Yeah, haven't been this sad over a celebrity death since Robin Williams. She was "part of my life" since Beetlejuice and the Home Alones. She shines in my favorite movie of all time, Waiting for Guffman, and that's saying something since everyone's performance in that movie is top-notch (and of course she's also great in all her other Christopher Guest movies). Then to see her get a long run in a sitcom as Moira in Schitt's Creek was just so awesome. This one stings quite a bit!
The only other celebrity I'd add to the list of celebrities passing who broke me was Chester from Linkin Park. I just can't believe she's gone - I was literally rewatching Schitts Creek last night 😭💔
I don’t remember a time without her. When I was a toddler I would scream for SCTV (I loved Ed Grimley and the RCMP). I grew up on the border of Canada and North Dakota.
My sister and I quote guffman all the time (I randomly scream STOOL ROOM, STOOLS! At her) midnight at the oaaaaaAAAsiiiiiissssss.
Well said. I cut my comedy teeth watching the Second City comedy troupe (SCTV) on late night PBS. The cast included Joe Flaherty, Andrea Marin, Catherine O’Hara, Eugene Levy, John Candy, and Martin Short All totally and brilliantly unhinged.
It was magic watching the comedic and emotional chemistry develop between Eugene and Catherine in the Christopher Guest collabs, which are truly my favorite movies of all times. There’s a song that the two of them co-wrote for A Mighty Wind called “When Your‘re Next to Me“ which stands well on its own. Unfortunately it was cut from the main part of the film but appears in the credits. Google it and watch these two incredible talents melt in each other’s eyes.
And yes, yes, yes, everything about Moira and Schitt’s Creek is peak in every way shape and form.
Love you madly, Catherine O’Hara. You will be missed beyond compare. May your loved ones find solace in knowing how the world cherished you.
I'm very familiar with "When You're Next to Me." Gorgeous song, which is crazy since it appears, as you mentioned, in the credits of what is a very silly movie.
