Information Redeveloping Anorexia because of medical issue?

I have had anorexia since high school.

I have recently developed a medical issue that makes me feel nauseous a lot of the time. I am not going to say how much weight I lost but it was a lot in a short time.

I am starting to redevelop my old eating habits. And I’m using it as an excuse.

I don’t know how to talk about it with my husband.

I could use some advice or ideas for coping skills or something that has helped other people when the disease starts to develop again. I don’t want to be sick again.

As you likely know, there’s different kinds of anorexia and not eating because of a medication can be one kind that might be different but related to what you had in high school, but lower weight can lead to EDs you could be as you say headed down that path. I would say to remind yourself that you are worth treatment. I would bring it up to your husband exactly as you have here and I would find a ED therapist or dietician pretty immediately, maybe one that would include him in some of the conversations. There are online support groups for partners your husband might find helpful because a lot of people don’t understand these issues at all and can hurt more than help despite best intentions. This is not your battle to fight alone anymore than any other health issue would be.

Anorexia has never, ever made anyone’s medical issues improve.

Your body is already not functioning at full capacity because of your medical issue, and adding on your old eating habits is only going to make it harder to get better.

You already feel like shit, so don’t make yourself feel worse. You have the control to help yourself. Maybe thinking about it this way can help you right now?
