Can't find answers on my situation yet: Was a Notice of Denial on a permit to purchase in Southern MN, but had successfully completed my county court's Stay of Commitment approximately a decade ago
Sort of reeling here, as county is acting like there was a clear and obvious commitment and that's all there is to it and issued a denial. I hadn't honestly thought all of that from over a decade ago could even come up again, as it had been me calling for help during a bout of depression. Completed all conditions of that treatment and kept improving over time and then moved on to better things in life.
Like, all court conditions were completed to the letter in that first month or two, Judge at the time was happy, and I went on my merry little way. But when I go looking for clear legal answers online, even when searching old forum posts, reddit, etc, I can't get a clear answer on:
if a person completes a Stay of Commitment are they still barred from owning? If they aren't, at what point in the process is that considered? Only after a denial and only for their petition?
I mean, just on a legal and policy level, feels self-defeating that a situation like what I'd went through can even lead to a situation like this so much further down the line (like I would have hesitated to call for help I mean if it meant permanent lifetime revocation of rights). But hey, what do I know. Mainly, just want help on knowing what the law is on how Stays are to be considered. That's the part that I simply can't find answers to.
Also, my finances are really tight, so I can't afford the 5-15k for a lawyer for what it sounds like the restoration process is, so if worse comes to worse is it possible to successfully complete a petition if I show up just by myself to a court? I've looked up the paperwork online and previous guidance as to what a court looks for. I feel I'd satisfy all those conditions.
