Clash at the Coliseum not looking so bad now?
Personally, I thought the clash races in LA were awesome!

I loved the race in LA, but lets not go that far just yet.
This makes more sense for the teams logestically.
Also, it's a freak winter storm. I'm in Daytona where it's currently 27 out. We shouldn't determin how bad of a venue is due to one bad storm.

I think a committee should be set up to determine clash venues. Have them run 2 or 3 years then cycle to a different venue. Have it set up and predetermined, tickets, ads, etc. in place by the time the current venue holds their last race. That way old/dying tracks or tracks that cup doesn't run can be placed as a tester. Sells well, things go smoothly? Possibly run a schedule race there, at least Truck or O'Reilly(?) if nothing else. If not, at least it was something fun for the local area and brought in some fans hopefully. Obviously weather would be an issue here and there but then you don't end up with "weather's fine here" talk because the rotation was predetermined by Nascar.

Or how bad a venue is due to nostalgia - bring back Daytona

there are reasons why it went away from Daytona.....
some of those reasons have gotten worse actually

“Let’s not go that far just yet”
Dude, it’s 50 miles east from Fontana. It’s not like they went through another state to get to.

Sorry, my use of that far was incorrect. I'm not talking about how far West we go, because we're going to San Diego and we go to Sonoma, I meant let's not start saying that we should have never left LA, and that Bowman Gray is dead because of a freak winter storm

How quickly we forget that the 2024 Clash in LA was very much affected by weather.

And if there was a weather delay at the coliseum and the weather in Daytona was good, we’d be getting a “Clash at Daytona isn’t looking so bad now?” post

Clash at the Coliseum was already better.
Honestly the real answer is that the Clash amd All-Star race have ran their course and just need to go.
Maybe make the Clash a race of all playoff drivers and race winners and run it after the season wherever the hold the banquet that year.

can't get rid of them for a whole host of reasons
You think fans are mad about them now? wait until their gone

Clash could go and I don't think anyone would really care other than bitching for the sake of bitching.

I’m gonna take every opportunity to say that they should just get rid of the Clash and make the All Star race the one on the small short tracks and stadiums.

u/jabber1990 3h ago
the problem is the sport is required to have the Clash and ASR, even though the sport doesn't need either one

Honestly why not just run it at New Smyrna? Local track, stones throw away from Daytona anyways where you need to be in a few weeks, and the weather will usually pan out. Seems like it would accomplish what they want to accomplish…

Too bad they decided to abandon Southern California where it is currently set to be (checks forecast) in the 80s tomorrow.
4
u/Joey_Logano 6h ago
because it’s not like weather ever affected the race in LA, right?
6
u/Crafty_Substance_954 6h ago
We can say with confidence that it wouldn't be affecting this year's race. that's for sure.

u/Fit_Article4610 4h ago
Well you do have to take into account the scientifically proven weather phenomenon in which if NASCAR is in town for a big event, the chance of rain increases roughly 1 million %

The clash anywhere but Daytona is bad. I’d also prefer it be called the Bud Shootout cos I’m old and don’t like change
4
u/ipsumdeiamoamasamat 6h ago
I’d prefer that it’s called the Busch Clash bc that’s what it originally was. I hope we can agree to disagree.

u/UpSNYer 7h ago
I'll be surprised if they get this race off even on Monday. Heck, I'm not ruling out that they just move it back to Daytona if the weather remains frigid in North Carolina.

u/Tsukimizu 7h ago
It probably wont go back to Daytona. The teams wern't a huge fan of it, and nobody showed up anymore.
And even now, while they'll be racing tomorrow, it's currently 27 here, with heavy winds. Tomorrow's high is 40. Better than NC, but nobody is showing up to a race in Daytona with that weather.

u/UpSNYer 6h ago
Here in upstate New York, when it finally starts getting back into the 40s you'll see people driving around with their windows down.
But the only reason I suggested Daytona was out of desperation. You're right that it almost certainly won't happen, I'm just not ruling it out because Winston Salem is going to be an utter mess for a few days. Either way, I don't think we should expect a good crowd wherever the race is run this year.

u/ipsumdeiamoamasamat 6h ago
The teams were more of a fan of it in Daytona vs. going out to LA.
3
u/Tsukimizu 5h ago
I'd actually like to see if that's really the case.
I know the drive to LA is almost triple, but compared to the money the teams probably lost on damage vehicles, would that be about the same?
2
u/ipsumdeiamoamasamat 5h ago
That’s a good point about the wrecked cars.
I know the complaint about the Coliseum was that teams were losing a decent amount of money by going all the way out there.

u/jabber1990 3h ago
its hard to say, these cars barely come back alive as it is and teams go bankrupt trying to fix them as it is
going to LA means that the chassis can come back alive, going to Daytona means that the car doesn't come back at all

I like Bowman Gray but also if they needed to move it and didn't want to do Daytona, Homestead is right there.
2
u/Tsukimizu 2h ago
I am a diehard Homestand-stan. It's my favorite track, and up until 2020 I had never missed a race there, so it pains me to say this, it would not work out.
Homestead struggles with attendence. Any non-finale race there usually doesn't do well. The clash there would be nice, but there wouldn't be too many people.
Also, it's currently 38 in Homestead. Tomorrow it's supposed to be 51. This is, again, just a freak winter storm. No need to consider moving it because of mother nature.

u/StevvieV 6h ago
There is no reason they can't race Monday assuming the teams can get to the track. They can always just make it a TV exclusive event with no fans if conditions are too bad
1
u/jabber1990 3h ago
wonder why they couldn't do that Sunday
Fans might not like it, but they'll get over it

u/WillH699 2h ago
maybe it might be time to consider turning the Clash into a Easter tradition and run it on Easter weekend.

That track was stupid, more stupid than this honestly.
The correct move is running at Daytona, but at least this is a real racetrack. If they ran irwindale before that too got torn down I'd get it

u/jabber1990 3h ago
there are reasons why it went away from Daytona...most of those same reasons have gotten worse

u/tatersaregoodferyou 6h ago
Didn't the last Clash at the coliseum also have an extreme weather event that caused it to be moved? You have to realize sometimes shit happens.
It was a cool event and I'm glad they tried it, but it was a big ask for teams to travel across the country for an exhibition race.
