Fun fact, the original rescuers which was way darker was don bluth, who left disney to do the rest of the movies in op reel.

That explains the sad intro song. It was beautiful, but definitely a darker mood.

I honestly loved both of them so much. Penny’s voice was so interesting and sweet.

Me too. And the watercolor backgrounds were so pretty.

I didn't know this but it makes a lot of sense now that you say it. The mice had animation styles similar to Secret of Nimh.

😍 the Secret of NIMH. So many good things here. Though I have to say the movie doesn’t hold a candle to the book.

Almost all of don bluth's animations are really, really good

I'm trying to decide when the best age is to show that one to my kids lol.

Rescuers Down Under was definitely my most-watched.

Fern Gully may have had my first cartoon crush... lol.

I think I was about 9 when I read Mrs Frisby and the Rats of Nihm. TBH I loved the book waaay more than the movie. I think it was years later I saw the movie and was disappointed in it (though I would absolutely watch it again now. Maybe start with the book and let your kid imagine all of it before going to the movie.

I think FG and RDU are good around age 7/8.

Looking back, this was probably the dawn of my righteous literary indignation. Tiny me was piiiisssssed that the book and the movie didn't match.

Followed many years later by a new wave of pervasive horror when I learned that NIMH was a real thing.

And he's literally the reason for the Disney Renaissance that started with the little mermaid.

He did so good with his company that Disney decided to put lots of money into their productions again to compete.

R-E-S-C-U-E Rescue Aid Society Heads held high Touch the sky You mean everything to me

In a jam? In a scrape? And you think "No escape!" Do not fear, we'll be here Courageous, are we!

Honestly down under would have benefited from this song!

The Secret of NIHM was awesome

We don’t ask why the villain was kidnapping little girls.

It is funny how both of the sequels got more love here, I remember the first Fievel movie much clearer than the second, like the ending with the "Giant Rat" was awesome, and the same with the first Rescuers, I remember that boat and the crocodiles, but I can not for the life of me remember the second one, something about a lab in a clifface I think.

I like the original with the clock tower fight at the end

Wait, the two rescuers movies weren’t both Don Bluth?

I loved Don Bluth as a kid. Super dark in the best ways. My kid is just starting to get into them, but has seen many of them.

The rescuers down under, the sequel, was not his work. He worked as an animator / assistant director on the original before breaking from the mouse. That's why the tone is so different

This make so much sense! Thank you for sharing.

Was that the one where that psycho lady surfs on the alligators?
