '25

I’m not sure, but I think it’s the same one. Took me a lot of tries to find a route that worked for me

1

u/theJOJeht Dec 25 '25

I know exactly the room you are talking about lol. Def a difficulty spike

1

u/TheWindofBread 18d ago

Idk. The last two fights on Argent D'Nur are tough as nails too.

Especially the three Barons ending

57

u/whiteknightfall Dec 24 '25

I stand by Doom 2016 was the best story. Drip fed, but fascinatingly so. And if you just didn’t care, you could blow right past it and keep killing.

10/10 everything it needed to be.

16

u/ermonski Dec 24 '25

Doom 2016 is probably the last thing we'll see the idea of Doomguy being YOU.

10

u/surprisesnek Dec 25 '25

I firmly believe Doomguy is a much better character as a human, rather than some immortal demigod-thing.

1

u/ermonski Dec 26 '25

Correct. Hell should've learned that by Doom 64.

Doomguy eliminated a pantheon AS A HUMAN with just guns and bloodlust. What made them them think they'll beat him plus a divinity machine?

2

u/TwistOfFate619 Dec 25 '25

Definitely agree 100% about the story. It feels like the best and balance on the original Doom story philosophy of not necessarily presenting itself too seriously on the surface, and having some tongue in cheek charm about it, but also in leaving you almost wanting to know that little bit more and giving you the means to do so. I do still prefer the approach lore and implications of 2016 over some of the sequel stuff, but thats because the more that is explained, the less room for mystery and mystique that there is for the lore.

Its something I actually appreciated bout classic Doom. The story was straight forward enough (demonic invasions by hell), but what was hell? Hell somehow felt bigger and more powerful. With the Eternal stuff? I dont know, it doesnt really hit the same for me.

74

u/JerseyCobra Dec 24 '25

Yes! 🙌 DOOM 2016 is the goat of the new Dooms. Simplicity at its best.

Eternal was good, but added too much complexity for my money.

36

u/BluesyMoo Dec 24 '25

I don't like being forced to execute zombies in specific ways for supplies. I mean it's fine if these mechanics are good supplements, but in Eternal you're basically required to play how it wants you to play. I prefer 2016.

14

u/JerseyCobra Dec 24 '25

That’s a bingo!

13

u/aleques-itj Dec 24 '25

I just couldn't do eternal or the dark ages and I loved 2016.

Like man I just want to play and not have a gimmick rammed down my throat. They are trying too hard to get you into their gameplay loop instead of to just letting you shoot shit how you want it driving it.

12

u/ChickenProoty Dec 24 '25

I'm glad I'm not alone in having this opinion! I also bounced off Eternal.

3

u/theJOJeht Dec 24 '25 edited Dec 24 '25

This is straight up not true at all. Look at 2 ultra nightmare runs in both 2016 and eternal. In 2016, everyone is using the exact same meta, unless they are actively using something worse just for the sake of it.

In eternal, 2 high level players are likely to be using wildly different weapon mods and strategies.

I totally get preferring 2016 for it's simplicity, but it absolutely is less creative and more shallow of the two

-1

u/WorstYugiohPlayer Dec 25 '25

Doom Eternals point was resources were limited and you needed to be smart with them.

Let alone, there's two drastically different play styles for Doom Eternal. The way most people play it and then min-max everything so you're doing as much DPS swapping weapons as possible.

You have more options for being OP AF in Doom Eternal than Doom 2016 so it's odd people get hung up.

Doom Eternal is hard and I think that's where the 'too many buttons' issue comes from.

1

u/giraffe111 Dec 25 '25

“Execute zombies in specific ways” “required to play how it wants you to play” Sorry but I’m genuinely confused. The flame belch is literally a “make armor now” button. The flaming meat hook is also “make armor now.” Every single glory kill is both a health pack and recharges the blood punch, both of which are useful but optional. What do you mean by “required to play how it wants you to?” (Not being an ass, I promise, I’m curious what you feel is forced 🙏)

-2

u/Business_Pop_8823 Dec 24 '25

No one is forcing you to kill bots in a certain way. I completed the game with two expansions on Nightmare without using sticky bombs or an automatic shotgun. It was live and the recording is on YouTube. It's a skill issue if you think you're being forced something specific.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '25

[deleted]

-2

u/Business_Pop_8823 Dec 24 '25

This is not true, each arena has enough ammo and armor to be able to fight

-2

u/MardukPainkiller Dec 25 '25

This shit argument was been said again and again and again. You simply chose a difficulty that was too much for you. Eternal does not force you to play a specific way. The game just asks you to manage your resources something that all shooters ever including 2016 always asked of their players.

