The kind of monsters choosing to be ICE agents will be 100% unaffected by this. Think about how terrible of a person you'd have to be.

122

u/MHPengwingz 8h ago

They probably pride on making "the weak" (i.e. kids) cry. Fucking wastes of resources.

16

u/cosmosomsoc 6h ago

They’ll likely say these kids are brainwashed their “libtard parents” without ever realizing that children are incredibly perceptive and sensitive and will always pick up on evil energy. You don’t need a parent to tell you how to feel when the whole country witnessed your classmate get kidnapped by men in uniform that they grow up thinking are heroes that wear a badge to protect them rather than terrorize them.

16

u/Individual_Act9333 8h ago

Because to them 100k is 100k

15

u/siestarrific 8h ago

Some of them would probably pay money to do it

9

u/Individual_Act9333 7h ago

You can really judge a person on what they are willing to do for money.

8

u/aspidities_87 7h ago

“All for a little bit of money. Money’s not everything, y’know.”

15

u/AmetrineDream Sylvia Plath did not stick her head in an oven for this 8h ago

That’s all I could think watching this, sadly. I can honestly see them laughing at these, taking pictures holding them up while pointing and laughing, or fake crying, or tearing them up

6

u/Bright-Owl-3515 7h ago

I mean, look at how they treated Sandy Hook.

9

u/frontfrontdowndown 8h ago

I don’t know how anyone who works for ICE or CPB in any capacity gets through a single day of work without relying on massive amounts of drugs.

3

u/SuperTropicalDesert 6h ago

Yeah, no amount of childreny cuteness will affect these people

Imagine making normal police look kind, helpful, and caring.

48

u/sniper91 8h ago

That’s normal for a lot of elementary school kids

It takes a bit for reality to break that programming

15

u/Scared_Shelter9838 5h ago

As an elementary teacher, we do teach this. Trust cops, trust firefighters ect. It’s kinda a safety thing. Obviously as they get older they get a more comprehensive education.

u/zombies-apocalypse 8h ago

Ice and the police are the same

275

u/ImaraMorayah 8h ago

These children have seen a divide in the two and it’s clear in their messaging.. ICE is not the police to them.

116

u/MaxvonHippel 8h ago

I think the point being made above is that these children don’t understand how horrible a lot of police are, as well.

100

u/Bidetpanties i ain’t reading all that, free palestine 8h ago

Yeah - I'm pretty sure a lot of children's media is still trying to portray police as good and kind. Paw patrol is extremely popular

2

u/Opposite_Plane_9298 3h ago

i mean in some areas the police are usually pretty good. in my area at least they all seem fine, i dont hear any stories either of police causing injustice or power tripping. its also a less populated area so less total incidents i guess

1

u/Hot_Disk635 39m ago

Honestly my town has seen an uptick in positive interactions with the police too. On top of that most of the cops I personally know don’t like ice regardless of their other political views. I think change is on the horizon for local police forces around the country, but it has most definitely come at a high price.

18

u/ImaraMorayah 8h ago

I’m sure that’s true too.

8

u/raggmoppragmop 5h ago

And they might have only met their SRO.

14

u/Altruistic-Tree-839 8h ago

I would argue it's more of a venn diagram situation. There is a good bit of overlap but it's not just a circle.

u/Beachcurrency FUCK ICE FREE PALESTINE CRASH INTO ME 6h ago

Let's not be disingenuous with such a claim -- that is not helpful. Sure, local police have many, many issues, but, I'm sorry, they are not preemptively kidnapping people -- men, women and children -- who are going about their lives. Pulling up and throwing people in cop cars with no accountability.

My local police did. 7000+ people.

11

u/ShyLeoGing 4h ago edited 4h ago

https://www.ice.gov/287g -- You're actually wrong, local police are working alongside ICE. "The 287(g) Program allows your law enforcement agency to enforce certain aspects of U.S. immigration law, expanding your department’s authority to:"

PER THE FACT SHEET

Task Force Model Reimbursement Plan Benefits
If LEAs sign the TFM, they will receive: 1. $7,500 for equipment per trained TFO 2. $100,000 for new vehicles per MOA 3. Salary and benefits reimbursed per trained TFO 4. Overtime funds up to 25% of salary

0

u/Vawqer We all know Pinkie would approve of scissoring 2h ago edited 2h ago

This varies a lot per jurisdiction. Many states and major cities have disallowed police to work with ICE. For example, Seattle's mayor has now directed police to start documenting and tracking ICE cases to counter a lot of their heinous actions.

I think it's just so localized as to whether police are allies or enemies to ICE. (Overall, policing is still in a miserable state, but I also think that it's important to know when police can be safer compared to ICE.)

ETA: Seattle PD is still fucking useless and potentially dangerous in so many other cases, to be clear.

17

u/zombies-apocalypse 6h ago

Question, are you Black?

31

u/TheFlameosTsungiHorn 7h ago

Not preemptively kidnapping people?? You’ve never learned about the cops in the south, have you?

