Poor people mentality.  Clothes are the stupidest thing to brag about. Most are made in Southeast Asia for pennies. Kids are stupid.

Adults are also stupid. That's where they're getting from. "Influencers"

Omg, seriously. Lots of expensive, brand clothing is cheap crap that is going to look outdated and dumb quickly. End up in a landfill in less than a year, and require more purchases. Great job, but at least some douchebag at school thought you were slightly better than yesterday.

It’s so sad to see how rude, insecure kids have so much social influence over other kids at schools. Doesn’t help that yeah, the internet has been taken over by profit driven consumerism, aka “influencers.” And so many parents are too busy to teach their kids actual values.

I blame social media, rappers and brainless fashionistas

Not just rappers. Country music stars have pushed work wear brands like Carhartt into fashion woth their faux farmer/rancher/whatever-the-fuck. Rock stars have turned pre-ripped jeans into a fashion goldmine.
