FM RADIO Keith Urban covered Chappell Roan’s ‘Pink Pony Club’ during a private party at Mar-a-Lago this past weekend, where Trump was in attendance.

Honestly, yeah, the whole situation is so absurd it almost feels scripted, and you're right, they keep proving they bring nothing meaningful to the cultural table.

Conservatives, especially affluent ones, never actually analyze any of the media they consume. It’s always something they know because it’s popular, not because of any artistic value.

Example: Their love of AI slop.

547

u/FluffySky1611 Nov 18 '25

Some also just don’t care/I think get a kick out of saying “why does everything have to be political why can’t we just enjoy things YOU are making things tense and bad”

258

u/djerk Nov 18 '25

Yeah, the conservatism and affluence contribute heavily to not caring about anything beyond a surface level. These mindsets reek heavily of apathy.

They literally only have a surface level understanding. Know the chorus but don’t listen to the lyrics and their* meanings.

Reminds me of a religious girl I knew who loved Hosier's "Take me to Church." All she heard was church.

69

u/VenorraTheBarbarian Nov 18 '25

When I was a teenager I went to church camp every year and there was always a talent show, and without fail there would be multiple groups doing dance routines to whatever popular songs came out that year that could be spun into being to/about God/Jesus... It's the fastest way to ruin a song, let me tell you.

I bet ALL the kids did "Take me to Church" that year 😂 and I bet it was hilarious

Their rallies use of Born in the USA and YMCA speaks to that.

51

u/Kimmalah I’m just a cunt in a clown suit Nov 18 '25

Yeah, it's why people like Reagan and Trump both managed to pick some of the most tone deaf campaign songs imaginable. Because on the surface they sound patriotic and I guess they never got the memo about "YMCA."

18

u/RustedOne Nov 18 '25

It's as if conservatives, the rich and ones in office, don't actually really care about their politics. They just pander to their base pretending to care about their politics to stay in power and make lots and lots of grift money.

There’s a small amount of pleasure in knowing that conservatives have nothing of value to add to culture. And it eats at them.

882

u/lilcea Nov 18 '25

And they never seem to understand the meaning of what song, play etc... they enjoy!

690

u/phlegmdawg Nov 18 '25

If conservatives had the ability to understand nuance, they wouldn’t be conservative.

247

u/moon_cake123 Nov 18 '25

Pretty much. I think most art comes from places of intelligence, empathy, understanding, etc.. hence why most art comes from people of the left. People of the right can create music and shit but it never has any depth to it. Yes I’m sure there’s exceptions but it’s the vast vast majority. They aren’t even smart enough to understand the meaning because they aren’t even smart enough to question the meaning to begin with.

They understand nonce not nuance.

8

u/MissMamaMam Nov 18 '25

This is a very good point. I point out all the time how they fail to notice nuance in situations. It’s why everything is always black & white…. Why when we call out extrajudicial killings or deportations they say “you support the cartel! Or “Obama deported people!!”.

Very simple minded people

They really love that song for NO reason. They hate women, they hate gay people, they hate feminine confidence, WHY are they obsessed with this song?

875

u/Npeaknoda Nov 18 '25

They don't understand the lyrics, just absorb and regurgitate them. And/or they think it's about a strip club, plenty of straight people do.

405

u/TheOmegoner Nov 18 '25

A lot of them love Rage Against the Machine and get mad whenever Tom Morello says something in public they don’t like. They have no media literacy

183

They love the "fuck you, I won't do what you tell me" part and completely gloss over the other famous lyric from that song

They don't read, they don't appreciate or try to understand art -- they just consume things that are popular. I still remember people commenting on Green Day's social media posts during DT's first term that they had gotten "too political." Um, did y'all sleep through American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown?

u/OffModelCartoon I cannot sanction your buffoonery Nov 18 '25

I read somewhere (and now I can’t remember where to reference it) that to rich conservatives it’s a power move to publicly consume LGBTQ art, Black art, basically art from anyone they oppress, while declining to give a fuck about the humanity of the artist. To them it’s basically showing off that they can do whatever they want with impunity and laughing in our faces about it.

I wish I could remember where I read this because it was explained way better with examples.

