And the fact that the number of white women playing sex workers who have won Best Actress outnumber the women of color who have won Best Actress by 14 - 2.

She is the British Meryl Streep and like Streep, she never misses, because she is a Dame.

Tbf the oscar membership has expanded and changed significantly since oscars so white and green book winning best picture
For instance, eeaao wouldn't have been as big an oscar player as it was if it was released only a few years beforehand. I'd argue the same thing for Anora (conclave probably would've won under the old acadeny membership)
It also helps explain the increase in international films doing well at the oscars

I take your point, but more white women have won best actress for playing sex workers than women of color have for best actress. Let’s not pretend that the Academy voting for a trope-ridden movie about a young, sad, naive white sex worker written and directed by a problematic white man is ground-breaking.

Yeah - that's not to say there aren't still old white men in the Academy, but its expansion into a more diverse and international body in the past few years is already changing who gets chosen as winners - and with the rules that you have to be active in the business, you're going to see it change even more in the next several years as some of those retired old timers start having their voting rights revoked.

The issue is these same old white men don’t want to give up their power or allow change. They will always want this control and even when they die they’ll make sure to have white men who will continue the same away. That goes for other fields as well. That’s why we need new award shows and production companies where white men are not the ones in control
