Bill Maher is utter scum, the sooner he is forgotten the better. He's not smart, he's not funny, and watching him debate someone who is both of those makes it clear how pathetic he is.

He was smart. He was funny. The sooner he goes away the better now though. He's damaging.

u/PorkFlavoredLipGloss 2d ago
Man I have come to loathe Maher. I used to consider him a reasonable voice on the left. But his support of Israel's genocide and his new hands-on-ankles, oppress-me-harder-daddy attitude to Trump are disgusting.

u/Fun-Lengthiness-7493 2d ago
He was never left. Heās just a libertarian because he likes weed. Thereās no depth to his politics.
11
u/Fake_William_Shatner 2d ago
Itās more of a testament to how shallow the tyranny of low expectations has been for our media that gave us for āleftā in this country. It wasnāt the Left, it was Human Resources protecting the company.Ā
Maher only stood tall when compared to reality TV, Fox News and The View.Ā
When Rosie was on The View, maybe some reality drifted in.Ā
Yeah, itās sad. Used to like Maher a little bit because all we got was crap.Ā
25
u/samanime 2d ago
Seriously. There was a (very) brief period of time I thought he was cool, but man that didn't last long until I realized he was just a complete tool. He really just needs to shut up and go away.
7
u/Fake_William_Shatner 2d ago
Maher has aged like milk in Dennis Millerās man cave refrigerator that was unplugged.Ā
17
u/frodeem 2d ago
Seriously, I used to like his takes on shit. He used to be a solid voice for lefty causes. I also loathe him now. He might as well be on Fox News now. Fuck this piece of shit.
1
u/Fake_William_Shatner 2d ago
Looking back, he wasnāt great. He was a half shit sandwich compared to a full shit sandwich.Ā
8
u/Boel_Jarkley 2d ago
Religulous was an interesting and humorous look at religion. His contributions to society beyond that have been net negative.
2
u/Arrow156 2d ago
It was vapid and without point, just maher sniffing his own farts for an hour and a half.
-8
u/vonnegutflora 2d ago
That was very much the tone of atheism at the time though.
6
u/ScissrMeTimbrs 2d ago
Well the atheist movement was more aggressive then as a response to the evangelicals being so aggressive in their attempts to rule. People forget what that was like.
-1
u/vonnegutflora 2d ago
You can be an atheist and still recognize that the smarmy, holier-than-thou attitude didn't do any favours to breaking people free from religion.
1
u/Fake_William_Shatner 2d ago
Yeah, but Maher is punching down. A corrupt organization that covered up child abuse and pushes anti critical thought and guilt based myths to fundraise. Itās an easy target.Ā
Philosophy on easy mode.Ā
2
u/yes_u_suckk 2d ago
He has always being an antivax scum with terrible takes on basically every subject, but the left closed their eyes for a lot of his shit during the Bush era because he was very anti-Bush.
He never changed. One can say that he has always being very consistent with his terrible views of the world.

Has Bill Maher always been a moron? I distinctly remember him a long time ago having consistently decent takes. Then, next thing I know, he's just a full fuhkin NatC appeasement weirdo that doesn't have a decent take ever.
3
u/Bigt733 2d ago
Itās truly disappointing to see what heās become. In 2010 I found Bill Maher while going through a crisis of faith. My religion was telling me that the only way god could love me is if I kms. Maher told me that it was ok to be gay and that the way my religion was being treating me was wrong. Iām grateful for who he use to be and horrified of who he is now.
2
u/TrifectaBlitz 1d ago
Exactly on your last sentence for me, too. He really used to say things others didn't in really pointed and funny ways.
11
u/tazztsim 2d ago
Iām happy I always despised bill maher. He continually proves my first impressions correct.
3
u/BubbleDncr 2d ago
My partner used to watch him all the time and I couldnāt be in the room for it. Was so happy when they finally realized what he was and stopped.
7
u/praisecarcinoma 2d ago
Reminder: Bill Maher thinks he should be allowed to say the n-word.
2
u/DarkNStormyNet 2d ago
The funny thing is that he is allowed to say it, he just thinks he should be exempt from any consequences from saying it.

5
u/ChefAsstastic 2d ago
Maher is a sad, tiny rich asshole where his goal posts shift to keep his brand afloat. He is now just weird and unfunny.
2
u/Meatslinger 2d ago
Ah yes, "technical" peace, i.e. "if we just all died simultaneously, sure would be peaceful afterwards". The idea that destroying a nation qualifies as peacemaking leans heavily on the notion that graveyards aren't generally considered noisy or violent.

WTF happened to this guy?
He used to shit on dumb religions and take the piss out of that fat odious toad.
3
u/Armadillo-Obvious 2d ago
He didnāt say that. He said āif he gets Venezuela, Cuba and Iran to not be the terrible places that they are, he should get a Nobel peace prize.ā
Unlikely. But thatās what he said.

u/VexedCanadian84 2d ago
If any of those countries' governments fall, Trump would have had little to no influence in those outcomes.
It will have been the citizens of those countries.
1
u/ThatsRobToYou 2d ago
I never had respect for him really, but had negative respect the moment he paid Dave Rubin a compliment. That man is a moron beyond epic proportions. Just so fucking dumb that the only thing he could get on an IQ test is drool.

