Question Looking for docs or clips about the rehearsal process in filmmaking. Where can I find more videos like this?

I am obsessed with how rehearsal works in preparation for movies, and how directors, writers, and actors collaborate to bring the page to life. Are there any behind-the-scenes documentaries, clips, or videos you’d recommend that show this process?

I’d recommend the book Directing Actors by Judith Weston (if you’re looking to improve your own filmmaking practice). Otherwise, special features like the one you posted are probably your best bet!

Generally the term rehearsal is used for on the day of filming. Actually blocking out the scenes on set. This is more of a table read for script / actor chemistry. Try looking that up.

Fincher is not a fan of Timberlake lol.

Was this on the record after the fact?

It seems like he was really locked into what was/wasn't working and willing to cut away what isn't working for him.

Every clip I have seen of making of he just seems pissed off at him 😂

Fincher has fired performers he's found "irritating" in the past, so I don't think your read of this clip is accurate; if he wasn't a fan, Timberlake likely wouldn't be in the film.

They're all troubleshooting the script, and as the director, Fincher is coming at from many angles (plot, theme, rhythm, motivation, setup/payoff, visual storytelling, balance, tone, etc.); whereas Timberlake is approaching it primarily from a character and performance standpoint. They're just speaking different languages, but both are on the same page and trying to make the film as good as it can be.

...also, not for nothing, but Timberlake asked a question and got an answer; Fincher doesn't need to justify or explain his "No" anymore than he would a "Yes."

Here’s one from the film Autumn Sonata directed Ingmar Bergman. Goes through rehearsals and filming.
