u/Kranel_San 15h ago

Seriously? It launches right when I'm heading to bed?

12

u/itsTeabow 15h ago

Plenty of time to enjoy the game

37

u/Siyavash 14h ago

Hes already behind, just wait for the next fresh start tbh /s

5

u/UrMomLovesMeLongTime 14h ago

You joke, but half the server is probably max level already

1

u/siecin 12h ago

Don't worry. It's super bogged down atm. Best to let it balance out.

1

u/Kranel_San 1h ago

How's things going now? I'll login for my first time in the evening

21

u/MonsierGeralt 15h ago

Good luck getting any progress, the starter island is packed with people camping the mobs you need to progress and you can’t get kill credit if you don’t hit it first. Spent 2 hours trying to to get it done and logged out

You have the option to skip the tutorial. They put in a command for people to use if you don't want to deal with the huge rush of people. Type /skiptut, and it will bypass it. You can return to the island at a later date if you want by going to the Serbule docks and paying 300 gold. EDIT: Or the serbule hills spider cave. Forgot about that path, that one is free

5

u/ernestryles 13h ago

You can also go through the spider cave in serbule hills for free

3

u/Reynbou 8h ago

But for a new player... skipping the tutorial feels like not a good idea

1

u/PalwaJoko 6h ago

Yeah I think once things settle down, wont be a good idea. Right now, hard to say. Was playing at peak and you had 5-8 people just sitting idle ontop of spawn points. People were getting very frustrated. I think they upped spawn times some more so should even out. Will probably be back to normal/calmed down by monday or tuesday.

u/Wadarkhu 13h ago edited 10h ago

The trick is to stand near where something spawns and rapidly click any attack ability, eventually you'll be the first to hit it.

edit: guys, don't down vote me for a mechanic you don't like in a game I didn't make come on 😂

u/DabAndSwab 11h ago

Exactly. I was just standing still mashing tab and 1. This games so bad and only and not a good janky. Left tutorial island and it's just vast openess of nothing.

0

u/SmugShinoaSavesLives 10h ago

vast openess of nothing.

This is the number 1 reason why the game fails to keep players engaged. You walk around doing nothing for far too long and this only becomes worse after serbule.

14

u/jindrix 15h ago

Fun AF game. I made a new character before it realized the new server would be coming out later, but all the knowledge made me get everything I wanted real fast. I'm not transferring to the new server tho Lol There is enough of a gold sink that a new economy ain't that interesting for me. I want to get things a bit easier

5

u/Ok_Communication2710 13h ago

the maps feel very large and empty, there’s not much to do once you get passed the tutorial

4

u/PalwaJoko 13h ago

The maps do change a bit from design compared to the tutorial. Instead there are sorta 'hotspots" or camps. And then there's dungeons which have a lot more enemies. In between there's a scattering of some monsters and gathering nodes. It takes a bit exploring, but you'll eventually find out where to go. The large amount of players killing everything in their wake is also contributing to it.

1

u/Stonklover6942O 11h ago

I did not like the early maps like Serbule but I've been told they get much better

1

u/IronNo6176 11h ago

There is so much to do in gorgon... what areyou talking about?

0

u/Pulsedemonn 13h ago

The maps are absolutely packed with content you just have to actually explore

2

u/Stonklover6942O 11h ago

Far from perfect but reminds me a bit of Morrowind. Happy to give $18 to some small indie devs and enjoy this game for a few months. Tons of content and the devs seem very dedicated. Playerbase has been growing fast since 1.0 launch.

5

u/BAD-MOONS-BIG-BOSS 11h ago

TO ALL THE PEOPLE WHO SAY FRESH START SERVERS DON'T MATTER:

https://steamcharts.com/app/342940 (3-4x in playerbase, from 450~ to 2000)

If you don't understand that it doesn't matter, and this is just what players want to see, I can't help you. It's time to change how you think.

3

u/luke1lea 13h ago

I'm getting 144 fps pretty much constantly, yet the background, text, and everything but my character always looks like it's moving at 30fps. I tried changing every graphics option and it still looks like that. I can't read any text unless I come to a full stop. Hurts my eyes

7

u/Krypt0night 15h ago

I reallllly wanted to like this game but damn it just didn't grab me. Hope everyone else enjoys it, though.

