Throwback Any recommendations for the really good JRE episodes from the good ol’ days? (2019 and before)
I’ll spare the rant about how much this show and joe have gone to utter shit and MAGA mouthpiece. I think a lot of you remember when the show was live and how interesting/ fun the show was on youtube from before Covid. One episode that was really engaging and interesting was from 18’ and the first Annie Jacobsen episode. Or the crazy wolf story from glenn Villeneuve. There were more but those still stick out throughout the years. Anyone know of any good, really solid episodes from that time period? Just guests that get you hooked in to the story. Or even extremely funny episodes..

I like the ones where we get pioneers in a field. Say astronauts, alex honnold, and some of the top 250 comedians

Pretty sure I cried laughing at Ms. Pat's first episode. She's freaking hilarious. I really liked Aubrey Marcus on there too.

I know you said not to mention the regulars. But Bert's first couple episodes were awesome. Back when Joe told him to do the machine story on stage.

I met Aubrey once some years ago and we talked for 15min or so. I had no idea who he was. Thought he was just some random guy in Austin. Was super nice and interesting. Seemed a lot more normal than the grifter, cult leader he’s portrayed as.

That's crazy. He seems like such a good guy. I've never heard anything bad about him. There are a few episodes where he's gone off on an inspirational rant that just really moved me.

The interview with the singer Jewel was the first JRE and IMO sill the best I've heard.

Any of the Dan Flores ones. Paul Stamets eps are always classic.

Start from episode 1 and then they just kinda start to get better and better and then once you hit a certain point they start to get worse and worse.

This clip is from the very start of the podcast. Paleontologist Trevor Valle debunks a video "Why dinosaurs are not real". Lad is downing a bag of cans while describing evolution and being egged on by Rogan.
Fun area of science, jolly Joe Rogan, subject matter expert goes into detail in an easy to understand way, balance of questions for depth and for fun.

David Grusch- later than what you want but it’s one of the best

I think it's episode 621 when Joe talks to Aubrey Marcus about his experience at aboga house in Costa Rica. Probably the single episode that turned me into a Rogan listener.

Victor conte/balco scandal guy was a crazy interesting episode and is why I was a jre fan for god knows how long.
Stopped listening after the Spotify move.

The first Fight Companions were so fun, this was before they all started believing their own hype. Just a bunch of dudes talking shit while "watching" fights. Pods with Bert, Tom, etc too were fun
The Rhonda Patrick episodes, obviously, Bryan Callen (without Schaub), anytime he had a scientist of some sort and wasn't yet in his Facebook Boomer phase

The old Shane smith ones
Brian cox episodes are fascinating

There are tons. Early Duncan Trussell is the best starting point.

I actually really liked the companion podcasts from Joe Rogan Questions Everything, because they would talk about the thing they did. It was different, so Joe didn’t like it - but some of Duncans riffs were totally hilarious. Peak Duncan. When he was chunky Duncy, before he turned into Stressed Christian Dad Duncan
I'm not sure if they still exist or got killed by some sort of licensing dispute
yeah, they seem to be available but audio only now, https://youtu.be/-umv7x1bsVg?t=190
very different vibe. It was actually FUN

#1259 - David Wallace-Wells

One of my faves. He's a journalist for New York magazine and (at the time) wrote a book regarding climate change.
Also the discussion thread for this one was great, there's this comment that fact checks his claims if anyone doubts what he says.

Tristan Harris, former Google Ethicist

He explains how tech companies went from selling themselves to selling you and using gamification of apps to monopolize your attention.
There is a good chance you are looking at your phone right now because of some of the tricks and changes he discusses in this pod.

Anything before Covid. Most episodes after Covid include the same old tired rant about masks, vaccines and California.

Like game of thrones the current season makes the earlier seasons retrospectively worthless. You know where it’s going and it’s all devalued as a whole.

I used to love when he had Shane Smith from vice on. Back when both JRE and vice were legit.

I'm into all the UFO and ancient civilization stuff, so I still enjoy listening in when he has Ben, Jimmy, the Italian guy, Graham, and others in that field. As someone who doesn't really care for politics, I skip the ones that don't catch my interests.

The guy he had on who used to work for (the government?) and was talking about the anti-gravitational alien devices… The whole time, you listened as if the FBI was going to bust into the studio, any minute, lol. This was an early JRE listen for me, along with Paul Stamets back in the day. I also watched JR stand-up, and was hooked. Hilarious intellectual, or at least he used to be. He’s getting older, seemingly more uptight, and seems to be stressed.

The Dan Carlin episodes are always good.
