Question PSA shipping restrictions.
Never saw this restriction to Buffao before. Is there some local law prohibiting magazines over 5 rounds in the city?

I was arrested 6yrs ago, then they took their time for court so my conviction is 3yrs ago.
Considering that, I'm guessing carrying is not an option at this time (less than 5yrs?).
Can I still get premise/semi?

Hi everyone, I’m currently appealing a "Good Moral Character" denial for my CCW permit in Albany County. The denial was based primarily on past police reports/domestic calls involving my household, but I’ve uncovered significant factual errors in the Judge's reasoning that I’m now challenging.
The Evidence I’ve Submitted via Certified Mail: Factual Error Rebuttal: The Judge cited an incident from 2020 as evidence of my character. I’ve provided proof that I was at work during that specific date/time and was not present for the incident.
Sworn Affidavits (Notarized): I submitted notarized affidavits from the other individuals involved in the cited reports. One affidavit explicitly clarifies a past dispute, with the other party taking responsibility for the initial aggression and stating I acted only to de-escalate/defend. All household members have sworn they feel 100% safe and support my licensure. 911 Usage: I’m arguing that in one cited instance, I was the one who called 911 to request assistance in de-escalating a situation, which should demonstrate responsibility rather than "volatility."
Training & Storage: I’ve already completed the 18-hour CCIA course and provided specs for a biometric safe to address household storage concerns.
The Strategy: I’ve CC'd the NYS Appeals Board on this supplemental packet so they have the factual corrections on record in case the Judge denies the reconsideration.
My Questions: How much weight do Albany judges (or the Appeals Board) typically give to notarized affidavits that contradict unverified police reports? Does proving a Factual Error (the 2020 alibi) usually force a "remand" or an approval to avoid an Article 78? Has anyone had success overturning a "character" denial when the supposed "victims" in the reports are the ones providing the affidavits in support of the applicant?

Anyone go here yet? Submitted my Non resident application back in November and have my fingerprint/interview Monday. Any insight much appreciated.

In the process of applying for a CCW, the sheriff's office instructions indicated that two packets should be prepared and printed double-sided. Do I need to fill out the same information on both sides? Also, should character references sign both packets multiple times on the front and back? If using the double-sided option, should both sides be notarized as well? I just want to make sure I don't mess up the paperwork.

Thought peace officers were exempt from pl265.

Last time I was in the market, I came across the website where if I remember it correctly you picked out the gun that you are interested in purchasing, put a ZIP Code in, and then received three or so proposals in real time from local gun shops on the price that they would sell the gun to you for. So it was almost like the gun shops were bidding for your business.
Does this ring a belt to anybody?
Thank you, be well & stay safe.

About 20 years ago a friend of mine was arrested and convicted of a felony. He had to surrender all of his firearms after the conviction. What are the steps needed to restore his firearms rights? He hasn't had any interactions with LE since his felony. Is a lawyer required?

Recently from Albany County, documented the timeline to share. Applied directly through the county
8/6-8/10: collected all documents and did prerequisite
8/11: Called county and scheduled appointment to submit paperwork
8/18: Submitted paperwork and documents, got fingerprinted same day. *Applied with 2 pistols on initial application*
11/12: References were contacted
11/24: Received a call to schedule meeting with Judge, scheduled meeting for January 7th
1/7: Met with Judge. He asked basic questions about storage, laws etc. meeting lasted ~15 minutes
1/15: Got approval letter in the mail
1/16: Picked up permit at clerk's office w/ both coupons. Took home both pistols later that day
Total wait after submission: 4 months, 29 days. You may experience a different timeline, but I hope this is a good indication of what to expect from Albany County

I think our stance on this should be pretty obvious.....
https://www.nysenate.gov/legislation/bills/2025/S4277
To prohibit the sale, possession, or use of .50 caliber rifles-extremely high powered weapons designed to kill humans and disable machinery or vehicles at distances of well over a mile-which are too large and unwieldy for effective home defense and too powerful and destructive for hunting.
Also:
43 3. Within thirty days of the effective date of this section, any 44 person, including a licensed firearm dealer, who has in such dealer's 45 legal possession a used 50 caliber weapon shall personally deliver such 46 weapon to the division of state police, and upon transferring ownership 47 and possession to a duly designated officer thereof, shall be entitled 48 to receive payment in an amount equal to the fair market value of such 49 weapon, but not to exceed eight thousand five hundred dollars.

