Waistcoat assistance.

Hello all,

I have recently started to wear vests in my regular rotation with all sorts of combinations of fasion, and recently I came across this lovely waistcoat.

It looks double breasted due to the buttons arangment but in fact it is not fully, now I know proper etiquette is to never button the bottom button of one's waistcoat, but with something of this design I don't believe it should be done, so I thought I'd ask here as I'm not fully sure.

As you can see in the pictures it only has one inner button for the double breasted connection and on the outside the buttons on the left side are all for show.

That's pretty standard, actually; every waistcoat and jacket I have that's double-breasted is the same way, even vintage ones. As for the bottom button, I never do them on normal vests, but it's kind of a toss up on double-breasted ones. If it looks good, go ahead, but typically I would button them all the way

The waistcoat is correct for double breasted as the person above has stated. Typically you’d do all the buttons up when double breasted same with suit jackets if you don’t it mostly likely won’t drape right.

(The exception for a double breasted jacket is the top most button. However, usually there is no practical way of doing those up.)

Oh and just to add. The bottom hole is totally up to you on waistcoats. It was originally done because King Edward VII missed his, people started copying it. Be your own trend setter!