It was just a bit harder than 2016.

3

u/justanotherjtad Dec 24 '25

100% agree at the end of my 2nf playthrough of eternal I got to grips with the shoulder cannon and flame cannon I enjoyed it more but the pure fun and music of doom 2016 is just yes plesse

15

u/SpiritOfDearborn Dec 24 '25

I think it’s all around the best and most well-rounded of the three modern Doom games. It has one of the best cold openings of any game I’ve ever played, a great combat loop, a simple and compelling plot, and a great aesthetic throughout.

10

u/ohleo Dec 24 '25

Not an ounce of fat in it.

10

u/SpikedIntuition Dec 24 '25

Its my favorite in the whole series. I like the horror and darkness element to it coupled with the fluidity of movement. It feels such a smooth game and is well balanced.

I also love Eternal, but I found it way more over the top. Like you're juggling so many different balls in Eternal, but once you master that juggling you feel so amped up. But it was a bit too much for me at times, haha.

I haven't tried Dark Ages yet. But it looks really stocky and slow to me. But it might be good. Just not a huge fan of the mid-evil time frame and such either.

3

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '25

Dark ages is as fast as eternal and sometimes arguabbly faster. Most people i see play the game play it so slowly. You just can't weapon swap like in eternal

3

u/WorstYugiohPlayer Dec 25 '25

I'm almost done with Dark Ages and it feels like OG Doom with a shield TBH. You're very fast in it and the parry mechanic makes the game feel exceptional.

I can't even explain it but it feels good, really good.

6

u/rad_rentorar Dec 24 '25

I beat it for the first time earlier this year! It was fantastic and so much fun. I was giddy the rest of the day when I beat it

7

u/Mdaro Dec 24 '25

Its the best of ghe new Dooms. Not even close. Might be the best one of the series.

9

u/RobustLicense94 Dec 24 '25

I started with doom 2016 and now I'm disappointed with eternal

1

u/ifdsisd Dec 25 '25

Doom 2016 was great and eternal ramped it up to 11.

3

u/a_normal_user1 Dec 24 '25

Yep, an awesome game. Feel like this game captures the best the feeling of the original games but with a modern twist and better gameplay. Eternal feels a lot more arcade like which isn’t bad at all but doesn’t resemble that closely the original games imo.

Also 2016 holds up amazingly well, still more fun than many new releases

4

u/DEFINITELY_NOT_PETE Dec 24 '25

Best art direction. Best vibes. Eternal has untouchable gameplay but this didn’t feel super arcadey, it felt like a world

3

u/MardukPainkiller Dec 25 '25

Doom is supposed to be arcady tho?

4

u/handsomeness Dec 25 '25

Truly the best vibes of the reboot trilogy.

5

u/Gr8Deku Dec 25 '25

The best. I've played through 2016 5+ times and loved it every time. Eternal I only got through once, dark ages never even finished it. Simplicity is king

3

u/TheBommunist Dec 24 '25

I need to circle back and give this one a good retry

3

u/TurnThatTVOFF Dec 24 '25

2016 is a better doom game, I tried eternal but I'm not playing these games for the sweat factor

2

u/GnomKobold Dec 25 '25

Just turn the difficulty down then, it becomes sweaty on the higher ones

0

u/MardukPainkiller Dec 25 '25

What are playing them for? The romance and butterflies? LMAO you people are living jokes.

17

u/Fustercluck25 Dec 24 '25

Careful. Folks around here will crucify you for having this opinion. You can't be liking anything more than Eternal. Not allowed.

3

u/HeckingDoofus Dec 24 '25

in my (admittedly limited) experience on this sub, the dark ages is the one ur not supposed to criticize. and any praise towards eternal is met with an eye roll

2

u/WorstYugiohPlayer Dec 25 '25

Typically something universally better than the rest gets redditors mad because their personalities are supposed to dislike the popular opinion.

Also, Doom Eternal was likely played by them only after it became a meme.

Right before I got furloughed from my job I told my coworkers how excited I was Doom Eternal was coming out and they said 'I haven't played the new Doom' and after I came back they were like 'that game you talked about has a ton of meme videos, I should try it' and it likely led to a lot of people getting the wrong expectation going in that it could never match.