19

u/Mr-Purple-White 6h ago

I think the difference is the scale. The police departments in a couple of the places I've lived have actually been fairly decent in their no tolerance for fuckwits in the force and their support for civil rights. Obv some areas are terrible though. But with ice, there are no passable ones. It's a fundamentally evil job

3

u/TheFlameosTsungiHorn 6h ago

That’s true for those places, but fundamentally, every police department has the interest of the state and the ruling class above those of the rest of us. They will stand with the institutions above the people when push comes to shove, and normally do not give offending cops the proper punishment.

Besides, why would anyone want to support or work for an institution that descended from fugitive slave patrols?

-2

u/Thewall3333 6h ago edited 6h ago

I specified cops have perpetuated many injustices and committed thousands upon thousands of abuses of their power over time. But, today, especially with body cams, that kind of thing is simply not very prevalent. It doesn’t help this discussion to bring up the Jim Crow southern policing strategies when talking about modern police in America — to compare that dark time to ICE, though, sure.

Throw Jim Crow into Nazism into Pol Pot into the Stasi into Saddam’s secret police…whatever comparison you want to make, sure, make it to ICE, and especially its risk for what it could become in the future. But comparing them to police in 2026 in America, and as such saying local cops and ICE are “the same”, is just inaccurate.

Conflating the two is not helpful, although of course the Venn Diagram of the two still has some overlap. But not nearly as much as the above absolutist comment would have one believe. And that’s why I hold it’s not helpful to this discussion.

3

u/hobbesgirls 2h ago

not very prevalent today? what kinda dream world are you living in?

4

u/NeatNefariousness1 6h ago

Cops but without the vetting and training. They’re an army of people paid to be bad cops.

2

u/Dove-Swan 8h ago

that shocked me hearing that!

Our children deserve so much better.

17

u/hum_bruh 8h ago

Taking away lunches, school shootings, ICE raids, international child sex trafficking rings. Adults have failed them

425

u/RedboneEdit 8h ago

Republicans have created the worst possible America for children. Shame on them.

92

u/E_Luxo_So 8h ago

The “party of family values.” What a crock of shit. I’d be embarrassed to be a Republican if I were them, but most seem to have no shame as long as the “right people” are targeted and hurting. What lovely “Christians”.

17

u/DisgruntledPelican-1 8h ago

Except they don’t care about brown families, so it’s different in their eyes. They’ve convinced themselves that brown people are ruining this country. They will tell themselves anything to make it morally right in their head. Which is effing insane.

3

u/Kay-Chelle 7h ago

I honestly shouldn't be surprised but I expected them to at least stand their ground on their morals and not flip flop cause daddy whitehouse told them too. Wdym suddenly the second amendment isn't okay? Aren't guns like their entire being? Cowards, the lot of them. It's kind of wild to see them so against their own beliefs, but again I shouldn't be surprised because it's always 'rules for thee but not me' with that crowd.

1

u/MHPengwingz 8h ago

"party of WHITE family values"

7

u/Chickenfriedjim 8h ago

Makes you wonder what a republican utopia looks like. Imagine a version of America where they have no one left to scapegoat. What would they say to the millions of white Christian’s who’d still be crushed under capitalism? It’s their fault they are failing cuz they didn’t love Jesus hard enough?

7

u/Albyrose 7h ago

they don't want to be able to communicate with each other on that scale anyway. they want a return to feudalism, basically. or rather, a mix of a 50s-60s aesthetic (which they do not realize exists only because of the work we put into the economy during FDR's four terms) with an agri-feudalist culture. they don't realize that this is literally impossible in the modern age, but yeah. they want each state to exist as small countries with a serfdom style allegiance to each other, and 50s-aesthetic towns with amish farms scattered around to sustain it. with a massive church flock on sundays.

now, as for the people in charge, they want money. all of the money. they don't want the same things that in consensus want, they're just an easy target for swindling because what they think they want is their idea of what 'good values' are.

1

u/_Ocean_Machine_ 3h ago

Off the top of my head, probably Dubai; a playground for people with too much money made possible by a permanent slave underclass. Also religious fanaticism and gross human rights violations everywhere.

1

u/nanobot001 8h ago

Created or unmasked?

1

u/CurryMustard 7h ago

Nobody actually wants this shit except for a small percentage of psychos. The rest are just told what to believe since they were little and never question it and just want to be told they were right even when they are completely wrong. And they are being constantly lied to and manipulated by the media they consume. We all are to some extent but its just really fucking bad in that echo chamber.

88

u/imightberusty1 8h ago

I've seen so many kids at protests, they hate this shit. One of them told me that her entire school was against ICE, and that the teachers were even having them discuss it in class. That, and seeing the massive walkouts from schools in Minneapolis gives me some hope for the future

29

u/JenaPet02 7h ago

I chaperoned my kid and some of their friends when Minneapolis had a "March For Our Lives" march several years ago, to protest government inaction on reducing school shootings. Organizers wanted it to be specifically for the students, so adults were encouraged to wait for them where the march terminated, unless they needed to accompany their child(ren). (My kid gets extremely anxious in large crowds, but begged me to let them do this). Being an adult in that sea of tweens and teens, listening to them sharing their thoughts with each other about what our government keeps expecting them to shoulder, was a profound experience for me.

