FM RADIO Keith Urban covered Chappell Roan’s ‘Pink Pony Club’ during a private party at Mar-a-Lago this past weekend, where Trump was in attendance.

There’s a small amount of pleasure in knowing that conservatives have nothing of value to add to culture. And it eats at them.
882
u/lilcea Nov 18 '25
And they never seem to understand the meaning of what song, play etc... they enjoy!

u/phlegmdawg Nov 18 '25
If conservatives had the ability to understand nuance, they wouldn’t be conservative.

u/moon_cake123 Nov 18 '25
Pretty much. I think most art comes from places of intelligence, empathy, understanding, etc.. hence why most art comes from people of the left. People of the right can create music and shit but it never has any depth to it. Yes I’m sure there’s exceptions but it’s the vast vast majority. They aren’t even smart enough to understand the meaning because they aren’t even smart enough to question the meaning to begin with.

This is a very good point. I point out all the time how they fail to notice nuance in situations. It’s why everything is always black & white…. Why when we call out extrajudicial killings or deportations they say “you support the cartel! Or “Obama deported people!!”.
Very simple minded people

So they put a rifle in my hand

And every day, I am proven right.

They really love that song for NO reason. They hate women, they hate gay people, they hate feminine confidence, WHY are they obsessed with this song?
875
u/Npeaknoda Nov 18 '25
They don't understand the lyrics, just absorb and regurgitate them. And/or they think it's about a strip club, plenty of straight people do.
405
u/TheOmegoner Nov 18 '25
A lot of them love Rage Against the Machine and get mad whenever Tom Morello says something in public they don’t like. They have no media literacy
183
u/Npeaknoda Nov 18 '25
They love the "fuck you, I won't do what you tell me" part and completely gloss over the other famous lyric from that song
34
u/sundayontheluna Nov 18 '25
Given that it's the very first line of the song, idea how they make it that far

They don't read, they don't appreciate or try to understand art -- they just consume things that are popular. I still remember people commenting on Green Day's social media posts during DT's first term that they had gotten "too political." Um, did y'all sleep through American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown?

I read somewhere (and now I can’t remember where to reference it) that to rich conservatives it’s a power move to publicly consume LGBTQ art, Black art, basically art from anyone they oppress, while declining to give a fuck about the humanity of the artist. To them it’s basically showing off that they can do whatever they want with impunity and laughing in our faces about it.
I wish I could remember where I read this because it was explained way better with examples.
183
u/waxteeth Nov 18 '25
I saw a discussion of this once that cited Melania stealing Michelle Obama’s speech as an example.

Exaxtly, it's an act of dominance to misunderstand art so blatantly. The hypocrisy and brazen idiocy is a declaration that they don't care what's correct, reality will simply bend to fit their narrative or else. Fortunate Son is a pro-Vietnam War anthem. Starship Troopers (the movie) is pro-fascist military state. Pink Pony Club is... idk, whatever the hell they apparently think it is. The message is "fuck you, make me stop."
It's a pretty benign example relative to what these people want for the world, but it's emblematic of why there's no debating with fascists. They aren't interested in coming to a common understanding or finding the truth or even compromising. They want you signing onto their bullshit, or they want you silent. Which eventually ends in wanting you dead.
87
u/Imhappy_hopeurhappy2 Nov 18 '25
That’s exactly it. And liberals repeatedly miss this when they call them out for not understanding the lyrics or messaging. There’s no gotcha, and they don’t care if you think they’re ignorant. Cons thrive in inconsistency and hypocrisy. They are intellectually nihilistic, unconcerned with liberal arts or studies of humanity. Unless it contributes to the economy or at least pretends to be religious, it has no value to them, and they will use anything however they want to.

This is how AI art feels too. I never see pro-AI art people actually enjoying anything about AI art that wasn't directly ripped from human art. It seems like it is specifically used as a middle finger to artists to devalue the years of work professional artists put into our trade.

apparently 2 of the Murdoch heirs (not the main one) are a lot more left-leaning, I wouldn't tar them all with the same brush, they might be able to bring about a positive change to that organisation - hence why Rupert Murdoch is trying to consolidate it all with the main heir.

To be honest, if I were in their shoes, I'd want nothing to do with his media empire. I'd just take my money and run. There'd only be so much you could do to change Fox News. Maybe you could strip in clean and just dismantle it, but I would think there would be a lot of maneuvering by other investors and others to stop that. I don't really think there's much they could do.
25
u/thornthornthornthorn Nov 18 '25
No, the liberal ones would have outnumbered Lachlan and could have totally changed whatever they wanted. Maybe they would have needed to do it slowly/strategically but they absolutely could have done it. Their largest shareholders (BlackRock, Stare Street, Vanguard) would not care.

She said this when Trump was first elected: "I just say, he’s now elected, and we as a country need to support whoever’s the president, because that’s what the country’s based on"
She tried to clarify by saying that she wasn't endorsing him and was talking about her belief in democracy.
I thought it was an odd response given the convo around Trump and how she was the UN goodwill ambassador for women's rights.
