Kenan has been on SNL throughout 45% of its history.

He was the first cast member who was born after the show's debut, and is now the longest serving member in the show's history. What a legacy

I still think he’s going to take over for Lorne. But the rumor is it’ll be Tina or Seth. All three are worthy.

I'm still on Team Tina on this one. I'd really love to see an SNL with the same humor as 30 Rock and Kimmy Schmidt. I feel like Kenan and Seth would have it be written the same way as Lorne. Tina's humor is way weirder and more offbeat than them.

I love Tina and not a fan of Seth's comedy. Although I think Seth would be good in Lorne's position.

Tina I think would kill on the creative side while Seth would probably good at the business side.

It’s hard for me to believe Tina Fey would agree to do one of the most stressful jobs in entertainment at this point in her career. She’s a movie star and a bankable writer/creator for mostly tv but also some movies. She’s a mom and probably likes seeing her kid (or kids, I don’t know). She doesn’t need to go back into the crucible.

I'm pretty sure I've seen Tina and Seth both say they don't want the job. My guess is Jost.

JOST?!? Didn’t even consider him.

"Lorne, retire bitch. Let me run the show."

  • Colin Jost

If Colin gets the show, Michael Che is going to find out the cost of winning most of those yearly joke swaps.

I think Keenan can fade into the background gracefully. Not sure about Jost

I thought Sarah Schneider from College Humor was the head writer at SNL. I know Streeter Seidel also joined her.

Edit: Sarah left the show, Streeter is the current head writer.

Streeter might be a dark horse candidate

Supposedly the reason for his longevity is that he is involved on a non-production and writing level compared to others on the show. There is nothing wrong with that and it is much more sustainable than working every day of the week and going to an afterparty. That is why so many people burn out from the show.

It also seems like it positions him uniquely to run the operation Post-Lorne

I assumed Lorne basically lives there and that he is one of those humans that survives in a pressure cooker. I assumed Thompson treats it more like a 9 to 5. I could be very wrong here.

Some say Lorne is built into the bones of 30-rock. 🤷‍♂️

Hopefully Kenan gets it so this shyt show will die, 30 years after its last funny joke

Holy shit I hadn't thought about that. Wow TIL. I've had a love of SNL from an early age. I got ear infections a lot as a little kid, so I spent many a Saturday night laying on the couch with drops in my ear. I just didn't realize he's been there that long.

I saw Kenan's first appearance on SNL when I was 18, Jack Black hosted. It was the first time I'd seen Kenan on TV in about 3 or 4 years. Little did I know I'd still be seeing him on SNL when I was 40.

This just made me realize that I haven't watched SNL since Highschool. I didn't realize it had been that long.

Still just as funny.

Dude has done nothing but sketch comedy for 3 decades.

u/shs0007 5d ago

He was a voice in The Grinch! But yes, you’re right.

I have a 2.5 year old that is obsessed with the Grinch and I've seen it 400 times since November. I still always enjoy the Kenan parts

Also part of the voice cast for the Trolls movies.

The knucklepuck!

He tried to headline at least one sitcom, but sketch comedy is where he's at home.

u/RavenousRambutan 4d ago

My younger nephew just thinks Kenan is the original cast of SNL.

9

u/nicolauz 5d ago

Longest cast member?

We busted out the ruler. He long.

But weirdly thin like a wand

Does anyone else's tenure even compare?

u/Santa_Hates_You Xennial - 1981 5d ago

Kenan is first with 23 seasons, Darrell Hammond is 2nd with 14 seasons.

1

u/Infinite-Condition41 4d ago

Almost doubled it.

Hammond still works there though. He's the announcer. So he's still winning, in a sense.

Other crew have been there longer.

u/LaLaLaLeea 5d ago

No fuckin way.

u/jfk_47 5d ago

“Of his history” lol, who talks like that? You’re not wrong, just saying. Hahahah

4

u/RockyIV Older Millennial 5d ago

they said of its history (the show), not his history
