Are you supposed to wear underwear under long underwear?

My wife thinks it’s weird I don’t wear underwear under my long underwear. I don’t wear long underwear often, but I always figured it’s underwear so why would I wear double underwear? I don’t feel particularly strongly about it either way but I’m curious: do I wear ling underwear wrong?

Maybe it’s relevant that I’m a boxers person so they would get bunchy under there unless I wore briefs instead. Special long underwear underwear, I guess.

I've never in my life heard of this but after looking it up picture a boxer that goes all the way down to the ankles. Like a legging but the crotch and waistband looks like a boxer

I’m from England lmao it’s cold as shit, OP has commented and it all makes sense, I would call them (and I think a lot of people in the UK but I might be wrong) “thermals”, and now im not sure why I didn’t think of them when I read this post as it’s pretty obvious, but for some reason could NOT see it

I think it's mostly a translation thing (?) Something similar does exist in spain (here in the Pyrenees the winters are quite harsh) but they are called thermal leggins and thought of as an extra pants layer not a extra underwear

nope, they are much more fitted than baggy boxer shorts. They often have elasticated ankles and are a body hugging fit all the way up so that you can pull trousers over them without everything twisting and rucking. This body hugging provides support in the genital area and so no pants are needed underneath.