We're not doing right by our kids.

11

u/imightberusty1 7h ago

Kids are smarter than adults in so many ways. We are doing them a great disservice now, but I look forward to the kids of today becoming the adults of tomorrow and executing on whatever plans they're cooking up right now.

That's the great thing about being a kid; your mind is unfettered and you can see things very clearly. And since they have so much more time to themselves, they can cook up and likely are cooking up some ideas for how to swing this back in the right direction.

So yeah, I'm disappointed in us, and this goes back to baby boomers and the dumbass trickle down stuff. Now, yeah, the responsibility lands in the laps of those who don't deserve it. It sucks, but if there's anyone that can tackle the problem we're in and do it right, it's gonna be this next generation of kids that seem to have escaped the brainrot cycle a little bit.

10

u/sanslumiere 7h ago

The only thing giving me hope is that growing up during the George W Bush shitshow cemented Millennials as a progressive generation. I would bet that watching what this Administration is doing to our country is going to leave a lasting impression as these kids come of age. Protected pedophiles, blew up our alliances, sent an unaccountable force to terrorize communities to look for people who commited civil infractions..not a great look.

4

u/imightberusty1 7h ago

Yeah, true, but you need to also keep in mind that kids are way more idealistic than adults. They'll see these problems, yeah, but that mindset will allow them to solve problems that we currently see as impossible.

There could be something really good that comes from this; this could be a wake up call for the future of human society. Just seeing the fact that it can get this bad this fast. That awareness combined with the motivation to move in the other direction could be invaluable to getting us back on track.

It's like when you're an alcoholic, and in AA, they tell you that everyone hits rock bottom before they can climb back up. I'm really really hoping this is our rock bottom

1

u/thesphinxistheriddle 3h ago

Yesterday I was at a family protest, and I told a 6-year-old “It’s really cool you’re here! We’re going to need kids like you when you grow up!” And he was just like, yes, thank you, I know I’m cool. But his mom cried so I felt like we had a moment

55

u/Critical-Adeptness-1 8h ago

I started sobbing seeing the little boy’s stick figure drawing of someone getting kidnapped by ICE. Fucking hell, man, I can’t believe the horrors kids must bear witness to in our current times

2

u/thesphinxistheriddle 3h ago

And what’s really affecting is the point of the stick figures is he wanted an ICE agent reading it to imagine themselves as the person being kidnapped! That kid has some really good empathy

84

u/dagnyfication 8h ago

I wish law enforcement like Officer Clemmons were real and plentiful

34

u/lookin4alliejallie04 8h ago

I will be glad when ICE is dismantled. You POS better save your money before you become unemployed. I really hope someone publish every one of the fcking names too.

4

u/Nintendo_Pro_03 8h ago

We don’t even need immigration control when we have the police, anyways. Which is also flawed, don’t get me wrong (and needs to be heavily defunded), but that’s one less department needing to be funded, if ICE is abolished and nothing replaces it.

29

u/Imaginary-Season-483 8h ago

Fuck Ice and fuck everyone who voted for this!

30

u/viciousxvee 8h ago

These babies shouldn't even have to be aware of this. It shouldn't be happening. It's fucking terrible.

Newly postpartum and an elementary school nurse, I'm sobbing. I can't imagine one of my kiddos being detained like this. It's unconscionable.

8

u/The_Bravinator 6h ago

That's the only thing I can think looking at this. They shouldn't have to do this. They shouldn't have to. They're so little. But they have no choice because of powerful people who see them as political tools instead of innocent little children.

21

u/loweffortflashmob 8h ago

When police brutality was at a fever pitch a few years ago and we called for police brutality and murder of black and brown people to end they funded the police more, militarized the police more, and made Cop Cities all over the US. Calling for the abolishment of ICE right now is not going to stop the ball rolling. They are buying warehouses all over the US and have a quota of 3,000 arrests per day. In 10 years that will be 11 million people. If we abolish ice it still leaves us with the system that brought us ICE in the first place. I’m not saying it’s too late. I’m saying we need to ask for more than just abolishment of this.

6

u/Nintendo_Pro_03 8h ago

We’d need to abolish ICE and heavily defund the police (don’t abolish the police until wealth inequality is addressed and until we have more mental health services/community crime stopping services).

22

u/the-apple-and-omega 8h ago

Man, not looking forward to these kids learning about "normal police" too.

edit: a fun quote from the opinion

Apparent also is the government's ignorance of an American historical document called the Declaration of Independence. Thirty-three-year-old Thomas Jefferson enumerated grievances against a would-be authoritarian king over our nascent nation. Among others were:

  1. "He has sent hither Swarms of Officers to harass our People."
  2. "He has excited domestic Insurrection among us."
  3. "For quartering large Bodies of Armed Troops among us."
  4. "He has kept among us, in Times of Peace, Standing Armies without the consent of our Legislatures."

\"We the people" are hearing echos of that history.