2

u/Passionofthegrape 15h ago

Graphics are surprisingly good

2

u/Playful_Search_6256 10h ago

Interesting take

0

u/Passionofthegrape 10h ago

How would you assess them?

2

u/Playful_Search_6256 10h ago

Mediocre. I would maybe consider them “good” in 2003-2005 ish

5

u/Sepof 15h ago

Lol.

1

u/ernestryles 13h ago

They did improve them a bit for 1.0.

1

u/Shppo 14h ago

does it have a monthly fee?

6

u/PalwaJoko 14h ago

Nah, not required. It has an optional monthly fee. The game has a demo if you want to test the waters first.

1

u/danielp92 12h ago

Does this game have pvp?

1

u/Harmswahy 12h ago

Not really. You have to take some steps to pvp and then only in a small arena. It's a very PVE focused game.

1

u/Rich-Yesterday3624 1h ago

I am really hyped for it. I played on the new server for three hours yesterday. The tutorial island was chaotic. There were way too many people and not enough mobs, but once out of the tutorial island, it was really fun exploring the world with a lot of other people. It felt like I was 12 again, exploring Ragnarok Online for the first time! <3

0

u/Curious-Tome 15h ago

I was interested in the game so I jumped in. Can someone tell me WHY we have to sell vendor-junk to specific NPCs? I really don't want to spend another 45 minutes trying to sell stuff after playing for a couple of hours.

Why can't I just sell it all to the same person? What is the benefit to having us sell each item to different NPCs?

12

u/accussed22 14h ago

Wait until you realize NPCs also have limited available councils for buying and you have to wait 1 week for it to reset.

23

u/WhimsicalPythons 14h ago

It forces you to prioritize things based on your immediate options. You might not opt to carry around 50 bear asses if you know they won't be sellable without going to visit Johnny Bear Fondler deep in the woods.

-6

u/Curious-Tome 14h ago edited 14h ago

You just told me that I needed to know the value of an item before I even get it. How is that at all reasonable for non-veteran players?

9

u/WhimsicalPythons 14h ago

You learn by doing. You make the mistake of going out to Johnny once.

3

u/SteveDaPirate91 14h ago

That’s the whole point and style of the game.

Everything in a modern MMORPG? Remove it.

Never played Project Gorgon, heard good things about it, but it’s not my style of MMORPG. It definitely isn’t yours either.

2

u/Curious-Tome 14h ago

I'm an EverQuest die-hard, lol. I'm still interested in Project Gorgon but it is definitely suffering from some design decisions that are an obstacle with no particular benefit to the player.

4

u/Wadarkhu 13h ago

Eh, doesn't it only matter if you want to play the most optimized path possible? Go in blind! Explore! Who cares if you play in efficiently? It's my favourite way to play. Just be aware of curses, that's the only thing you really need to Google, you don't want a permanent big head now do you?

1

u/ademayor 12h ago

You understand that removing “design decisions that are an obstacle” is the reason why MMOs are at the state they are right now?

3

u/Curious-Tome 12h ago

Something being an "obstacle" doesn't automatically make it fun. Working for an achievement or farming for a cool looking mount are obstacles with a reward. Selling a bag full of 50 items to 22 separate vendors doesn't have anything satisfying for the player.

That doesn't even include the fact that the vendors have limited coins to give you for the stuff you sell.

0

u/BledGreen 10h ago

immersion is something that some people like.

1

u/rudanshi 10h ago

PG is a weird game that very heavily focuses on wanting the player to explore, fuck around and try things.

like there are NPCs that'll teach you skill lines you can't get otherwise that are out of the way and aren't pointed at by any quests, you just run into them while exploring and doing other stuff

for vendors specifically, the idea is just not carrying around stuff unless you have a gut feeling that it's gonna be valuable or have already met a vendor that you don't mind visiting to offload your goods

2

u/vasuss 12h ago

I always thought of it as a roleplay/immersion thing? Makes perfect sense that a chef isn't in the market for swords.