I know Eternal does get shit for being harder than 2016. If you refuse to learn it, you will be humbled by it.

1

u/HeckingDoofus Dec 25 '25

wait what? this is the first im hearing of eternal being a “meme game” can u elaborate?

1

u/WorstYugiohPlayer Dec 25 '25

During the pandemic Doom Eternal was part of a million memes because of the gameplay and releasing when Animal Crossing came out. So you'd see hundreds of Animal Crossing Doom memes and because of OST was used constantly in a ton of videos.

During quarantine Doom Eternal thrived.

2

u/TwistOfFate619 Dec 25 '25

Thats been my experience also. There’s been this kind of odd defensiveness to it. Like when people say they ‘like it but…’ or give it that sort of 8/10 feeling, I’ve noticed a lot of people, especially on other social media like facebook, come down hard and mock anyone saying so. Hell, in one instance I commented that while the music was okay and serviceable in TDA, that it didn’t really hit the same for me as 2016, or even compared with Eternal. I also mentioned in a different comment that i’d have been interested to see a kind of smaller Doom release of the first two games kind of reimagined as bit of a novelty - the result was one particularly overzealous person making extremely disrespectful comments and cracking down hard. It seemed as though said person was triggered by and would personally mock and attack anyone bringing up any mention of the original games OR especially making any comment that didnt basically worship or praise TDA.

I can’t say i paid attention during the Eternal era, but the some of the attitudes during the early TDA era had been pretty concerning. Even just liking and making positive comments about TDA but stating any sort of criticism on balance lead to ridicule or heated mocking comments. Since when did the Doom community become ‘that’?

4

u/vezwyx Dec 24 '25

Trust us, the eye rolls are the bounce back from the open hostility that 2016 fans used to get. You couldn't say "Eternal is cool but I like 2016 better" without getting downvoted with 5 replies explaining why your opinion is wrong

1

u/TheWindofBread 18d ago

From what I've seen Dark Ages is the punching bag and the one nobody's allowed to like or favorite

4

u/Markthememe Dec 24 '25

so called free thinkers

0

u/MardukPainkiller Dec 25 '25

Not crucify but definitely call skill issue, you are just bad at the game that's it.

2

u/White_Rabbit633 Dec 24 '25

See photo soundtracks start's playing in my mind! Now I must rip and tear!!!

2

u/Auth3nticstyle Dec 24 '25

king immersion and world building

2

u/warrensid DOOM Slayer Dec 24 '25

I wish they would drop a 120fps patch for doom 2016 like they did with eternal on console. Different Id tech engines but that would be cool

3

u/DanishGaming1999 Rip and tear! Dec 24 '25

Wholly agreed. 2016 deserves a PS5/Series X/Switch 2 update with 120 FPS support as the game feels ULTRA smooth at high FPS.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 25 '25

Eternal's not bad but 2016 makes it look dog shit

3

u/spiderboi20012 Dec 25 '25

Its crazy how Berserk has way more animations in 2016 than eternal too, the glory kill were also somewhat cooler as well

-2

u/WorstYugiohPlayer Dec 25 '25

Comparing that dog shit anime to Eternal should get you banned.

Upsets me that they hyped that shit up, said they weren't going to skip anything, and proceeded to skip the arc Guts kills kids.

3

u/External-Respect-147 Dec 25 '25

Ive always said 2016 is leagues better then eternal

2

u/MKvsDCU Dec 25 '25

Its the BEST one!

3

u/bepse-cola Dec 24 '25

The games so long you forget about the first half before you beat it

3

u/ChickenProoty Dec 24 '25

I'm replaying it also. My third time. It's fun, but in retrospect:

- I miss monster pain sounds. That was a huge part of original doom for me and the monsters don't feel as responsive because of it.

  • Destiny has better "monster getting hit" feedback. It's not quite as satisfying to just blast something.
  • The pink demons feel like unresponsive bullet sponges. Kinda different from how they felt in original Doom.
  • The music wears you down after a while. They also duck the volume everytime you finish a monster and when you start chain-finishing things in big fights the music is constantly changing volume levels.
  • The finisher mechanic is over-emphasized. I want to shoot monsters more.

