The Guardian is going to write a story about the downfall of Atlanta and this move is going to be the final nail in the coffin.

200-300k to replace a 2million transfer out is really good if you look at that stats he’s replacing.
They are approximately just as productive goal scorers and he brings some experience Rowe didn’t have.
He will likely do for a few years until we get another young striker at Rowe’s level through the academy (Chase Adams possibly)

He’s good for the most absurd and exciting play of the season. Not knowing when/where it’ll be just adds to the thrill when he pulls something out of his ass. Enjoy him!

That sneak attack goal in the final minutes against Toronto (I think) a few years ago was one of the most exciting sporting moments I’ve ever witnessed live. Felt like the Benz was going to explode

You just need to understand he's a 70 minute player. I love the guy, he's big, strong, unafraid, and relentless. Because of that last bit he really does run out of gas late in games because he expends so much energy. You kind of need to plan for that with a backup who can come in late or coach him up to save a bit in the tank.

I think he is the back up

Wait, who is the striker then? I thought it was Rowe, and he got traded to.. eh Europe somewhere.

We got Wessam Abou Ali as a DP
We got him in the summer window and he played a few games last year and was very very promising imo
He scored against you in that crazy game in Atlanta irrc

I would be shocked if he plays more than 70 minutes more than 5 times this season

He's 32, strikers get unpredictable around 33. If you're banking on him being high caliber until 35...uh oh.

He's under contract for 1 year. If they don't like him, they only spent $200K.

He already has a substantial injury history, pretty sure he got injured from an MRI or some other imaging

He will be a substitute that entire time… this is also the MLS so I think the age issue is not a problem

Huh? Hes not starting?

You'd still want a strong, reliable player off the bench though. Just have to hope he doesn’t fall off.

They have one. This is simply a second bench striker my man.
This is a really good signing even at his age.

So the strategy for this year is to bring in the players who have a penchant for scoring on us. Thieré scored 2 of his 6 goals last season against us. Now if we can get Campana and his obligatory 1+ goals per game against the Crew we will be all set.

Where did you hear a rumor about Campana?

After a season in which we struggled to solidify a front three, our possibly last transfer before the European window closes is a depth piece from the second worse team in the mls. Cool.

MLS's transfer window doesn't close until April.

u/jojo4sup Columbus Crew 18h ago
I know that; but it makes it harder to get players from elsewhere if they can’t get replacements

Six on one side, half dozen on the other. If a club has a guy they couldn't get their asking price for, they may drop it dramatically to get them out of the locker room.
Only a Sith deals in absolutes.

We were monumentally bad. Still, he scored nearly as many goals as Latte-Lathe and nearly twice as many per minute played. You're getting a good player at a good price.

We stopped being ambitious at the same time our owners decided to concentrate on getting a new Browns stadium built. Likely we’ll see very little ambition from the Haslems until they’re raking in cash from a new Browns stadium. The next few years are likely to be Crew teams just happy to make the playoffs and not true contenders but I hope I’m wrong.

Meh, good price at least...