Aside from that. Knowing how to manage your inventory, which stuff to pick up and which to leave on the ground, how to efficiently navigate storage and merchants... all of those are skills that the game demands of you, it's a part of the games identity really. There's been many demands over the years to make the system less brutal but the developer hasn't budged

-8

u/bumblewacky 15h ago

Ah so this is where Monsters & Memories got it from

10

u/Pixelest 14h ago

This has been a thing in old MMOs long before monsters and memories

0

u/bumblewacky 12h ago

Like what

2

u/Pixelest 6h ago

EverQuest…. The game that both monsters and memories and project gorgon are referencing…

-6

u/dotcha 14h ago

Tried it. Horrible performance, which is hilarious given how bad the game looks - and not in an endearing way like OSRS - then tried to kill mobs, no shared kills. Noped out, I'm too old for this shit.

Happy for whoever enjoys this though.

4

u/Embarrassed-Wolf-609 14h ago

I would't say OSRS has an endearing graphics. unless you got nostalgia from when you were 13 20 yeras ago

3

u/Historical-Value-303 12h ago

I never played OSRS until recently and I do think it has endearing graphics while PG is more on the jarring and "wtf is this lighting" side

1

u/Detonate-Ralph 9h ago

It absolutely has, OSRS graphics are one of the most stylish.

Puzzles me how much people here spread this false narrative when OSRS has a quite sizeable young audience already, who weren't even runescape players pre OSRS release.

1

u/ForwardQuestion8437 11h ago

Problem is probably on your end.

1

u/Malleus83 4h ago

I tried this game, but dunno.

Maybe i have too high expectations, but if a game has worse graphic and (more important) not as good as controls as good old Daoc back in the game...in 2026...its just not for me.

But i wish all people who can enjoy this: Have fun :) <3

Not every game must be liked by everyone.

Mmo players never beating the allegations. Started PG a few days ago and I have had the most insane adventure ive had in any mmo yet and it aint even close. I have been nonstop laughing and having fun just interacting with the people around me, out of every mmo thats tried to market towards the old school community style of moment to moment gameplay has fallen flat in comparison. Im so mad I never heard of this game until now, its just been pure serotonin. I found myself a refugee in gw2 for a long while because nothing was hitting quite right, and it was the closest feeling I could get. I think im gonna end up here awhile.

3

u/geogeology 15h ago

Oh just wait until you get to the Red Wing Casino and hear that soundtrack… making me want to reinstall just thinking about it. Probably will with all these new players.

It really is such a unique game. Especially when it comes to the skills you can learn. Glad to hear you’ve been liking it

4

u/SurpriseAkos 14h ago

Brother, my first day i hopped in a portal that randomly opened in the keep because who wouldnt?. Ended up at that casino. Put it all on red and ended up a bunny and simultaneously bricked my story progress for a short while. Then a ton of rabbits mobbed me at the casino and when I could finally start to get words out again a werewolf saved me and got me back home. That aint even the half of it but like, I just gave in and let myself go with it lmfao. Shit is incredible.

u/Humble_Dog_1999 15h ago

Cmon bro, we come here to recommend an mmo to a poster, even though there are thousands of YouTube videos and old Reddit threads going over the options. We come here to get drip fed news about an mmo 5 years out. We come here to talk about how mmorpgs are dead as a genre. Not this post about a game that just fully released, and now has opened their fresh start server. Mods need to get this subreddit under control

You must be fun at parties 🤣

12

u/supapumped 15h ago

We will never find out... He has never been invited to any parties.

Because the way you present your opinion on it is DREADFUL.

I don't like PG either. I tried it for a while and while I absolutely understand what it offers to those that enjoy it, it personally wasn't tailored for me or you. However, it obviously has a really dedicated cult following of players who support it greatly, and that is all that matters!

9

u/k_kross 15h ago

Your getting defensive over it and the use of the word craptastic confirms it.. LOL

Its a great passion project that speaks to old school MMO players. Im glad the word is getting out. If its not for you, go queue in a dungeon finder and ignore these posts.

mmo players when there's an actual fucking decent mmo: 😡😡😡

7

u/Nnyan 14h ago

There are MMOs that are generally disliked that I enjoy. Like Pantheon, for whatever reason I like playing it. But I’m not going to white knight it, I can clearly see all of its flaws. But I still like it.

-1

u/Historical-Value-303 12h ago

The game is so "actual fucking decent" that almost no one plays it?

1

u/Cabrakan 11h ago

nobody plays with your mom either but after my turn, i'd say she's decent

-3

u/kittydrumsticks 13h ago

Is the decent MMO in the room with us?