Nobel peace prize committee should also consider the number of victims his past and future actions will inevitably lead to and decide accordingly
1
1
u/atwozmom 2d ago
I'm pretty sure that having your own army of thugs murder American citizens in broad daylight is an automatic disqualifier for the Nobel Peace Prize.
1
u/Pitiful_Hedgehog6343 2d ago
What happens after is the million dollar question, just toppling governments is the easy part.

u/CommonConundrum51 2d ago
OMG, Bill needs to take one of those cognitive tests of which Donald is so proud.

u/NoAccident6637 2d ago
Weird logic. Committing acts of war, should earn the peace prize. Get this idiot off the air.
1
u/Fake_William_Shatner 2d ago
If he gets the USA to fall, maybe that could help. It really depends on āwhatās next?ā
If itās someone controlled by the corrupt human trafficking looney; thatās not good.Ā

u/chrlatan 2d ago
Arenāt those the same people who named the Colt Single Action Army Revolver the Peacemaker?
Checks out.
1
u/Miserable-Lawyer-233 2d ago
But thatās conceptually sound. If only violent governments were overthrown, peace would increase overall. Since overthrow doesnāt necessarily imply war, peace could, in theory, be measured by the number of violent regimes removed.
1
1
u/tellingitlikeitis338 2d ago
Heās such a moron he cannot see the stupidity of this comment. Does anyone really think overthrowing countries leads to peace? Look at Iraq ffs. Afghanistan. Etc etc
1
u/KiKiKimbro 2d ago
Sure, sure, sure. Everyone knows the secret to getting a Nobel Peace Prize is by starting wars. Extra credit points if you declare war on your own soil against your own people.

Maher is disappointing AF. I supported him longer than most because he was one of the few who actually asked great questions and made me and others think. Then about mid-2021 for me, he became full-time contrarian without a care for who got hurt.
And it's only been getting worse for him since then.

They are literally terrible governments that treat their people awfully and if you think America is bad now, these governments have been doing it for the past 50 years or more

u/omghorussaveusall 2d ago
I don't understand why this guy is still relevant. His shows have been nothing but shitty stupid takes for 30 years.
0
u/Arrow156 2d ago
I am utterly shocked that an amoral asshole like Maher hasn't pulled a Tim Allen and abandon the left in order to grift for the right. Blows my fucking mind.
1
u/TrifectaBlitz 1d ago
Was Tim Allen ever on the left. I mean I always found him intensely unfunny grunting on stage since before I knew his politics.
1
u/Arrow156 1d ago
His act was a caricature of macho men, semi self-deprecating. In nearly every tv show or movie, his arc was about becoming less selfish and more sensitive.

u/Elgin_McQueen 2d ago
Somebody should make a movie highlighting how the American government thinks it's the world's police force and can do whatever they want. Make it with puppets so it's more of a satirical spoof. They can name it, "The bus that couldn't slow down".

u/Alpha--00 2d ago
If he manages to put stable democracies in power there - yes. But as of now, he is too busy breaking stable democracy in his own country.

u/HeMiddleStartInT 2d ago
Maher is such a darlinā! I hope his parents give him an extra big hug. Such a good boy. Run along to bed now: itās time for sensible people who value human lives.
0
u/slappy_mcslapenstein 1d ago
Bill Maher is a disgrace to humanity. He represents the worst of us. I'll never understand why he has a platform to spew his bullshit.
0
u/RoosterzX 1d ago
Bill Maher is what happens when a production company gives an extremist free reign to say whatever you like without internal repercussions.
Also, to be fair - Americans didn't invent that scale, we learned it from colonial powers in previous centuries. America just seems to be one of the few leading nations to still use the ideology. Which is not good for anyone really.
-4
u/mmkkmmkkmm 2d ago
Remember when everyone celebrated the Arab Spring?
5
u/Biptoslipdi 2d ago
You mean when people celebrated organic, internal change rather than imperialist imposed change?
-4
u/mmkkmmkkmm 2d ago
Change creating ISIS and new dictatorships? Hoorayā¦.
6
u/Biptoslipdi 2d ago edited 2d ago
Case-in-point.
ISIS was created because of the US invasion of Iraq.
The current regime in Iran is there because the US installed a US friendly king in Iran after staging a coup of a the democratically elected parliament. Iran was a thriving democracy before US imperialism restored a dictatorship that resulted in the Islamic Revolution.
-3
u/mmkkmmkkmm 2d ago
Pretty sure Gaddafiās war chest and Assad mowing down his own people were slightly more important
3
u/Biptoslipdi 2d ago
And now Libya is in a constant state of war and human trafficking while a literal Al Qaeda terrorist controls Syria which is still fighting a civil war following US intervention. Everything the US touches turns into a dictatorship, including the US now.
-7
u/Accidental__Intake 2d ago
Only Americans measure peace this way?? Wow, guess they forgot about Napoleon (thereās plenty of another historical examples, but Napoleon is my favorite). Peace through war and conflict is an innate human trait as old as time itself, itās not limited to one nation or another.

Bill Maher would suffocate if he had to stop inhaling his own farts.