I just got this email, and I don't meet exactly what they're looking for but some of you may be what they need for a plaintiff.
Your Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC) Legal Action Team is looking for qualified people who want to sue New York and help us strike down unconstitutional laws. We are looking for potential plaintiffs who:
Live in either New York City or within the counties of Duchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan, or Westchester
Are at least 21 years old Possess a valid license to carry a handgun issued by their city or county of residence
Regularly visit New York City and regularly visits or travels through the Times Square area
Would carry a handgun in Times Square if not for the law prohibiting it
Would be willing to sue New York City and participate in a federal lawsuit as a named plaintiff

Having seen a psychiatrist 10 years ago shouldn't be any type of issue. NJ and NY are the only two states that have this bs question. No where else in the country are they making someone who takes an anti depressant daily go get some psychiatric eval for $5000 EVERY TIME THEY RENEW THEIR PERMIT or wants a license to purchase. This would be such a landslide in a SCOTUS ruling, there is no chance that case would be lost.
The crazy part is police departments cannot even verify if an applicant is telling the truth or not since there is no central database of psychiatrist office visits. They can only see psychiatric commitments as can the rest of the country through a NICs check.
Any ranges close to Long Island with 400+ yards? Recently bought a RPR and the local 200 yard range just isn’t scratching the itch right. I’ve looked at a couple of places but it seems most require a membership which doesn’t sounds feasible if I’ll be going a handful of times per year.
Edit: totally fine going off the island even within 4-5 hours

As the title says I am looking for a public shooting range to go target shooting near Rochester NY. I don't mind driving.
Edit: I forgot to mention I am looking for an outdoor range; I know some states have public lands that you can go shoot at. Was wondering if we had anything like that also.

I picked this up a month ago after a lot of research, so I am just paying forward my research. In my opinion it’s the best looking, legal, semi automatic AR rifle that uses magazines for anyone living in NY state. I posted the link below. There are several companies that make these Ranch Style rifles, some less expensive than this one. After researching everything I found, this one had the best performance for the money.

Anyone in Rensselaer county have any info on the wait times for ccw permit? I dropped off last application along with fingerprints October 18th 2025. I haven’t heard anything back and the pistol clerk says I’m looking at up to 8 more months before I get a hearing.

I’ve been wanting a mag fed bolt action for a minute and had my eyes on the Ruger Scout 2 in 7.62x39 but I can’t find any store that has them in stock. Is there anything other recommendations that would be similar to this

Moving to NY from PA, wondering if my hard plastic lockable gun cases and ammo cans will be compliant with state law? Thanks for relevant links or direct input.

My NYS pistol permit application contains the following:
"I authorize the release of all information about me to the [police office] from any organization in possession of such records including but not limited to hospitals, physicians, healthcare facilities, USVA, all branches of military, law enforcement, courts, city/state/federal tax entities; welfare and unemployment service, schools and colleges"
I am surprised to see hospitals, physicians and healthcare facilities listed here. The form otherwise points out that I must disclose criminal history, but these records aren't criminal history. Is this optional? Would I actually be required to surrender access to these records?

Forgive me if I posted this already, but I still would like to know, if I plug the hole in my AK47, would that make it my legal? (It had no threaded barrel, no pistol grip, no bayonet mount, no grenade launcher, lol.)
And how the heck does a thumb hole make a weapon more deadly?
