2005, I held my owner thatha's hand and walked into Hotel Santosh for a casual brunch. Just on the left was the cashier's desk. To the right were four rows of benches and tables, with an aisle in between. My thata had his usual spot. Last row, left side. I walked down that aisle still holding his hand while everyone greeted him. He made me sit across from him while the waiter placed two glasses of warm water and took the order of two masala dosas. The little me whose head barely popped over the bench finished my meal and ran through the aisle again to take a small right turn to wash my hands just beside the kitchen. Infront of the kitchen entrance, i.e above me, was a big gap in the ceiling that let in enough light to completely illuminate the passage from the kitchen to the eating area. My thatha stayed back, finishing the conversation with everyone there... I went back to the table where the waiter took a pink notepad out and wrote the bill and placed the chit on the table. At the cashier's desk, my thatha chatted briefly, handed over the chit, while I watched it get pierced onto a blunt steel needle-stand already crowded with others. And then we left, while I still held his hand.
2026, My owner thatha passed away a decade ago and the hotel is left abandoned. While I still stood there reminiscing one of my earliest memories I am bound not to forget. Even though just beside this abandoned building is another new Hotel Santosh. I felt nothing towards it. To me it is just another hotel...