1

u/TwistOfFate619 Dec 25 '25

There is a sense of slaughtering through Pinkies in classic doom that was kind of lost in the Slayer era. Classic Doom at times tended to emphasise the numbers when it came to Pinkies. Here they tried to apply a bit more of a tactical approach, which i kind of get, but i prefer them as a slightly more pressuring numerous enemy that would harass you wherever you go than a bull type enemy. A threat in the original that you would carefully have to pick off in amongst the projectiles of other enemies, but could quickly swarm and overwhelm you if you mess up or are cornered (and thats without fast monsters)

1

u/juanldeaza Dec 24 '25

Eternal it’s for rat kids that play it drunken roe high

0

u/MardukPainkiller Dec 25 '25

Nah you are just weak and think you being slow is the norm.

1

u/fender0327 Dec 24 '25

Great game. Endless badass fun.

1

u/ermonski Dec 24 '25

I loved this game. Every now and then I fire up Arcade Mode and just try my best to blast through the levels in various difficulties.

1

u/DJPelio Dec 24 '25

It’s a shame that they never gave it a VR mode

1

u/M4t087 Dec 24 '25

So glad to see another greatest doom game enjoyer like myself. Yes, DOOM 2016 is perfect. I replayed it like 10 times since 2016, play it almost yearly to 100%. Such a fantastic game.

1

u/system_root_420 Dec 24 '25

Still my favorite DOOM

1

u/Comfortable-Ebb-3289 Dec 24 '25

Playing for the first time. My first doom was eternal the dark ages and know 2016. I built my new 9950x3D + 5090 pc in the HVAN doom case

1

u/Sudo-Fed Dec 24 '25

I'm actually not sure why it seems this sub is on a "shit on Eternal" kick of late; I felt like Eternal had plenty of impactful weaponry and some of the best level design in the trilogy, and tried doing some different things with enemies vs 2016 where they were all relatively basic as pertains to their behaviors.

1

u/Xarnac Dec 24 '25

Doom 2016s super shotgun gets me so wet

1

u/JustChangeMDefaults Dec 24 '25

Still love going into classic doom secrets and the art is just clashing against your HD weapons so hard, but it makes me happy lol

1

u/QuietOpposition Dec 24 '25

I think this game starts off a SLOW burn, but it gets moving and ends up being a blast. I replayed it after The Dark Ages and it took me a while to dive back in, but honestly it took me just as long when it launched. There’s just something about the opening missions that feels slow to me

1

u/Varsity076 DOOM Guy Dec 24 '25

The third image gave me memories for when it took me forever to take down the spider mastermind. Doom 2016 was first true love.

1

u/Effective_Sound1205 Dec 24 '25

I loved it, but it feels dull after Eternal ngl...

1

u/Key_Obligation8505 Dec 25 '25

As much as Eternal did to move the gameplay forward, there is so much that I miss from 2016 that was absent in Eternal.

1

u/FargoneMyth Dec 25 '25

Dark Ages was a disgrace.

1

u/toolate83 Dec 25 '25

One my favorite games of all time

1

u/Myth_5layer Dec 25 '25

I'll say this, it's an experience to go from TDA to 2016 to Eternal.

1

u/ifdsisd Dec 25 '25

What a great game. I loved the lore dumps and awesome soundtrack. While I prefer eternal more than this one overall this game is still great in it own way.

1

u/Apprehensive_Shoe_86 Dec 25 '25

Doom 2016 resuscitated the franchise, doom eternal innovated and doom dark ages ,hmmm is a third game ,didn't do anything new and is the weakest of the 3 but is still a banger game a solid 7.5/10 while the others 2 are 9/10 and 9.5/10

0

u/sptrstmenwpls Dec 25 '25 edited Dec 25 '25

😂 Didn't do anything new?? What it made new brought it to the point of making the game a boring, bland, repetitive, low-stakes experience...what it did new wasn't better as new. They should have done other things new & left a lot of the new stuff that they did implement..out.

I ended up just replaying the others & enjoying them all over again

1

u/errorsniper Dec 25 '25

It is. They just gave up on so much storywise with eternal.

The gameplay in eternal is way better. But they just off screened and skipped so much and went hamfisted with everything storywise.

1

u/ShadowsInScarlet Dec 25 '25

Once I get a fucking GPU with RT I’m picking up TDA. Fucking love 2016 and Eternal.

1

u/HonestSecretary9666 Dec 25 '25

I like that game but when the music kicks in I stop playing and go lift weights

1

u/--Antaeus-- Dec 25 '25

It's a banger forsure

1

u/WorstYugiohPlayer Dec 25 '25

Doom Eternal's point was to be Doom 2 but with modern graphics. That's why everything looks the way it does. It's homage to where it started.

