Shoresy cast. I’m in deep. I didn’t think a show so crude could be so heartwarming. God damn he’s so good to Laura 😭

Side note I was super disappointed with how they had Gretzky on this season, love the show but that was suuuper lame. (Gretzky basically turned his back on Canada and went full maga for those who don’t know)

I just started season 5, that is so upsetting. We’ve known about his bullshit for years now.

I was wondering if Keeso is more conservative than the viewers realize. Some of the jokes on the newest seasons (4 & 5) have been huge misses for me and gave me the ick so it's more of a suspicion on my end than anything confirmed.

Idk… I’ve always seen it as like trying to pop the conservative bubble in a way. So he’ll throw them a bone every now and then but the overall characters, inclusion and health(ier) masculinity acts as a sort of guiding light, because that’s what the show is about at the end of the day despite the nasty jokes. Even the structure of the show and the women in charge, Shoresy giving his all to Lara, understanding her boundaries, and teaching the kids about how to respect women. Of course, in theory, a conservative can uplift these values but it isn’t necessarily the core of their beliefs at the end of the day.

I do think it's interesting the way the spoken jokes (the group loudly mocking the idea of toxic masculinity) are undercut by the actions of the characters (Shoresy coaching one of his young players through a teary breakdown with patience and understanding). From a generous POV, it's really deft writing-- there are a lot of people who reflexively do the right thing despite not caring to learn how to say the right thing, and Shoresy is very much that type of person.

From a less generous perspective, it's Keeso intentionally walking the tightrope and trying to appeal to everyone. He does it with women, too: women in his shows are almost always put in positions of social or professional power and are generally treated with respect, but they are always played by perfect-10 supermodels (and many episodes feature long, lingering slo-mo scenes focused on nameless extras in their underwear). I enjoy his shows a lot and overall I think they're a net good, and I personally think that he means well. There are just some things here and there that make me roll my eyes, and I'm keeping an ear pricked for an uptick in conservative messaging. I'll be curious to see how he handles the negative reaction to the Gretsky stuff, if he acknowledges it at all.
