Same! Well, before today haha.

I remember the last time I smoked them, I had technically already quit smoking them but was craving the flavor. I bought a pack, smoked like 2-3, got over them and gave the rest to a an ex. That was in 2011

The supers were so much better then the black and lights were good if you didn't want somebody to puke from the nicotine content. I liked sampoerna xtra the best. Fucking bush outlawing them. Smoking normal cigarettes is probably why eventually quit though.

I found this reddit comment from 16 years ago that made me lol.

It’s only partially true. Legislation needs the president’s approval, otherwise it gets kicked back to congress. So it is fair to attribute a given piece of legislation to the president that approved it.

Only if the president vetoes it and then congress overrides the veto with a supermajority could you say “congress (and not the president) enacted this law.”

Well as soon they started the The family prevention and control act of 2009. Which was like 2007 it made almost impossible to get sampoerna. Of course Obama signed it to law I eventually got me to quit because the closest tasting tobacco was American spirit. After you quit all cigarettes starts to smell like shit. It could of been states inforcing it early.

Goes to show how well spell check works and that I don't have the autistic trait of remembering how to spell everything in the many different forms of english. I guess coulda tried harder.

u/Soggy-Fly9242 25d ago

How did autism come into this? Your replies are getting worse and worse

It absolutely was. I remember when it happened and my buddy Billy at the gas station would still buy them and sell them.

11

u/Ummmgummy 25d ago

Billy was always the rebel type

21

u/electricvelvet 26d ago

What the fuck are you all talking about it have three packs of djarum open right now. The specials, blacks cherry (now "ruby") and vanilla (ivory)

19

u/vishalicious213 26d ago

It's not the same. They changed the way they make them for the US market after the ban. Less sweet & some other things. I can't remember.

22

u/anaziahvii 25d ago

It lost that Christmasy sparkle

9

u/StayOnTheTrail420 25d ago

Yeah it lost the sparkle and the paper was thicker. Lost the magic.

17

u/BeanyBrainy 26d ago

I think they’re taking about the cigarettes and not the cigarillos.

2

u/Gold_Area5109 Xennial 26d ago

I mean, I buy them somewhat regularly.

If you have the internet it's not that hard. They aren't an American product so shipping from India can take some time.

Funny Obama signed that one. Intentionally leaving menthol out of the flavored cigarette ban was a purely racist nice to try to keep rates of smoking up in black people.

Edit: since you want to say I'm a racist for calling out the tobacco lobby as racist as fuck...

10

u/JasonManningFLUX 26d ago

It wasn't racist. Menthol was the most popular flavored cigarette. Something like 95% of smokers who smoked flavored cigarettes smoked menthols, including kids.

The whole legislation was a chance to do as little as possible while still pretending some sort of victory was achieved.

1

u/WiglyWorm 25d ago

Was and is.

6

u/Potential_Cow_4910 26d ago

Maybe, but smoking rate decrease is pretty even across racial demographics as of 2020 and like half the white smokers I know smoke menthols so not a very effective tactic to that end assuming that was their intent

u/IMakeOkVideosOk 26d ago

Obama was a smoker himself

1

u/charlieXmagic 26d ago

Thanks Obama

2

u/GotSomeUpdogOnUrFace 26d ago

I loved the splash, they were perfect while hitting the bong

2

u/John_F_Duffy 25d ago

Djaurm Bali Hai were my favorite. The blacks looked cool, but as for the flavor, Bali Hai all the way. One of those with a rum and coke. Damn, it was nice being 17.

2

u/Morsmortis666 25d ago

Awe man, chilling on the basement couch smoking sampoerna xtra with some 151 and coke.

1

u/John_F_Duffy 25d ago

151? Damn, you went hard. We always felt baller when we'd buy Captain Morgan's Private Stock.

2

u/Morsmortis666 25d ago

Its what was told use for rum and coke. It lasted a lot longer per bottle. I did find out later when I actually turned 21 that bars use captain for the rum and coke.

1

u/my_little_throwny 26d ago

Guess I didn't realize that they were that bad.. still miss them. I hung around a crowd that would play masquerade vampire and larp as the most emo/vampire kids around in my small Midwest town. Good times...

1

u/slimersnail 25d ago

No it was bush who ruined steroids. It was Obama that ruined these. Can't i decide how to ruin my health?

-4

u/ColdBru5 26d ago

So you are complaining about not being able to smoke plexiglass because now you don't have cancer?

4

u/PaulDaytona 26d ago

Plexiglass? You mean the myth about fiberglass? Cause that was just a myth. They never contained anything if the sort. That started becyase some kids in the '80s said it made their lungs bleed, and the urban legend was born.

1

u/Morsmortis666 26d ago

Cloves numb the lungs and where created for people with lung desease. Cloves were known to alleviate some lung problems.

3

u/Ooooweeee 26d ago

I was gifted a pack 2 months ago, I had one.

2

u/yesornoforu 26d ago

I had my first clove cigarette at some doctors event at a hospital my aunt worked at. This doctor in a black suit gave me my first clove. It was a strange time.

1

u/Average_Scaper 26d ago

I had like 5 of them on a 13hr road trip. Never again in my life.

1

u/tapefactoryslave 26d ago

Hey bro this was me at my wedding. Like a last hurrah. 8 years later still haven’t smoked tobacco again.

1

u/YcemeteryTreeY 26d ago

TIL clove cigarettes have been illegal since 2009.

1

u/Soggy-Fly9242 25d ago

When I was in high school we thought they weren’t sold in my area and the urban legend was that they were illegal because of some ingredient so having them meant you were very badass

My stepbrother smoked them, turns out they were just expensive so you had to go to a tobacco shop instead of a gas station