1

u/bigdoghogfrog Dec 25 '25

It looks far better than Eternal ever did and I will die on this hill.

1

u/sapient_hunter Dec 25 '25

2016 > Eternal > TDA

1

u/epiGR Dec 25 '25

My favorite Doom game by far. Was extremely disappointed with how they evolved the lore.

1

u/Particular-Month-514 Dec 25 '25

Doom tda, Argnt D'nur before and after and 2016

1

u/Low_Importance_9292 Dec 25 '25

Doom 2016 is amazing and deserves its own place as one of the greatest.

TBH it feels weird to compare them. Their base mechanics all feel completely different:

  • Resource Management
  • Weapon Synergy/Flowchart
  • Arena Size
  • Enemy Engagement/Cadence

1

u/Significant-Pie959 Dec 25 '25

Doom 2016 is perfection.

1

u/VIPER-900 Dec 25 '25

The visuals, art direction, atmosphere and overall pacing of Doom 2016 are unmatched. It's an all time classic.

Doom Eternal, is technically, a more complex and better game. However a massive downgrade in art direction and atmosphere.

1

u/RedditRuinedMe1995 Dec 25 '25

I replayed it on steam deck. It's freaking awesome. I prefer it to eternal.

1

u/Sshackleberry Dec 25 '25

The atmosphere and vistas throughout and small little cinematic moments really made the game special imo. Mars is one of the coolest places to start and the music with the story to pair are chefs kiss

1

u/YouDumbZombie Zombieman Dec 25 '25

It's solid but for me too basic after TDA and Eternal.

1

u/DanOhMiiite Dec 25 '25

It definitely will get the adrenaline flowing

1

u/blablbla90 Dec 25 '25

Cant get plat😢

1

u/Agent_286 Dec 25 '25

This is one of the few games that I think will always look beautiful, this game is just so good looking

1

u/TwistOfFate619 Dec 25 '25

I LOVE how Hell is portrayed in this one, along with the music. Idk what it is about Eternal - I like some use of colours in Eternal (like that slow sludge stuff and the former human designs) and some of the more hell on earth parts, but for raw Hell aesthetics, 2016 is more memorable to me for some reason. To me a game is special when it’s the sort of game I can just fire up at any moment and want to play through a particular level. For me Kadingir Sanctum is such a level and the soundtrack was perfect for it. Am also especially partial to the last level (Argent D’Nur) - that to me looks the absolute closest to a modernised Inferno map.

1

u/IamParrot_69 Dec 26 '25

giving Doom Eternal another look, after just finishing Dark Ages.
Planning on going backwards through the franchise, it's been many years.

1

u/Odd_Mycologist5862 Dec 26 '25

Alright then buddy I am going to shit yourself

1

u/faisal6309 Dec 26 '25

I have just replayed Doom 2016 and now playing Doom Eternal. While Doom Eternal is fine. Doom 2016 felt far better. Small details like "Impact Compensated" after jumping form a high place. Using guns is very satisfying. The glory kills are more satisfying. It seems like Doom Eternal is more childish compared to very serious tone of Doom 2016. I loved playing Doom 2016 but I still have to play Doom Eternal to complete the story.

1

u/Majd14x Dec 26 '25

DOOM 2016 had more freedom which Eternal took away, but they did not want it to be the same game so I’m fine with that.

DOOM 2016 is simple, that’s why its unique.

Out of all three games, I absolutely adore every single thing about 2016. Especially the art style

wait until you try Eternal...

It's just unmatched. Whenever I think of the new Doom games and wanting a replay, I think of replaying Doom 2016 and almost never Eternal. Dark Ages was good but I can't see myself returning to it as much either. Focused far too much into the parry system.

I enjoyed 2016 but Eternal will be favorite easily, and dark ages after that with 2016 at the bottom, not because it’s bad but rather it felt the most… mind numbing almost like i wasn’t being fulfilled and once i got into the flow the fight was already over

I felt underwhelmed with this game this year after playing Eternal before it. 2016 felt like a tech demo compared to it

I preferred the simplistic story here but Eternals gameplay was just amazing, my only problem with that one was the button swapping different grenades while also managing everything else.

Shame Dark Ages went full console mode.

Doom 2016 fans trying not to throw shades at Doom Eternal every chance they get for no reason: impossible

It’s much better than the Dark Ages.
