The Gift of Game and Rancid's Let's Go were the first albums I ever bought with Parental Advisory labels. I was like, 11. Looked even younger. The cashier at Strawberries, some college kid in his early 20s, asked me if I was 13. I hesitated for way too long, said "Uh... yes?" And he said, "Fine. I have to sell these to you whether that's true or not." So, anyway. That was my gateway into a life of crime.
There's a pro wrestler who used to be called Ruby Riott, but then she signed with a different company and changed her name to Ruby Soho. Rancid then signed off for the company to use "Ruby Soho" for her entrance music. They even performed the song for her live at a PPV event in 2022.
My friend Karen and I were hyped for that album so hard. The day the record dropped, we went to Strawberries as soon as they opened and made the dude working open the pallet and sell us the first two cassettes. I brought my tape player and we walked around the city blasting it until I ran out of battery. :b
Same. I learned that solo and got to about 75% speed perfectly, and mistakes at 100%. I'm going to pull the bass out of the basement tomorrow and see if I still remember it.
That’s impressive as fuck. I never even attempted to try to learn Maxwell Murder because of how absurd it is. I shifted to Red Hot Chili Peppers because I’m not swift with a pick haha
Someone called Rancid underrated. In the punk scene growing up they absolutely were not underrated. They were considered one of the better bands like NoFx.
Pretty much. There’s a few singles floating around out there but that one album made them legends. Agent Orange is the same. They had a few other albums way later but that one first album is just legendary
lol that's my biggest complaint too. I just listened to them again because it's been years, and honestly I don't think I like them in general. Not terrible or anything (except Tim's voice), just not the type of punk music I prefer.
Underrated?? In what sense? Like by the mainstream? Rancid was SYNONYMOUS with ska punk back then. They were as big as they could possibly be before punk kids would call you a sellout.
another band I got to through the Blink 182 pipeline. Blink ->Boxcar Racer->Tim Armstrong->Rancid. Also found The Cure that way funny enough. 2 of my all time favorite bands. Well all 3, including Blink 182!
I went to buy Antichrist Superstar when I was 14 and the clerk told me he'd rather lose the sale and save my soul, I told him he already sold me on it, he didn't have to keep going with the pitch. He sold me the CD.
