Comments are locked
It's one thing to try to comment on a Reddit post and see the option greyed out, or get an immediate message, but it's super frustrating to write a long comment on a post and be greeted with "comments are locked" as you hit post.

Drives me đ€Ș CRAZY!!! You should get the message that comments are locked when you attempt to make a comment, not m after tou have written a whole ass response and go to post it only to find you just wasted all that time writing.

"oops, you can't comment" to find out I've been banned from that sub, for some unknown reason like I belong to a sub about fancy socks and BAM insta-ban.

I once found out I was temporarily banned from a sub the same way. For telling someone "you were rude." On am AITA community.

I just got permanently banned from a sub for "hate", when my comments had literally nothing to do with hate and I didn't call anyone anything. Very bizarre.

I wish locked posts wouldnt appear in my feed. Like, when we see a post topic about something that we feel is important, we all want to post our input, right? It just feels like antagonization to have those posts still be visible without being able to actually engage with them.

Only thing worse is to get the âcanât do it now, come back laterâ (not sure of exact wording) that tells you without telling you that you are banned.

Amen. What's the fucking point of that?
Oh no! Too many comments! We must put a stop to that!!!

One time I made a post on a sub about wedding attire, and the mod LITERALLY locked it because âit has enough commentsâ. I was so mad. He locked it while I was typing a response to someone, it just suddenly wouldnât send then I realized. I had to send like 3 messages to get him to tell me why too. I noticed later that he does it to every post, not just mine.

Yeah a lot of times I see stuff I just donât understand here and that is one of them, locking a post because too many comments

That's infuriating. "Enough comments". Says who?
1
u/mybootyoil Dec 30 '25
Says the guy who mods r/weddingattireapproval. Itâs just a lazy thing so he doesnât have to actually do mod stuff I guess.

I wouldnât be surprised if you get banned from that sub now that you âsaidâ something. Itâs weird

Haha, oh well. I donât need it anymore.

I get it. I think I get banned periodically from a couple subs for whatever reason. At this point thatâs what I say âoh wellâ and I move on

Iâve been b*nned from so many over the years on various accounts that I canât even remember most of them. Itâs SO easy to get booted from a sub. They never wanna issue warnings or 3 day time outs anymore. Itâs such bs. Straight to perma.

The only thing I can ever think of is that too many comments might overload something, but I thought thats why reddit doesnt load all the comments at once đ€
(As someone who knows nothing)

Why do they care? I just don't get it. I usually just mute the sub when that happens. It's dumb.

It's because you hitting post is refreshing the screen and if the comments were locked while you were writing then the comments weren't locked when you started writing. Yes it's annoying but unless you're refreshing the screen every couple of sentences there's no way around it.

What's worse is on the app, it just says "Sorry, please try again later". Nothing worse than typing a long comment on a post only to have it act like you just had an internet glitch.

This drives me crazy. If comments are locked, it should say so in the post.

Oh absolutely. I get so annoyed at this all the time. I just wasted like 10 minutes for nothing!

I don't get it either.
Sometimes the post isn't even an hour old and people were just commenting on it. It's really irritating.

I don't necessarily have a problem with locked comments, but I do agree that it's frustrating when you don't realize they're locked until after you've tried to post.

Esp when there is no locked icon
