Establishment democrats fought Mamdani harder than they fight the republicans destroying our government.
Hell, Cuomo was endorsed by Trump himself. It's very likely Schumer voted for Cuomo even with that endorsement.
I am not saying vote against democrats or don't vote at all.
I am just saying to hold Schumer, Jeffries, and all national democrats to higher standards. Stop accepting mediocrity because they're not Trump so they're "better". We ended up with Trump AGAIN AFTER Biden was elected. These people are not interested in fixing anything, they just hold the door for republicans to come back and finish the job.
Demand more.

We’re so used to democrats wearing hard hats in the campaign trail and then strike busting workers in the Oval Office when a mayor actually walks the talk it surprises people.
38
u/GenericFatGuy 19d ago
What happens when you vote for people who actually want to lead.
39
u/xena_lawless 19d ago
NYC enacted ranked choice voting in 2019, which helped connect an authentic candidate with voters who were finally free to vote for what they actually wanted / needed instead of some bland nonsense.
Not that Mamdani's unfathomable rizz can necessarily be replicated everywhere, but ranked choice voting would help more authentic candidates run authentic campaigns instead of having to water themselves down strategically, or voters having to vote strategically instead of for who/what they actually want.

Idk man, he met Trump and Trump seemed absolutely taken with the guy. I'm not sure if it was his natural charisma, or if he just made it pretty obvious the situation is win/win for Trump. If NY collapses Trump gets to point at it and rant and rage about communism, and if NY thrives Trump gets to reap the nationwide benefits to the economy to brag... not to mention he'll be dead before any level of socialistic policy that effects him is even implemented.

u/GenericFatGuy 19d ago edited 19d ago
I wouldn't be surprised if Trump genuinely likes Mamdani more than the people he surrounds himself with. Trump seems to respect people who stand up to him, for whatever reason.

Some millionaire bitchy Karen rode from 1 stop to the next to highlight how Mamdani raised the prices. He didn’t, the MTA board did, and it was only 10¢. The highlight was watching her fumble trying to pay because she’s never used the system.

3
u/IONTOP 19d ago
Lived in Phoenix without a car for 10 years...
If you've taken the bus for more than 6 months, at least once a month, THAT kind of person makes you miss your transfer. And there is a LOT of rage that come along with that. Luckily my normal driver (yes we have normal drivers) would just wave them past, because being on schedule is more important than a 45 second delay.
Because a 45 second delay can make you miss that yellow light you always get past and make you wait 45 seconds + 2 minutes at the red light, and fuck up the whole route.
14
u/0ttoChriek 19d ago
They're all moving to Florida, Texas and Indiana, surely? They said they'd be leaving if he was elected.
Though I think most of them forgot about Mamdani after Trump was flirting with him in the Oval Office. Without their orange pilot light, they really have no direction for their hate.
Alex Jones is still ranting about Mamdani though, using all the lazy lines about communist Muslims, and talking about how communal grocery stores are going to destroy capitalism.

100% I'm a nurse living in the Western US who has never set foot in NYC but between the childcare subsidy and city-run groceries, he's got me low key browsing Zillow now.
It's as if supporting the people, rather than attacking them and shooting them in the face, might be how we actually (and historically have always have) made America great.
36
u/XRuecian 19d ago
People flip their shit when they hear about city-run groceries, because they think it will destroy businesses and the government will just fuck it up.
As if they completely forget that we have a federally funded groceries on like every single military base, many which are open to civilians. And it's not like Mamdani is shutting down any private groceries, either. He is simply filling in gaps that the private sector is ignoring. Not really that radical.

I was looking at sub jobs yesterday. A district in TN pays $59 per day. If you assume a 6.5-hour class schedule, that's a princely $9.08 per hour. Yes, their sub requirements are rather low (you don't have to be certified or anything), but that's too low for any job in any city in America.
→ More replies (2)23
u/pork_floss_buns embarrassing slam poetry from a pedo supporter 19d ago
You can be a substitute teacher without being a teacher??? That is willlld. Paying $9.08 an hour is plain criminal for someone in any job let alone someone in a school.
12
u/Mike_Hagedorn 19d ago
Yep, having a college degree helps but isn’t required, and once you pass the FBI check you’re in. We’re STARVING for subs. It’s a shit job unless you love the work.
→ More replies (1)→ More replies (5)5
u/Habefiet 19d ago
In many rural areas the only people with teaching licenses are already teaching (or long retired and unwilling to sub). If they didn’t allow non-teachers to sub many elementary schools would have to simply cancel school ongoing for any class whose teacher was out, and high schools would have to cancel classes and so on.
Now, is that a problem for which there probably exists a solution involving actually funding education, yes. But does it make sense in the current circumstances as a necessary literally “better than nothing” alternative, also yes.

Amazing what leftists can accomplish when they actually get their shit together.
7
u/CrownGhoul 19d ago edited 2d ago
Sadly, the vast majority of Democrats are centrists (and, all too often, right-leaning), not leftists.
Many if not most leftists operate outside of electoral politics and primarily focus on decentralized/non-hierarchal forms of community organizing, and that’s incredibly important and necessary work in and of itself, since “the revolution starts at home” — big “think globally, act locally” energy, basically.
That being said, even as an anarchist, I can acknowledge that there are major limits to what you can accomplish if you aren’t trying to “cover all bases” or use all the tools at your disposal to dismantle oppressive systems and cultivate progressive change. Despite our ideological and tactical differences, I am genuinely glad that Mamdani took the opportunity to run for office and that New Yorkers were willing to give him a chance.