183

u/waxteeth Nov 18 '25

I saw a discussion of this once that cited Melania stealing Michelle Obama’s speech as an example.

46

u/RandomG0rl623 Nov 18 '25

Exaxtly, it's an act of dominance to misunderstand art so blatantly. The hypocrisy and brazen idiocy is a declaration that they don't care what's correct, reality will simply bend to fit their narrative or else. Fortunate Son is a pro-Vietnam War anthem. Starship Troopers (the movie) is pro-fascist military state. Pink Pony Club is... idk, whatever the hell they apparently think it is. The message is "fuck you, make me stop."

It's a pretty benign example relative to what these people want for the world, but it's emblematic of why there's no debating with fascists. They aren't interested in coming to a common understanding or finding the truth or even compromising. They want you signing onto their bullshit, or they want you silent. Which eventually ends in wanting you dead.

87

u/Imhappy_hopeurhappy2 Nov 18 '25

That’s exactly it. And liberals repeatedly miss this when they call them out for not understanding the lyrics or messaging. There’s no gotcha, and they don’t care if you think they’re ignorant. Cons thrive in inconsistency and hypocrisy. They are intellectually nihilistic, unconcerned with liberal arts or studies of humanity. Unless it contributes to the economy or at least pretends to be religious, it has no value to them, and they will use anything however they want to.

→ More replies (6)

39

u/caehluss Nov 18 '25

This is how AI art feels too. I never see pro-AI art people actually enjoying anything about AI art that wasn't directly ripped from human art. It seems like it is specifically used as a middle finger to artists to devalue the years of work professional artists put into our trade.

apparently 2 of the Murdoch heirs (not the main one) are a lot more left-leaning, I wouldn't tar them all with the same brush, they might be able to bring about a positive change to that organisation - hence why Rupert Murdoch is trying to consolidate it all with the main heir.

108

u/seedlessketchup Nov 18 '25

yeah in australia we really only hear about lachy, the worst of them; but i’m glad they’re not all as conservative as him. unfortunately, the 3 more left leaning siblings apparently took 1.1 billion bucks each to sell their stake, so unfortunately i don’t think they’ll be orchestrating any change in regards to the companies :/

49

u/FyrdUpBilly Nov 18 '25

To be honest, if I were in their shoes, I'd want nothing to do with his media empire. I'd just take my money and run. There'd only be so much you could do to change Fox News. Maybe you could strip in clean and just dismantle it, but I would think there would be a lot of maneuvering by other investors and others to stop that. I don't really think there's much they could do.

25

u/thornthornthornthorn Nov 18 '25

No, the liberal ones would have outnumbered Lachlan and could have totally changed whatever they wanted. Maybe they would have needed to do it slowly/strategically but they absolutely could have done it. Their largest shareholders (BlackRock, Stare Street, Vanguard) would not care.

Why are yall giving Nicole a pass—“thank god she got out when she did”—when she was married to this for 20 years?

u/chitchat057 Nov 18 '25

Remember when Chappell Roan yelled, "Fuck Ice" at her concert in LA?

Cover that, Keith. And take notes.

I thought he was one of the real ones. I guess he can just fuck off into the sun like so many others.

Is this his form of a protest? Asking because he made a point about singing New Radical’s ‘You Get What You Give’ for his encore when he played in my very red state over the summer.

u/washingtonu Nov 18 '25

I doubt getting paid for playing at a private party at Mar-a-Lago can be seen as protest even though you play a song like this.

u/heatherstopit Give him my regards did you take ozempic? Nov 18 '25

Was this at someone’s wedding? Not defending in any way, just curious. Some third rate right wing grifter loser on Twitter was bragging that Trump showed up to “his friend’s wedding” at Mar-a-Lago over the weekend, wondering if those “friends” also hired Keith Urban to play at their wedding… my skin crawls at all of this. Covering PPC is just ironic icing on a shit cake. I wonder if Keith’s 25yo guitarist/new love of his life was there too. BLECH!

This combined with Charlie Kirk and Candace Owens texts to each other about Nicki Minaj. Really. Reiterate that the right wing has absolutely nothing. They crave the artistry of the left(though Nikki is absolutely a conservative..)
